I think it is a way to raise donations without all the little games that go with that once a candidate declares he is running. For years the democrats have called that signing a book deal.

There it is, campaign finance felonies are peachy because paranoid Possum thinks the Dems do it. FAIL. Book deals are made openly and we all know who the publisher is. If voters wish to imagine something nefarious about that, they have all relevant info at hand. This is far different from the hidden, illegal and wimpy donations that Possum is fond of.

The real issue with book deals is that cons can't read or are too lazy to heft a book. The remaining con readers are too few in number to merit a juicy book deal. Just look at still faithful Trumpette Kellyanne Conway's book - straight to the discount racks within a month . Possum's desperate deflection from this is transparent and spineless.
