A video and photos released by the White House meant to show that President Trump is winning his battle with COVID-19 have only raised more questions about an episode clouded by suspicion, rumors and confusion.
Saturday evening the White House released photos of Trump purportedly working at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. His daughter and senior adviser Ivanka posted one on Twitter, captioned, “Nothing can stop him from working for the American people. RELENTLESS!”
In one photo, Trump is putting his signature on a sheet of paper, which on close observation appears to be blank.
While multiple photos were released showing Trump in different locations and with different clothes, the corresponding metadata shows they were taken 10 minutes apart, implying to some observers they were staged to create the impression of a full day of presidential business.
The White House also released a video of Trump discussing his improved health and his intention of getting back to work. At one point in the 4-minute video, Trump appears to have coughed but the moment was inexpertly edited out....
The deceptions are no longer surprising, but I still marvel at the sheer incompetence.

Many in the White House are also shaken and scared — nervous that they have been exposed to the virus and confronting the reality that what seemed like a bubble of safety has become a COVID-19 hot spot. It took until late Sunday for the White House to send a generic note to staffers suggesting they not come to the building if they do not feel well.

So one could argue over whether it's the best strategy to have a SIYFH order, and might argue over when or if it's necessary to wear a mask, and how stringent one has to be in avoiding being close to others. Those arguments might be stronger or weaker depending on the facts and circumstances, but at least it's potential discussion material. But is there anyone left other than hard-core Trump cultists who doesn't see that no matter the criteria, Trump has not only handled the pandemic badly, but has made it far worse in the US? And if so, WTF are they thinking? Are they happy enough to sit in their crowded Florida bar that they just think all is well? Is handling the pandemic well considered only to be "let me go to Sturgis and get my kid out of the house and off to school"? Again, other than for the cultists, what possible arguments are there that the federal government, no matter who has been ummm "leading" it, has done a good job here?
Herman Cain tested positive on June 28. He died July 30th. Trump is probably aware of the timeline between Cain's diagnosis and death. If I were him I'd be worried, especially given that Trump is in shitty health.
If he survives this, his narrative is going to be what a hero he is taking the virus head on and vanquishing it. There will be no lessons learned. It is who and what he is and he is not capable of change. We all know that.
