Speaking of team names - it's interesting how some MLB teams got their names, as well as some former names and some proposed names that didn't make the cut:

Watching live baseball!

Cubs intrasquad game at Wrigley, no fans, little noise.

It's weird.

Which just got weirder, top of the sixth and the umpires left.

Catchers are calling balls and strikes.

Redskins are Deadskins, Atlanta's chop is out, Chief Wahoo has left the building and maybe there won't be Chiefs or Indians. How have the Padres been overlooked in the ethnicity cleansing? The friars (padres) who were part of the California invasion did some major damage to the indigenous population and their culture and land. F'rinstance:
To the padres, a baptized Indian person was no longer free to move about the country, but had to labor and worship at the mission under the strict observance of the priests and overseers, who herded them to daily masses and labors. If an Indian did not report for their duties for a period of a few days, they were searched for, and if it was discovered that they had left without permission, they were considered runaways. Large-scale military expeditions were organized to round up the escaped neophytes. Sometimes, the Franciscans allowed neophytes to escape the missions, or they would allow them to visit their home village. However, the Franciscans would only allow this so that they could secretly follow the neophytes. Upon arriving to the village and capturing the runaways, they would take back Indians to the missions, sometimes as many as 200 to 300 Indians.[25]
Maybe not exactly slavery, but close enough in the current environment.

Some of their statues have already been pulled down in the Southwest.

I will buy you an umbrella chair for protesting outside the stadium.

Or not. I'm pretty sure in the overall scheme of national/international issues that sports team names are pretty low on the totem pole. Opps, another cultural misappropriation.

And actually an incorrect usage. On real totem poles, usually the one on the bottom is the first created and the most important.

Watching Cubs vs. Whitesox exhibition.

Yay, competitive baseball ⚾⚾⚾!!!

They do need to pump in crowd noise and background buzz, add in some cardboard fans and I'm good!

That's what the Mets (I think) did today. Cardboard fans behind home only.

I don't think they'd need to actually put up cardboard fans. Why couldn't they electronically spread fans into the stands in the same way they superimpose logos, ads, etc. on the field? They guys who came up with the first down lines, the blue-tailed puck, and the strike zone could surely create some fans.

I guess announcers are not traveling with teams this year. Cubs at White Sox tonight, Cubs broadcasters are remote from Wrigley.
