Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

I am more than reasonably concerned about my safety with idiots like Goofy trying to make gun laws.

What should I do?

:D Tell Goofy Gaetz that his actions make you "reasonably" concerned that they put you at risk of "imminent death or great bodily harm."

Full post:
Occupy Democrats
@OccupyDemocrats

BREAKING: MAGA Rep. Matt Gaetz unveils a horrifying national "stand your ground" bill that would allow anyone to use deadly force so long as they later claim that they were "reasonably" concerned that they were in risk of "imminent death or great bodily harm."

Such laws have been utterly disastrous in Republican-controlled states like Florida where they allow any yahoo with a gun and an itchy trigger finger to blow the heads off innocent people.

“It’s time to reaffirm in law what exists in our Constitution and in the hearts of our fellow Americans. We must abolish the legal duty of retreat everywhere," said Gaetz, who apparently think that this country needs MORE gun violence not less.

If this deranged legislation passes, MAGA lunatics all over America will be able to finally act out their violent fantasies of vigilante justice with impunity.

Retweet if you strongly oppose this dangerous bill!

Exactly. If Goofy Gaetz had his way this asshole would skate:
Louisiana girl shot in head while playing hide-and-seek

Image

... The 14-year-old was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after she was shot in the back of the head in rural Louisiana, police said.

David Doyle, 58, is charged with aggravated assault and battery. He told officers he opened fire after seeing "shadows outside his home".

It is the latest US shooting sparked by a seemingly trivial misunderstanding....

The homeowner, Mr Doyle, "stated he observed shadows outside his home, at which time he went inside and retrieved his firearm," added the press release.

"He then advised detectives he went back outside and observed people running away from his property, at which time he began shooting at them and unknowingly hit the girl." ...
:bs: He aimed at a nonthreatening target that he failed to minimally identify, and he hit her.

Lock him up.

Woman's death by stray bullet authorities say Texas neighbor fired called 'senseless crime'

The death of a woman, who authorities say was sleeping in her suburban Houston apartment when she was killed by a stray bullet fired by a neighbor shooting at people breaking into vehicles, was called a “senseless crime” by her family Thursday.

... Lewis has been charged with manslaughter....

To call something "senseless" only means you don't want to bother to understand why. Not saying it wasn't stupid, irresponsible, and hopefully illegal even in Texas, but "shooting at people breaking into vehicles" definitely isn't "senseless."

How so? Either a guy randomly picks up a gun and shoots it at some people, or else he's got a reason for it. Finding out that reason goes a long way in knowing if he's a loon or just criminally evil. Calling it "senseless" doesn't help.
In theory.

Understanding there are multiple meanings of the word...

Picking up a gun and firing it in a fit of rage at someone (for most people) for the purposes defending personal property will realize, upon reflection they lacked common sense.

OK "defies common sense" I can live with.
I don't know if the facts and circumstances of this story are correct, but let's assume they are. And let's say for sake of discussion that the shooter lived in a neighborhood where there had been numerous break-ins and let's say that reports to police had not produced any results. So they guy sees somebody breaking into cars and decides (unwisely) to shoot at them. It would seem that the primary cause of that incident might be ignorance on the part of the shooter. Probably didn't understand that property crimes aren't a direct threat to his safety or grounds for "standing his ground." Probably wasn't very well trained in using his firearm insofar as making sure there's nothing behind where he's shooting. And probably has a bit of a temper. Take all those possibilities and it comes down to none of it would have mattered if he hadn't had easy access to a gun. He'd still be mad at the vandals/thieves, the neighbor would still be alive, and he could go back to sleep instead of going to jail. Put a gun within easy reach and several lives get ruined. But yeah, more guns, less training, less licensing, laxer laws - sure, that's the ticket - just what we need.

He was skeered.

Of course that wouldn't preclude him from firing warning shots above their heads to scare them away.

In theory shots in the air could fall and injure or kill someone.
This idiot claims he was firing into the ground to scare the thieves away. Opps.
Being so unskilled that he fired into an occupied building could be labeled "senseless".
Texass arming the unskilled could be labeled "senseless".
Our American ammosexual culture could be labeled "senseless".

Hell, depending on who it was and what the situation was, I'd be liable to fire at my own feet and dance around, and then announce that "I can also do that around your own feet or even your head." Then I'd give him a Tucker Carlson giggle just for the hell of it. I suspect even artificial intelligence would run away from that sort of statement. Hard to say.

There's never going to be any meaningful legislation.
I like the idea of stopping calling them "mass shootings" or "mass killings" and refer to them as "Second Amendment Celebrations"

 , though Joltin' Joe did sign meaningful legislation a year ago. We need to go much further.

What other countries say about the gun violence problem in the U.S.
As mass shootings rise in the U.S., despite its relative safety, other nations are highlighting the dangers of gun violence for would-be travelers.

... At least seven nations have issued advisories to their citizens who intend on traveling to the U.S., citing serious safety concerns in recent years. New Zealand, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, France, Venezuela and Uruguay have each urged precaution for travelers when visiting the U.S., due in large part to gun violence....
Lots of detail on US crime and violence, along with foreign perceptions.

So proud.

But..but...but, if Presidential aspirants stop "pushing their extreme positions nationally" what happens to DeSantis et. al.? On the other hand, to be fair, Governor, Bakersfield/Kern County is statistically safer than 3% of the country.

A man accidentally shot himself in his sleep while dreaming about a home invasion. He's now been charged with 2 felonies.

A man in Lake County, Illinois, who accidentally shot himself while sleeping, has been taken into custody on charges of illegal possession and reckless discharge of a firearm, local officials said.

The man, identified as Mark Dicara of Lake Barrington, grabbed a .357 Magnum revolver in his sleep while dreaming about an intruder entering his home on Monday night, a press release said.

He then fired the revolver and shot himself in the leg, instantly waking up from the dream, it added....

7-year-old fatally shoots 5-year-old child in eastern Kentucky

Bad 7-year-old. If only there had been a good 7-year-old with a gun there.
... There have been more than 150 unintentional shootings by children in the U.S. so far this year, including three others in Kentucky, resulting in at least 58 deaths and 101 injuries, according to the Everytown for Gun Safety advocacy group.

Kentucky does not have any laws that impose a penalty on those that fail to secure an unattended firearm, according to Giffords Law Center....
