Did Trump "drain the swamp"?

Unread post by Vrede too »

Update: We Found a “Staggering” 281 Lobbyists Who’ve Worked in the Trump Administration
That’s one lobbyist for every 14 political appointees, and four times more than Obama had appointed six years into office.

"The swamp" traditionally consisted of relatively smart greedy people. I expect there are still some of them around. But the trump swamp is composed of mostly stupid greedy people. Until corporate money is banned from political campaigns and organizations, there is no fucking way any swamp will be drained. And that's a fact, Jack.

Trump issues last-minute order attempting to free his appointees from ethics commitments

President Trump's last big batch of pardons will get most of the attention, but he also issued an executive order in his last few hours in office that seeks to free all current and former hires from the ethics agreements they signed to work in his administration. Trump revoked his January 2017 "Ethics Commitments by Executive Branch Appointees" order, the White House announced early Wednesday, so "employees and former employees subject to the commitments in Executive Order 13770 will not be subject to those commitments after noon January 20, 2021."

Those commitments included not lobbying the federal agencies they served under for five years after leaving government. The executive order, Yashar Ali notes, was the backbone of Trump's "drain the swamp" pledge.
 , not that anyone should be surprised. :x
President-elect Joe Biden takes office at noon on Wednesday, and presumably he could just issue a new executive order reversing Trump's....

Biden's planned executive order, Eisen wrote, "restores the fundamentals of the Obama plan, closing loopholes Trump opened—but going further, including new crackdowns on special interest influence. If implemented rigorously (always a big if) Biden’s plan promises to go further to 'drain the swamp' than either of his predecessors."

Criminal convictions, etc:
Tom Barrack - trial pending
Paul Manafort - convicted
Steve Bannon - pardoned by TRE45ON before he could face trial,
later convicted of contempt of Congress, awaits sentencing
Roger Stone - convicted on seven counts
Rick Gates - convicted
Michael Flynn - pleaded guilty
Michael Cohen - pleaded guilty
George Papadopoulos - pleaded guilty
Elliott Broidy - pleaded guilty
George Nader - pleaded guilty
Allen Weisselberg - pleaded guilty
Corey Lewandowski - just agreed to a misdemeanor battery on a woman deal
Then, there are the hundreds of J6 convicts and hundreds more with pending trials, all Trumpettes
Other than Bannon, I haven't bothered to list TRE45ON's wimpy, America-hating pardons and commutations. The convictions are convictions.

TRE45ON isn't just a Former PINO, he's a criminal enterprise.

And you haven't touched on charged, awaiting trial and under investigation.

Plus Bannon is awaiting sentencing.

Right you are on Bannon, I've edited above.
I did mention that Tom Barrack is awaiting trial.
Who else has been "charged, awaiting trial" besides the J6 idiots?
"under investigation" may include too many to name or even fully identify at this point. Rudy and Meadows are the most prominent, if not also the most likely to be charged.

I'd have to research further, but this one was the first to come to mind.

Guess you'd need a spreadsheet for the investigations.

I'd missed that, thanks. What an asshole! I edited the list above again.

And some assistants. How many staffers does the J6 Committee have?

Dunno, but these don't account for the numerous civil suits for trump and his lawyers to boot.

That would be a long list, too.

My list above came out of a discussion of criminal convictions, so I didn't include investigations without charges so far or the civil stuff.

“There was one industry that the new city would excel in, which did not require ships, portages, or much labor at all. An intense lobbying effort was launched in the crucial years of 1789 and 1790 by investors in the future site, claiming that the city would soon be larger than London, that children would regard it with "rapture," and that it would be “the only imperial city ever yet founded on the immutable and eternal principles of liberty and reason.”’

“So it happened—eased by the dinner deal, and by the extraordinary prestige of the figure whose name the new city would bear. Washington may be the only city on Earth that lobbied itself into existence”
