Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

You might want to be cautious in Repug suburbs.

New (or reaffirmed) additions to my list:

Republicans attack Fauci and defend Trump at coronavirus hearing

PINO
Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La.
Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio
Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the Centers for Disease Control
Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer, R-Mo.
Trumpettes

PINO again:

Trump says he doesn’t 'think' Herman Cain caught coronavirus at the Tulsa rally

He has no way of knowing one way or the other. A human being would say, "If Herman Cain caught coronavirus at the Tulsa rally I regret it."

Thank god I'm not in a red burb. I'd worry more in Hendersonville where I had more of a mix of friends, but even my Republican friends are repulsed. I'm just not allowed to rub it in.

Given our average age wishing CV-19 on anyone out loud is probably not a good idea here. ;)

TV news, I missed the source: 180K dead by 8/31, 3 Vietnams (GI tally) in just 8 months.

It's like he read your doubts.

Republican (Rep Louie Gohmert, TX) says he will take Trump-promoted Covid-19 treatment (zinc and hydroxychloroquine) after implying he contracted coronavirus by wearing a mask

His MD should lose his license.

Yep, traitors.

If there's really evidence of this..... suck on it, red states. Elections have consequences.

Mexican president Amlo says he will wear mask 'when there is no corruption'

:confusion-scratchheadblue:
... Like his populist counterparts Jair Bolsonaro and Donald Trump, the president, popularly known as Amlo, has appeared skeptical over masks since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. He has never encouraged mask-wearing, and has only worn a mask in public when obliged to because he was taking a commercial flight.
POM flies commercial?
... Given the extent to which corruption is entrenched in Mexico’s politics, business and daily life, some Mexicans interpreted the president’s response to mean he won’t ever willingly wear a mask. (Amlo appeared to have forgotten that last November he claimed that “corruption and official banditry” had already been defeated in the country.)

Since the first coronavirus cases were detected in Mexico, Amlo has regularly conflated public health advice with petty politics and used his daily morning press conferences to troll opponents as much as inform the country.

He has offered homespun advice for avoiding the virus: lose weight, eschew junk food and find spirituality – to name but three nuggets.

Other senior functionaries have also equivocated on mask-wearing. Hugo López-Gatell, the country’s verbose Covid-19 tsar, has offered complicated responses to seemingly simple questions on the efficacy of using face coverings.

As in Brazil and the US, wearing a mask has assumed cultural and political connotations in Mexico – where opinions on Amlo are deeply polarised.
:obscene-birdiered:
... On Thursday, Mexico’s Covid-19 death toll topped 46,000 fatalities. That grim tally moved it past the UK into third on the list of countries with the worst death tolls.
:(

And the winner of the COVIDiot head of state competition is:

(Philippines president) Rodrigo Duterte: 'I'm not joking - clean masks with petrol'

Children and staff at Georgia overnight camp test positive for coronavirus, CDC says

... The camp, which the CDC did not name, held an orientation for 120 staff members and more than 130 trainees in mid-June, according to its Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. The staff members stayed at the camp and on June 21 were joined by more than 360 campers ranging in age from 6 to 19.

Days later, on June 23, a teenage staff member left after developing chills and later tested positive for the coronavirus. The camp began to send people home the following day and alerted the state's Department of Public Health.

Among the children and staff who were tested for the virus, 260 came back positive, with 231 of them aged 17 or younger....

The health department recommended that everyone who attended the camp get tested for the virus and self-quarantine. Those who tested positive were asked to isolate. The camp closed down on June 27....
I'll bet that it's an xtian camp.

As More Schools Stay Online, One That Opened Now Has a Virus Problem

One of the first school districts in the country to reopen its doors during the coronavirus pandemic did not even make it a day before being forced to grapple with the issue facing every system actively trying to get students into classrooms: What happens when someone comes to school infected?

On the first day of classes Thursday, a call from the county health department notified Greenfield Central Junior High School in Indiana that a student who had walked the halls and sat in various classrooms had tested positive for the coronavirus.

Administrators began an emergency protocol, isolating the student and ordering everyone who had come into close contact with the person, including other students, to quarantine for 14 days. It is unclear whether the student infected anyone else.

“We knew it was a when, not if,” said Harold E. Olin, superintendent of the Greenfield-Central Community School Corp., but were “very shocked it was on Day 1.” ...
I'm not.

Greenfield, Indiana is a suburb of Indianapolis with about 23K people. It's 96.6% White.
Hancock County is nearly 3 to 1 Repug. This is "special":
On February 19, 2020, it was announced that Hancock County Prosecutor Brent Eaton intends to prosecute victims of drug overdoses with felony drug possession charges. To do so, his plan is to use the administration of Narcan (an overdose-reversal nasal spray) by a police officer as probable cause for search warrants requiring the overdose victim to provide an oral swab for law enforcement to aid in the county's prosecution of the victim for felony drug possession charges. In fact, Eaton created a one-page Hancock County Overdose Report form for officers to fill out when they turn in an affidavit for a search warrant.
I'll bet the courts smack that down.

Thousands protest in Berlin against coronavirus restrictions

Image

Sigh.
... “Thousands of #covidiots are celebrating themselves in Berlin as ‘the second wave,’ without distancing, without masks," tweeted Saskia Esken, a co-leader of the Social Democrats, the junior party in Germany's governing coalition.

“They are not just endangering our health, they are endangering our success against the pandemic and for the revival of the economy, education and society. Irresponsible!"
:D When I coined the word I thought it was rather obvious, and I've since seen others independently use it. I did not know that it's a meme.

So there have been a lot of rigs with Harleys and Harley stuff passing through. It occurred to me that in most years the Sturgis bike days are in August, but of course, nobody would hold an event that drew over 700,000 people a few years ago and regularly hits 500,000, would they? As it turns out, they are. Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is on for 2020, with apparently only token efforts for virus protection. According to

In South Dakota:
The State of South Dakota does not have any travel restrictions in place for visitors. We welcome you to enjoy our Great Faces and Great Places. Our tourism businesses and attractions, national and state parks, hotels, motels, campgrounds, restaurants, retailers, cities and towns are open for business.
And then all the covidiots will pass through lots of places on the way back home, taking about the right amount of time to be contagious.

36 of the 158 crew infected, 387 disembarked passengers and their contacts to test  .
'No apparent social distancing': NYC river cruise stopped, arrests made over illegal party

Authorities shut down an illegal party on a New York City river cruise ship over the weekend for multiple violations, including a lack of social distancing provisions, according to the New York City Sheriff's Office.

Empire Cruises' Liberty Belle ship was intercepted at Pier 36 in Manhattan on Saturday and the owners and captain were arrested, the sheriff's department tweeted.
Good.
Photos shared to social media appeared to show a "packed" boat with "no apparent social distancing" or mask usage, as one Twitter user put it. Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer later said in a tweet she alerted New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to the posts, who then "alerted the sheriff who handles health & civil violations."
Did they think that people wouldn't notice?
In addition to violating the New York mayor's and governor's emergency social distancing orders, which ban non-essential gatherings of more than 10 people, the sheriff's office tweeted that the party also violated alcohol sales laws and navigation law, which prohibits the discharge of petroleum not “in compliance with the conditions of a federal or state permit.” ...

A pastor who told congregants not to be afraid of the coronavirus was hospitalized with COVID-19

... In a July 27 edition of Morning Glory, a Catholic radio show, he said that those not coming to church in the pandemic are "lukewarm" Catholics.

"About a third of my people have come home, that's it," he said, referring to those who had come back to in-person service. He said that the elderly and others who are vulnerable should not attend.

"I think a good number, at least half of that number who haven't come, were the lukewarm," he continued. "We may have lost them forever. Because in effect we said: 'Look, your physical health is more important than your spiritual health.' ... I think we've made a lot of big mistakes." ...
Catholics are all about guilt, but it seems that their god weighed in on the topic.
