2020 Elections

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

How the Republican Convention Created Money Woes in Two Cities

The headline is somewhat misleading.

Charlotte misses out on visitor spending, but benefited from money already spent there.
Jacksonville is screwed.
The RNC is really screwed.
The DNC is coping well.
Gotta love how donations are lacking for Jacksonville. Probably for multiple reasons.

Lindsey Graham's Democratic opponent shatters record with nearly $14m in recent fundraising

Jaime Harrison (D) has been running bunches of ads on Upstate TV for at least a couple of months. He and donors must think that he has a real shot. Lindsey has only just now started responding with his own (scary) "liberal Democrat" ads.

Trump’s Florida Convention Could Be The First That Actually Helps Lose A State

When President Donald Trump moved his Republican nominating convention to Florida after yanking it from North Carolina last month, the extra hassle and cost at least carried the benefit of shoring up his support in the country’s highest-value swing state.

Four weeks later, with coronavirus cases flaring across the state, the move may instead make it that much harder for Trump to win Florida’s 29 electoral votes ― votes that, if he loses them, would almost certainly guarantee his loss nationally.

“If they move forward with that convention, with the numbers the way they are, people are just going to think they’re crazy,” said Kim Nymeyer, president of the North Pinellas County Democratic Club, adding that Trump’s insistence on holding an in-person coronation amid a pandemic gives her side yet another argument. “I do think Trump is taking the rope and hanging himself without any help from us.” ...

DeSantis Is Said to Quietly Hinder Fundraising for Trump Convention

When President Donald Trump first threatened to pull the Republican National Convention out of Charlotte, North Carolina, Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida started campaigning to bring the event to his state.

But now, as convention planners in Jacksonville, Florida, seek to raise tens of millions of dollars on an almost impossibly rushed time frame, and in the middle of a raging pandemic, the governor is hindering those efforts, interviews show.
Has DeSantis had an epiphany where he's finally putting the interests of Floridians' lives and health first?

Nope:
DeSantis, a Republican, has directed his top fundraiser, Heather Barker, to tell donors not to give to the convention because of a personal dispute between the governor and Susie Wiles, his former campaign manager who is serving as an informal adviser to the convention planners, according to multiple people familiar with his actions....
He's just being a petty little brat.

It's truly incredible that 40ish percent of the people still approve of him. No wonder the US is so mucked up.

It's deplorable.

If He Loses, Trump Must Resign Immediately and Make Biden President. No, Really.

... With the pandemic still afoot and the economy a mess, there would be no time to waste at this critical juncture. But since the line of succession is different today, how could President-Elect Biden become President Biden before Jan. 20?

Here’s how. Under the 25th Amendment, ratified and passed in 1967, a president can appoint a vice president in the event of a vacancy in the office, with the consent of the House and the Senate by simple majorities in each chamber. In this case, Trump would ask Pence to resign, appoint Biden as his VP, and then resign himself, allowing Biden to succeed to the presidency.

A final hurdle would be the Republican-controlled Senate, which has been Trump’s lapdog under Mitch McConnell. But clearly if Trump actually did his duty and resigned, it seems improbable that the Senate would stand in the way.

Of course, it is impossible to conceive of Donald Trump resigning, even with a widening crisis unfolding all around him. Then again, Richard Nixon was no quitter, as he acknowledged when he resigned. So who knows? Trump likes to sulk and feel sorry for himself—so he could say “to heck with you” if he is humiliated at the polls....
Not very likely, but great prediction if it does happen. A slight modification would be that PINO just resigns, then VP Q-tip says, "Screw this lame duck BS," appoints Biden as his VP and then resigns.

Dog walk thought.

Does anyone find it deliciously ironic that if Cheetohead had listened to science his political future would be a lot brighter?

He certainly won't take responsibility for that but its really all on him.
