The Cinema Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

That was a fun Corden segment. The even did a few seconds of "jetpool" karaoke.

I used to know a guy who flew with the Blue Angels....

Anyway, he had a fear of heights. Couldn't get him to climb on the roof and tall staircases made him nervous. But the planes weren't an issue. Turns out that's not so uncommon and the difference is in what you see as the "floor". When he's in the plane, his "floor" is the floor of the plane and he's not really at a height....
I can relate. Airline turbulence doesn't bother me, nor do barrel rolls in Cessnas or biplane aerobatics. However, I don't like roller coasters and I never got fully comfortable piloting these:

:D More like an airboat on a kite.

Powered parachute

Similar ride to an ultralight, but far safer. If your engine dies you just float to the ground.

Go-kite?

I've never had an undue fear of heights. I remember climbing the oak tree in our front yard back when I was about five years old. I got up to the point where the branches were dried out and turning white and breaking easily, then headed back down. I heard later that a neighbor had reported the stunt to my mom: "I hope you didn't so what so-and-so told me you did", she said. I refrained from further teasing that dragon.

I've ridden go carts but I think motorcycles are more fun.

I'd try the "powered parachute"...

Ready or Not
2019, Horror, 1h 35m

Smart, subversive, and darkly funny, Ready or Not is a crowd-pleasing horror film with giddily entertaining bite.

Grace couldn't be happier after she marries the man of her dreams at his family's luxurious estate. There's just one catch -- she must now hide from midnight until dawn while her new in-laws hunt her down with guns, crossbows and other weapons. As Grace desperately tries to survive the night, she soon finds a way to turn the tables on her not-so-lovable relatives.

Lily James, as always, is delightful.
Robert Carlyle, not gonna tell you the surprise he pulls off, but it's perfect.

I usually cipher pretty good up till I run out of fingers, but I missed a finger in the final count.
6 out of 10 - it must have been the film class

A Trip to the Moon' (1902) - film class - a one reel film

The Great Train Robbery' (1903) - film class - one reel

'The Kid' (1921) - I hope everyone has seen this great by Chaplin

'Intolerance: Love’s Struggle Throughout the Ages' (1916)

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari' (1920)

Nosferatu' (1922)

'The Phantom Carriage' (1921)
Never seen it, but plan to

This was a really good movie.

Bronson
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt1172570/
In 1974, a hot-headed 19 year old named Michael Peterson decided he wanted to make a name for himself and so, with a homemade sawn-off shotgun and a head full of dreams he attempted to rob a post office. Swiftly apprehended and originally sentenced to seven years in jail, Peterson has subsequently been behind bars for 34 years, 30 of which have been spent in solitary confinement. During that time, Michael Petersen, the boy, faded away and 'Charles Bronson,' his superstar alter ego, took center stage. Inside the mind of Bronson - a scathing indictment of celebrity culture.

Thanks.

More on the film:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bronson_(film)

Critics and audience really liked it:
https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/bronson

The irl Charles Bronson (prisoner, not actor) briefly had a bare-knuckle boxing career as a free man, "has been held at times in each of England's three special psychiatric hospitals," and is 69 years old, thrice married, a successful artist and author, and still in prison:

Magic (1978 film)

Magic is a 1978 American psychological horror film starring Anthony Hopkins, Ann-Margret and Burgess Meredith. The film, which was directed by Richard Attenborough, is based on a screenplay by William Goldman, who wrote the novel upon which it was based....
  Madness.

Shown on TCM, but "No upcoming airings on TV in the next 12 days."
