I saw that piece about the no driver trucks; they tout them as safer and more reliable than human drivers since the computer does not sleep, eat, or break traffic laws. What they did not mention is what happens when a hacker manages to get access to the truck brain and then takes over, making a high speed maximum whine run into a playground full of kindergarten kids. Better living through integrated circuits.

Even worse is when the robo-cars decide to do it on their own. Picture tens of thousands of malevolent vehicles carrying billions of these:

I've never owned or even driven a four wheel drive vehicle, but the situation shown doesn't appear to me to be too difficult to get out of; the rear wheels are less than a foot lower than the front ones and the vehicle does not appear to be bottomed out anywhere. The driver should have just kept straddling the existing groove in the road. He obviously lost his groove here.

Funny, I'm seeing someone who got smart after being so stupid.

Jeeps have a high center of gravity. Look how steep that slope is. That thing is not being driven off of there by a sane person.

I appreciate the spontaneous and successful gearhead volunteerism, but the result is also stupidity without consequences. I suspect we’ll never see a public mea culpa from the driver.
