Florida Boaters...

Search on for Florida boaters missing in lake near Legoland

Authorities searched Sunday for two boaters who were missing and believed drowned in an accident on a central Florida lake near the Legoland theme park.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said at a news conference that the two men had jumped into Lake Eloise to save a third person from their group, a woman, who was struggling in the water. The men became separated from the boat and have not been seen since Saturday evening.

The third person, 38-year-old Velcky Velazques, was rescued by sheriff's deputies who had been summoned when a 10-year-old girl on the boat dialed 911 on a cellphone....

The lake, adjacent to Legoland in Winter Haven, was rough on Saturday with 20 mph (32 kph) winds and some whitecaps, Judd said. He added that the weather issues were compounded by inexperience on the part of the boaters, who had rented the vessel for an outing that day.

The problems began when the Velazques jumped into the water with an anchor, the sheriff said.

“She's just very inexperienced, so she thinks you're supposed to get into the water, put the anchor in and then tie it to the boat,” Judd said....
Too stupid to die, and the guys were too stupid to wear life vests.

Not an expression I've ever heard used before: "jumped into the water with an anchor."

When I saw the headline I thought it was some Florida people visiting Legoland here in Carlsbad. But there's no real lake near there. Ocean, yes, but no real lake.

So they're out in a lake, in Florida where rumours or myths have it there are ancient gatorcritters, and jump into the water with no life jackets and and anchor.

They found the two guys, apparently using a fish finder.
Sheriff Judd said the adults successfully passed a class in order to rent a boat for the day.
Sure, but...“She’s just very inexperienced,” Judd said. “So she thinks you have to get into the water, put the anchor in, and then tie it to the boat.”

“It is a rough day on the water,” Judd said. “The wind’s blowing about 20 miles per hour, there’s a two-foot chop with whitecaps.”
Non-boaters rent a boat to go out in two-foot chop and 20mph wind and the "training" they got didn't even tell them how to toss anchor.

Gotta be strong candidates for Darwin awards.

The anchor wasn't already tied to the boat? Did she untie it?

I saw a story a couple of days ago on yahoo news feed that a 60 some year old man in FL, while being arrested for having child pornography on his computers, was also caught viewing child porn while the cops were searching his house. I just had to look off out the window after reading about it.

You mock, but that last viewing is going to have to get him through years in prison.

So the Sarasota "Herald Tribune" has a letter to the editor reeking in sarcasm over the banning of "David" from the moon-barkers' school.
Pornographic statue on St. Armands Circle?
I drove into St. Armands Circle last week and was shocked to see a statue of three semi-naked women (The Three Graces) engaged in some lewd act.
Children of all ages driving by are exposed to this hideous display of pornography. It should be taken down at once.
What kind of "woke" town is Sarasota?Gerard Iannelli, Haddon Heights, New Jersey
Ok, but some "Florida Man", either not having the ability to recognize satire when he sees it or suffering from the same literalist issues as the former poster known as "Useless", takes the comment seriously and gets up on his rightous soapbox and states, among other things,
Instead of it being an opportunity to discuss the beauty of a woman, it is men like Gerald who reduce it to pornography because that is how he normally views a naked woman.

Here's one up and a double down on your David and Lesbos.

https://hyperallergic.com/811443/florid ... ly-values/

high school principal in Jacksonville, Florida has banned his teachers from showing an Early Renaissance painting of the Madonna and Child, claiming the Virgin Mary “doesn’t look happy enough” about experiencing the joy of motherhood. Governor Ron DeSantis quickly voiced his support for the principal, adding that Mary Magdalene “looks like a hooker.”

Randy McRandall, who has served as the principal of Jacksonville Central High School since 2021, announced his decision to remove Neroccio di Bartolomeo de’ Landi’s “Madonna and Child with St. John the Baptist and St. Mary Magdalene” (1495) from the curriculum in a school-wide email earlier this week. Citing the Virgin Mary’s “lack of enthusiasm,” he stated that the painting is “an assault on family values” that constitutes “a partisan attack on the pro-life movement.”

In a series of tweets, Governor DeSantis applauded the decision to ban the artwork. He specifically took issue with the artist’s representation of Mary Magdalene, who can be seen in the background to the right of St. John the Baptist, admitting that although he has not personally read the Bible, the way the figure is looking out at the viewer is “inappropriate.”

Dadgummit, durnburnit! It's obvious this is a glorification and endorsement of lesbian dance therapy. And now apparently it's having a bad effect on the people who visit our state from other states. Needs to be torn down or at least covered up with boards. Stomping emoji.

I think this one is real and possibly more insane:

I'm confused by your "insane" and the author's "Florida man". It's USUALLY difficult to get unintentionally arrested at a nonviolent protest and in fact the group ignored an order to disperse.

Florida Dem leaders Nikki Fried, Lauren Book arrested at abortion ban protest: What we know

Good on them for choosing to place an exclamation point on their level of commitment to freedom.

More insane than the April fools joke I fell for.

Yeah, good on Nikki. Hopefully a DeSantis connection to the dispersal oder will shine through.
