The Supremes

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

If you ask me, it seems that knock on the head he got has rattled his cerebellum in such a way that it is still flopping against the underside of his skull.

We're not gasping in horror — in horror —, Moscow Mitch. This is what we expect of Clarence and the RepuQs.

GOP donor Harlan Crow paid ("more than $6,000 a month") private tuition for relative of Justice Clarence Thomas

Ah, the nephew loophole for non reporting.

Supreme Court ethics needs to become a campaign issue.

They've got no one to blame but themselves.

Looks to me like if there's any "deep state" it's the people on the Court. No accountability, no appeals, no recourse to even address things they decide other than legislative action by Congress, and even then the Court could say the legislation is unconstitutional. The nutjobs squawking about the deep state had a big hand in founding it.

Maybe we're all being mean:

Clarence Thomas — who let a GOP megadonor foot bills for him for years — said being a Supreme Court justice 'is not worth doing for what they pay'

Republican AG says he'll investigate Indiana doctor who provided care to 10-year-old rape victim

 IN Republican Attorney General Todd Rokita, Ohio Republican Attorney General Dave Yost and Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Jordan are cretins. The rape WAS rapidly reported and a suspect has been arrested. Opps. Note that Jordan childishly deflects and doesn't have the balls to admit that he screwed up.

Of course, if it was up to the misogynist RepuQs the poor girl would have had a forced birth and her filthy rapist would have parental rights.

Constitutional flaw IMO. There is no practical check on the Supremes.

Spinal flaw IMO. RepuQs would have agreed to constitutionally impeach Clarence years ago if they had any ethics or patriotism.

Then, there are potential legislative actions including strict ethics rules, criminal options, and sanctions short of impeachment.

Q: How do you know for a fact that your state is racist and undemocratic?
A: When even the 2023 SCOTUS says so.
A: When Uncle Thomas whines for 50 pages that your state is not racist and undemocratic.

There really is no check or balance on The Supremes.

It's very troubling. Until recently there integrity was never questioned although their decisions were.

Another trump legacy.
One of the saddest comments I've read lately.
When the highest guardians of the law are corrupt, the country is truly in deep shit. Trump and trumpers have made it very difficult to separate the "bad apple" from the barrel since their largely successful campaign to weaken confidence in institutions as a whole. So every instance of individual misbehaviour becomes another indictment on the whole.
Difference between Canada and the US #165:
Canadian Supreme Court justice steps down amid probe into misconduct claim

A Canadian Supreme Court justice facing a judicial conduct review has stepped down from his post, the Canadian Justice Council said.

Justice Russel Brown allegedly had a drunken altercation at an Arizona resort, which involved harassment of a female guest in January.

Mr Brown, who has denied the allegations, has been on leave since February.

The retirement ends the CJC's probe into his alleged misconduct.

There are differing accounts of the incident, which took place while Mr Brown, 57, was staying at the luxury Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia, attending a gala celebrating a former colleague.

In a police report filed in January, a US Marine Corps veteran claimed Mr Brown touched a female guest without consent and that he later punched Mr Brown "a few times" during an argument.
Odious and unacceptable if true, but sounds no worse than drunk guys do all the time, and certainly not as bad as what Boof Kavanaugh was accused of. No comparison to the corruption of Justices Clarence Thomas and Neil Gorsuch.
... Since being on leave for four months, the court has had to "hear and decide important appeals without the benefit of a full panel".

"While my counsel and I are confident that the complaint would have ultimately been dismissed, the continuing delay is in nobody's interests - the Court's, the public's, my family's or my own," said the statement from Mr Brown....
Whether guilty or not, that is what honorable and patriotic leaders do.

Difference #166:

There's a Canadian Judicial Council that can investigate and remove even Supreme Court justices.
