Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Quickly getting to be North Carorida. If Dems can't hold the guv's job in '24, you're all screwed.
There are reasons:

Amazon and Google fund anti-abortion lawmakers through complex shell game
Blue-chip companies gave to Republican group funneling money to lawmakers who overturned abortion-ban veto in North Carolina

Also Comcast, Intuit, Wells Fargo and Bank of America.
... North Carolina’s 12-week abortion ban is scheduled to go into effect on 1 July, drastically curtailing abortion access as many other southern states have passed near total bans.

I'm not one to defend the campaign finance system, nor the practice of buying shares in congresscritters. But that article is a long way from showing that a tiny (for them) generic contribution to a RepuQ funding group shows the corporations to be anti-abortion or even that abortion positions were what they were paying for in their purchase. If you're the Gaggle Company, worldwide leader in production of sustainable geese and you want to get a bill passed to allow you to use several square miles in the corner of GSNP to do it, you're going to need to buy the interest of the congresscritters in WNC and eastern TN. So you get the bill you paid for but other people also own a share of your congresscritter and he's voting to force childbirth onto 12 year olds and legalize incest. Opps. There you are in the news, portrayed (at least until or unless you get to the fine print) as supporting 12-year old childbirth and incest.

The article describes the nuances that you discuss, but regardless of rationalizations the facts are that "anti-abortion ... positions were what they were paying for in their purchase" and these corps ARE ultimately "supporting 12-year old childbirth and incest."

Judge in Italy says groping is only a crime if it lasts more than 10 seconds

... The controversial ruling has caused uproar in Italy, with the term "palpata breve" — a brief groping — becoming part of a video trend on TikTok and Instagram, in which Italians simulate groping their intimate parts for 10 seconds straight while staring at the camera.

The trend was started by actor Paolo Camilli, who was in "The White Lotus," with social media influencers and other Italian celebrities following suit, Corriere Della Sera reported.

Video

Speaking to Corriere Della Sera, Laura said she hopes prosecutors appeal the ruling, adding that the decision has made her feel both angry and betrayed.

Laura also told the newspaper that she fears the ruling will prevent other victims of sexual harassment from reporting it to the police.

"After this decision, if a girl is groped, she will end up thinking that it is not worth reporting violence," she said.
Wow, excellent solidarity action. Imagine being the judge who has incited an entire nation to grope themselves on camera.

Anti-Choice Senator Gets Absolutely BLASTED

Anti-choice Senator Tommy Tuberville gets obliterated by Rep. Elissa Slotkin for blocking 250 military nominations and promotions for the Marine Corp, Army and Navy. Tuberville is blocking these nominations because he wants to restrict women in the military from getting an abortion. Tuberville's immature, pathetic act is putting America's national security in jeopardy.

There is no limit to the depths of dishonest, undemocratic sleaze that RepuQs and misogynists will sink to:
Top North Carolina Republicans privately encouraged then-Democrat Tricia Cotham to run for the state House in 2022, a year before she switched parties and gave the GOP a veto-proof majority

... Democrats were outraged, as they had welcomed back into their fold a longtime colleague who just three months into her new term had flipped parties. And Republicans were thrilled with their newfound power, ribbing Democrats for not working more effectively with Cotham and vowing major changes on everything from abortion rights to education reform.

What was previously unknown until now was that top North Carolina Republicans — namely House Speaker Tim Moore and House Majority Leader John Bell — had encouraged Cotham to run for the seat last year, according to The Times....

Cotham just last year campaigned on a platform backing abortion rights, but after her party switch, she voted for a 12-week abortion ban that was vetoed by Cooper but overridden by the legislature courtesy of her vote....

Trump-Appointed Judge Cites Wildlife Cases As a Reason to Ban Abortion Pills

On Wednesday, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals said it would restrict access to the main abortion pill, mifepristone, allowing its use only through seven weeks of pregnancy (down from the current 10) and banning telemedicine prescriptions of it. (None of the proposed changes will take effect until the Supreme Court weighs in on the case.)

But Fifth Circuit Judge James Ho—who was sworn in by Justice Clarence Thomas in GOP megadonor Harlan Crow’s library in 2018—wanted his colleagues go even further. He would have fully reversed the Food and Drug Administration approval of the abortion pill, and he used some uh, wild, reasons to support his argument.

... it’s still scary to think what the Supreme Court will do with his writings in the case when they finally weigh in—right in the middle of the 2024 election. It’s also scary to think that Ho, who was on Donald Trump’s Supreme Court shortlist, could get nominated to the high court if Trump wins the presidency in 2024.

Missouri appeals court rules against ballot summary language that described 'dangerous' abortions

Image
Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft

:---P Would you want that creep's filthy hands in any woman's womb?
A three-judge panel of the Western District Court of Appeals found the summaries written by Republican Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft, who is running for governor in 2024, are politically partisan.
Democracy-hating vile misogynists lie and lie and lie.
Ballot summaries are used on Missouri ballots to help voters understand sometimes lengthy and complex constitutional amendments and policy changes.

Ashcroft’s original description of the amendments, which could go on the ballot in 2024 if supporters gather enough voter signatures, would have asked voters whether they want to “allow for dangerous, unregulated, and unrestricted abortions, from conception to live birth, without requiring a medical license or potentially being subject to medical malpractice.”

But the appeals-court panel wrote that allowing unrestricted abortion "during all nine months of pregnancy is not a probable effect of initiatives.”

The judges largely upheld summaries that were rewritten by a lower court judge to be more impartial.

The summaries approved by the appeals court would tell voters the amendments would “establish a right to make decisions about reproductive health care, including abortion and contraceptives” and “remove Missouri’s ban on abortion.”
GoWomen's LibertyGo
Ashcroft said he plans to appeal the ruling.
:crybaby:
... “Today, the courts upheld Missourians’ constitutional right to direct democracy over the self-serving attacks of politicians desperately seeking to climb the political ladder," the ACLU of Missouri said in a statement. It called the decision "a complete rebuke of the combined efforts from the Attorney General and Secretary of State to interfere and deny Missourian’s their right to initiative process.”

Republican Attorney General Andrew Bailey’s office is defending Ashcroft’s summary language in court.

“Missourians deserve meaningful access to abortion and the ability to fully participate in the democratic process,” Emily Wales, the president and CEO of the Planned Parenthood’s Great Plains affiliate, said in a statement. “The court rightfully struck down language that is misleading and stigmatizing.”

Missouri is among several states, including Ohio, where abortion opponents are fighting efforts to ensure or restore access to the procedure following the fall of Roe v. Wade last year....

Measures to protect access already have spots in the 2024 votes in Maryland and New York. Legislative efforts or petition drives are underway in a variety of states. There are efforts to protect or expand access in Arizona, Florida, Nevada and South Dakota; and to restrict it in Iowa, Nebraska and Pennsylvania. Drives are on for both kinds of measures in Colorado.

Voters in every state with an abortion-related ballot measure since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, effectively making abortion access a state-by-state question, have favored the side supported by abortion rights supporters....
Montana was one of these.

Six Defendants Convicted of Federal Civil Rights Conspiracy and Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act Offenses for Obstructing Access to Reproductive Health Services in Tennessee

A federal jury convicted six defendants today of federal civil rights offenses arising out of their blockade of a reproductive health care clinic in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, on March 5, 2021. The defendants were each convicted of a felony conspiracy against rights and a Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (FACE Act) offense.
GoTennesseeJuryGo!
According to evidence presented at trial, Chester Gallagher, Heather Idoni, Calvin Zastrow, Coleman Boyd, Paul Vaughn and Dennis Green engaged in a conspiracy to prevent the clinic employees from providing, and patients from receiving, reproductive health services, a civil right secured by the FACE Act. As part of the conspiracy, Idoni, Zastrow, Boyd and Green traveled to Tennessee from other states to participate in the clinic blockade, and Gallagher and Vaughn stalled the Mount Juliet Police Department through negotiations that Gallagher referred to as a delay tactic.
Carpetbaggers and obstructionists.
Evidence at trial further proved that the defendants violated the FACE Act by using physical obstruction to interfere with the clinic’s employees and a patient because the clinic was providing, and the patient sought, reproductive health services.

“These defendants are being held accountable for unlawfully obstructing access to reproductive health services,” said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. “The Justice Department will continue to enforce the FACE Act to protect the rights of those who provide and those who seek access to such services.”

... A sentencing hearing has been set for July 2. The defendants each face up to a maximum of 10 and a half years in prison, three years of supervised release and fines of up to $260,000. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors....
A decade each for a nonviolent protests would be ridiculous, but I'm not bothered that the misogynist christofascists are sweating it for these next 5 months. Lock them up for less than 10 and a half years.
