Have Republican pols collectively lost their fucking minds?

Or maybe they just need to be just smarter than the people that vote for them.

Well, look, it makes a nice headline and all that, and it was undoubtedly bad timing and poor optics, but they really aren't the same thing. One is part of state employees' compensation, not unlike raising the mileage rate when IRS allows it; the other is a welfare benefit on behalf of kids. So sure, I'll join in the bashing of them not passing the school meal plan, but the state employee per diem really isn't related.

EmptyG's "civil war" may be between states vying to be the most right wingnutty stupidest. For example, back to Florida:
... Charges were dropped against a second man arrested in the case, records show. The charges were dropped under the Stand Your Ground law for self-defense, Jacksonville, Florida, station news4jax reported....

A witness called 911, reporting a black Ram pickup truck with five occupants and a gray Murano with three occupants involved in a road-rage incident, the sheriff said. A 911 caller described it as a “cat-and-mouse game,” the sheriff said. The two were brake-checking, getting in front of each other and hitting the brakes.

The witness said both drivers were driving so erratically that he called 911 because he thought something bad would happen, the sheriff said....

A plastic water bottle was thrown from the Ram into the Murano.

The Murano driver then grabbed his 45-caliber semi-automatic handgun and fired one shot at Hale’s truck, police said. The bullet entered the pickup truck’s right-side rear passenger door and struck a 5-year-old girl in the right leg.

That driver, the sheriff said, said he fired his weapon “to get out of the whole situation.” ...
:bs: :bs: :bs: :bs: :bs: :bs: :bs: :bs: :bs: :bs:
Even Stand Your Ground doesn't create a retroactive excuse for driving recklessly before the shooting, nor does it give permission for firing so wildly as to strike a rear seat passenger. FU, Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nassau_County,_Florida
... The county seat and the largest incorporated city is Fernandina Beach. Nassau County is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area, which was home to 1,534,701 people in 2018....
Most NE county, a cartographer's twitch away from being Georgia. 84% White and almost 3 to 1 RepuQ, of course. It's way worse than extreme NW Escambia County, which is practically Alabama.

Ftr, Henderson County, North Carolina and Greenville County, South Carolina are about the same as Escambia County. Otoh, neoplacebo's Tennessee 1st congressional district (Diana Harshbarger) is slightly WORSE than Nassau County, FL. :puke-left:

This topic may have already been broached so apologies if so, but have you all heard about the uproar over Bud Light partnering with trans person Dylan Mulvaney? Kid rock shot up some cases of bud light. Country musicians are pissed. Rednecks are filming themselves tossing their bud light products in the garbage. I just saw a video of James O'Keefe following Mulvaney around a hotel trying to get them to answer what she thinks about trans people in women's prisons.

It's madness.

My take: Who. The. Fuck. Cares.

Why waste all this energy on this. On a shitty beer no less.

Nothing is being pushed down anyone's throat, as much as these yokels would probably like something pushed down theirs given most are probably closeted anyway. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Be your true self.

I thought someone had posted about this, but I can't find it.
Okla. official resigns amid accusations of racism, talk of killing journalists
Mark Jennings allegedly lamented no longer being able to lynch Black people who had been arrested

A county commissioner in Oklahoma resigned Wednesday amid growing backlash after a local newspaper reported that he and other officials talked about lynching Black people and threatened to assassinate two reporters in a conversation secretly recorded by one of those journalists....

Those events started over the weekend, when the McCurtain Gazette-News published an article based on a recording that one of its reporters secretly made last month after a Board of Commissioners meeting. Reporter Bruce Willingham, who left his recorder running in the room after leaving the meeting, reported that the device caught Jennings and several other officials allegedly lamenting about no longer being able to beat up or lynch Black people who had been arrested, comparing a woman who had recently burned to death in a house fire to “barbecue” and floating the idea of getting hit men to kill two journalists who had reported on alleged misconduct by county officials for years....

Three days earlier, Gov. Kevin Stitt (R) called on him and three other McCurtain County officials to step down, saying he was “appalled and disheartened to hear of the horrid comments.” The other officials are Sheriff Kevin Clardy, sheriff’s investigator Alicia Manning and county jail administrator Larry Hendrix.
:---P :---P :---P
Clardy, Manning and Hendrix did not respond Wednesday to requests for comment, but in a Facebook post published Monday night, the sheriff’s office said the audio was “illegally obtained” and had not been authenticated.
:crybaby:
It also said that “preliminary information” indicated it had been “altered.”
:bs:
... Earlier on Monday, protesters swarmed a regularly scheduled board meeting at which commissioners were slated to discuss road maintenance and a local business’s zoning plan. The protesters held up a sign next to officials that read “Resign Now!” They also protested outside the commissioners’ office with more signs: “Crooked McCurtain County,” “Shed Light in the Darkness” and “The pen is mightier than the Sword!!”

Image
Protesters call for the resignation of several local officials.

On Tuesday, the Oklahoma Sheriffs’ Association met in an emergency meeting to discuss what was happening in McCurtain County, according to the association’s Facebook page. In a unanimous vote, the board suspended Clardy, Manning and Hendrix.

On Wednesday, state Sen. George Burns (R), who lives in and represents McCurtain County, said he met with Jennings and Clardy and told them to resign immediately over the alleged “racist, hateful comments.” In his statement made after Jennings did so, he continued to push Clardy, Manning and Hendrix “to do the right thing and submit their resignations as well.”

... Willingham, the Gazette-News reporter, told KWTV that he left his recorder on after the March 6 meeting, hoping to get evidence that Jennings and other officials were holding a secret meeting in violation of state law....
4 officials, at least, might be a violation. If so, I'm not sure that an 'illegal recording' whine will fly. Illegal or not, the assholes said what they said and must be ousted. It's disgraceful that they haven't all quit.

Sounds sort of like systemic racism, don't it? Many wingnuts on LNF deny that it's even a thing. They seem to cite the fact that races other than white actually exist as some sort of evidence.

Is Texas still part of the union?

Probably going to take a federal court to strike this down.

I'm pretty sure that's not going to stand. But it's way past scary that it got passed in the senate.
