What are you watching?

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

However, Miles Surrey thinks Ted Lasso is great:
Well, I have to eat my words. Ted Lasso the sitcom … seriously rules. The series has no right to be as good, funny, and moving as it is. And yet I devoured all 10 episodes in a single day while frantically messaging my editor in disbelief that this is one of my favorite new shows. As far as TV productions go, this might as well be Leicester City winning the Premier League.

okay, anybody watched?

I'm not seeing $4.99 as expensive (or free if you watch within a week), but we all have our own perspectives.

Yeah, well, some people have prolific diamond mines and some people agonize with shuffling paper assets among various paper entities. Paper to the people. Paper power.

Back to the watching.

Just ran across an interesting PBS documentary, "Downing of a Flag". I hope this doesn't offend any of you Southerners, but it's a topic of which I'm not directly familiar. From what I've viewed so far, it appears to be relatively objective, with interviews from all sides of the question.
Downing of a Flag

Two hours

"Downing of a Flag" is a two-hour documentary film that focuses on the Confederate Battle flag and its impact on the people, politics, and perceptions of South Carolina and beyond. Through firsthand interviews featuring various perspectives and a wealth of historical footage, "Downing of a Flag" traces the symbol's controversial relationship with the Palmetto State, exploring its true meaning and how an unspeakable tragedy served as the catalyst for its long-debated removal. The story begins with the end of the Civil War and chronicles the flag's more than 150-year journey from the blood-soaked battlefields of Virginia to its use in American popular culture in the 1970s and 1980s, to its final removal from the South Carolina State House grounds in July 2015. Preceded by the killing of nine black parishioners at Charleston's historic Mother Emanuel AME Church by a white supremacist, the Confederate Battle flag's furling and the days and actions that led to that event could represent the final shots and battles of the American Civil War. Despite representing an end to a significant chapter in United States history, "Downing of a Flag" shows that the events of 2015 did not complete the story. Instead, we continue to see the flag used as a symbol, and as a result, it continues to haunt American Democracy.

I'll be recording it to DVD.

It would ruin your diet Ulysses. I can't stop making and eating Lasso's "biscuits."

It's a re-run, but just watched (for the first time) a great Nova show on the project to move the lighthouse at Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts. Nova is usually very good, but this one was a standout. It combines a lot of compelling stories: the history of the lighthouse and its importance to navigation, the geological challenge that led to is imminent collapse, the engineering and hard labor needed to secure it for a move to a safer location, and the role of the original native American population in the process. And they are apparently the only Native American community that is still on its ancestral land.

I can't recommend it more highly.

"Operation Lighthouse Rescue"

Repeat, 5/04/2016, Season 43 / Episode 12 , Science & Technology, Documentary

A group of engineers tries to move a 400-ton lighthouse that was built in 1856 further inland in order to keep the historic structure from falling into the ocean after years of erosion along the coast of Martha's Vineyard.

Reckon I'll continue my Apple TV commercial.

Now they have the the most estimable Jon Stewart back in the saddle.

"'The Problem with Jon Stewart," the comedian's new current affairs series, debuts on Apple TV+ on September 30, the company said Monday. The series will premiere globally in biweekly installments rather than an all at once binge-able offering. The show will also be augmented with a podcast.

Apple describes "The Problem" as a "a multiple-season, single-issue series, taking a deep-dive on the most important topics that are currently part of the national conversation." That will include the former "Daily Show" host interviewing those "impacted by the issue" as well as "those who have a hand in creating the impact"
