Impeachment

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Yep, another leftist long drawn out failure.
Washington — Republican Senator Lindsey Graham introduced a resolution co-sponsored by more than three dozen of his colleagues, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, condemning the House for a lack of transparency in the impeachment inquiry.

"Every American should be disturbed by what is taking place in the House of Representatives regarding the attempt to impeach President Trump," Graham said in a release. He told reporters in a press conference that the resolution is a "strong signal to our House colleagues" that "they're off-script."

The measure calls on Democrats in the House to hold a formal vote to initiate an impeachment inquiry, allow the president to call witnesses in his defense and give Republicans in the House minority the ability to issue subpoenas. Graham's office said the resolution had 44 Republican co-sponsors as of Thursday afternoon.

"It is imperative the President be able to confront his accuser, call witnesses on his behalf, and have a basic understanding of the accusations against him that would form any basis for impeachment," Graham said in his statement. "We cannot have a country where every American has rights except Donald Trump. I find the current process illegitimate and dangerous to the future of the presidency."

McConnell said in a statement that "House Democrats are even denying their own Republican colleagues basic procedural rights that the minority party was granted throughout previous impeachments."

Speaking to reporters on Capitol Hill, Graham accused Democrats of "selectively leaking information" from the closed depositions to reporters. He also accused reporters of being unfair towards Republicans, saying that if Republicans were leaking information about an investigation regarding a Democrat, they would be criticized by the press.

"What I am saying is there is a right way to do it, and a wrong way to do it, and this is a dangerous way to do it," Graham said.

Just in case there aren't enough complexities for y'all:
Could Trump Serve a Second Term if Ousted? It's Up to the Senate

... Like so much of the coming impeachment showdown, that decision rests entirely with the Senate. The Constitution famously grants senators the sole power to convict and remove a president — something that has never been done. What is seldom discussed is a more obscure clause of the Constitution that allows the Senate discretion to take a second, even more punitive step, to disqualify the person it convicts from holding “any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States.”

Imposing that penalty would effectively bar the president from reclaiming his old job. In an added twist, tacking on the extra punishment requires only a majority vote in the Senate, not the two-thirds — or 67 senators — required to convict....

I doubt we have to worry about Trump getting elected to another office if he's removed.

You're probably correct, but I think the specific concern is that he continues his 2020 campaign and wins. The x-factor, as always, is the Dem propensity for committing political suicide.

LBJ would have served 2 full and 1 partial had he been elected. Are there limits to the length of the partial?

Good question.
Twenty-second Amendment to the United States Constitution

Text

Section 1. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once....
45SHOLE would be limited to just a 2nd election, presumably in 2020.
VP Q-tip could get elected twice since 45SHOLE has already served more than 2 years.

Nunes Aide Is Leaking the Ukraine Whistleblower’s Name, Sources Say

A top aide to Rep. Devin Nunes has been providing conservative politicians and journalists with information—and misinformation—about the anonymous whistleblower who triggered the biggest crisis of Donald Trump’s presidency, two knowledgeable sources tell The Daily Beast.

Derek Harvey, who works for Nunes, the ranking Republican on the House intelligence committee, has provided notes for House Republicans identifying the whistleblower’s name ahead of the high-profile depositions of Trump administration appointees and civil servants in the impeachment inquiry. The purpose of the notes, one source said, is to get the whistleblower’s name into the record of the proceedings, which committee chairman Adam Schiff has pledged to eventually release. In other words: it’s an attempt to out the anonymous official who helped trigger the impeachment inquiry.

On Saturday, The Washington Post reported that GOP lawmakers and staffers have “repeatedly” used a name purporting to be the whistleblower during the depositions. The paper named Harvey as driving lines of questioning Democrats saw as attempting to determine the political loyalties of witnesses before the inquiry. A former official told the Post that Harvey “was passing notes [to GOP lawmakers] the entire time” ex-NSC Russia staffer Fiona Hill testified.

“Exposing the identity of the whistleblower and attacking our client would do nothing to undercut the validity of the complaint’s allegations,” said Mark Zaid, one of the whistleblower’s attorneys. “What it would do, however, is put that individual and their family at risk of harm. Perhaps more important, it would deter future whistleblowers from coming forward in subsequent administrations, Democratic or Republican.” Zaid has represented The Daily Beast in freedom-of-information lawsuits against the federal government....

Well, according to this conspiracy theory (the only kind of belief system right-wingers understand) everyone else is lying and only Trump is telling the "perfect" truth.

The real issues are choosing among the very very many "options" to include in the articles of impeachment, and guessing just how many more states will flip blue in 2020.

My favorite part of all this is how trump tells others to defy Congressional subpoenas, which just adds to the list of obstruction of justice counts he will face. You just don't encounter stupidity of this magnitude in the normal course of things.
