Could it finally be true? Snyder's really going away and the sometimes football team formerly known as "Redskins" is really getting sold?

-0-? If it's even Bezos - I don't like his Amazon policies and tax shirking, but he hasn't destroyed WaPo and Dolt .45 hates him. Snyder is likely worse, I'll guess.

The N.F.L. team is on track to be sold for a record figure to a group led by Josh Harris, as investigations into sexual harassment claims and the team’s finances continue."

Cool, AFAIK. Dem balance at least.

A name change would be nice - DC Magic? Washington Showtime? Capital Not Snyders? - but they'll probably go with a drama minimizing strategy.

Only outrageously wealthy people are going to be owners of pro sports teams. Best we can hope for is that they aren't total sleaze bag assholes.

I've got an idea - name them the "Washington Redskins." Bring back the hog masks and the fight song. And maybe some players and coaching like they had when you had to wait for somebody to die to get a season ticket and dreams of Super Bowls didn't get people rolling on the floor.

And bring back Joe Gibbs.

MSN nonscientific online poll:

Would you want to see Aaron Rodgers play for your favorite team?
No, definitely not 62%, including me
Yes, definitely 28%, Jets fans and other desperate losers
Maybe, I'm not sure 6%
Other / No opinion 5%

Apparently with a new owner group the team formerly known as "Redskins" may be getting another new name. Maybe this one will have some relationship to DC or at least be something fun.

Okay, now I'm wishing for Kaaron to get benched after 3 games and the Jets to thrive without him.

5 birds
9 animals
That's about half, with the rest of the names a mish-mash of historical or cultural reference, and the very ridiculous "Bills."

So outside the zoo, there aren't any representative animals in DC; you wouldn't want it to be overtly political, but it is, after all, the national capitol.

Maybe there's something reminiscent of past history, as the Browns and Packers have, or some related fictional name like the Saints (maybe "Statesmen"?) Or maybe something meaningless that just happens to create alliteration like Tennessee Titans (Washington Wankers?)

Best example lately of good name selection is Baltimore, picking a name of historical touch that's a very smart and tough animal who makes an opportunity for a cool logo.

Don't be like Houston - "Texans" duh! Don't be like Jacksonville to pick an animal not found within 3,500 miles. Don't take somebody else's name that doesn't fit (Utah "Jazz", seriously?)

I'll bet they blow it. Hopefully I'm wrong.

"The Jazz relocated from New Orleans to Salt Lake City on June 8, 1979."
Maybe the Tourist Board thought retaining the name would make SLC seem hip. -0-?

Landlocked Vegas should dump the pirate Raiders name. Maybe Bandits, Elvises or Neon?

I still like the DC Comics, or more ominously the Capital Punishment.
