If you want to argue that a team that goes 11-0 and beats 5 ranked teams is likely better than a team that goes 11-0 beating Northwest Boondock Teachers College, I'd agree with you. Of course, you can use that argument to say that a team that goes 7-4 against ranked teams is still better than the 11-0 NWBTC bully, but it won't matter because the 7-4 team won't get to the playoffs. I think using a schedule strength to evaluate a team is fine, but it doesn't take the place of a score from a real game. But clearly UCF is inferior to SEC teams and couldn't beat any of them, given its weak schedule, right? Oh, wait.

They did beat one very beat up team, but even then, it took several really big bad calls.

That game remains the only time I've seen a touchdown run blown dead.

You left out the part about the 11-0 team ending up with a higher score than the 7-4 team and throwing themselves parties and parades and creating fake rings and trophies, when all they did was barely beat a 7-4 sec team.

Or the next year when they were beat down by a 5th ranked sec team and ran around claiming that they should be in the 4 team playoffs.

But here we are again, ucf all set to play nobody

Play with who you brung.
I haven't heard Warriors saying "well, the Raptors won over a very beat up team" so their win is diminished (even though they could probably say that accurately)

And, it seems when UCF was beaten by the "5th rate team" they were without their starting QB, but you may have overlooked that.

Exactly, it's the ucf way. Don't play anyone, stay healthy and maybe beat one sec type team.

I said "5th place team" not rate team. As to your raptor example - Auburn and UCF weren't in a championship game, in spite of the grade school participation trophies they gave themselves. They were in a game against a 3 loss sec team. Auburn has beat a bunch of three loss teams but I don't remember us ever claiming a championship for doing so.

Auburn should feel honored that UCF claims a National Championship over them...

Why? We lost 4 games that year. What kind of pitiful do you have to be to throw yourself a national championship parade after playing a nothing schedule and beating a four loss team in a no consequence bowl game.

No trouble at all, those other Tigers didn't allow UCF to claim a fraudulent championship.

Then you didn't follow their claim that the LSU game was proof that they should have been in the playoff.

I definitely agree with his recommendation about offensive targeting. From the beginning Sabin's running backs lower their heads into the defensive player.

Okay, I'll talk to myself. That was then, the practice spread some last year. Y'all watch this year, my bet is you'll see at least a few ball carriers who cause the helmet to helmet contact.

It's a dangerous unintended consequence of a rule designed to make football safer.

Okay by me to penalize the runner, pending any counter-arguments.
... As for overtime games – which previously have had both teams beginning series at the 25-yard line until a winner is determined – a change will be made. If the game extends beyond four overtimes, instead of series beginning at the 25-yard line, the teams will alternate on two-point conversion tries from the 3-yard line.
Makes sense, but I can't remember any 5-overtime games.
There also will be mandatory two-minute rest periods between the second and fourth overtimes.
Otherwise know as the 3rd overtime? What the point, offenses and defenses are resting when their counterparts are on the field.
                • The same might be said for intentional grounding. The offense needing to stop the clock can just ground the ball, taking perhaps no more than a second off the clock for a “play.” In the course of play, intentional grounding is a tough penalty.
That's dumb. Who cares whether there's a spike or the QB takes a knee?
                • Also a tough penalty is the automatic first down for roughing the quarterback, even when he may have been trying to make a Hail Mary on a long yardage situation.
What does the type of pass have to do with it? Roughing is roughing, and there's a premium on protecting QBs from undue injury.

maybe this will finally get some discussion and some more use - especially in the first quarter when you can remove a top defensive player.

ut there is a difference. He loses a yard or two if he takes a knee. shouldn't he at least be required to throw it at an eligible receiver?

I mostly agree - why consider the type of pass. I would like to see a lesser penalty for the more minor hits on the qb

I think it's pretty rare that a team sacrificing a down to stop the clock cares about a yard or two. That said, the line of scrimmage could be moved to the spot of the spike.

That's dumb. Who cares whether there's a spike or the QB takes a knee?
But there is a difference. He loses a yard or two if he takes a knee. shouldn't he at least be required to throw it at an eligible receiver?
I think it's pretty rare that a team sacrificing a down to stop the clock cares about a yard or two. That said, the line of scrimmage could be moved to the spot of the spike.
Not so when stopping the clock to set up a one or two yard try for a 1st down or a TD.

The vast majority of spikes come after just having made a 1st down. Anyhow, I said I'd be fine with moving them back that yard or two. Good luck getting it implemented.
It really is time to stop being nice about stupidity.
