What a fabulous ending to game 1. Sudden death, power play, perfect pass and shot, valiant but unsuccessful attempt to block. Game over.

Another OT, sudden death end. Avalanche is one game away from Lord Stanley's cup.

I suspect for some reason I'm talking to myself in this thread.

The only surprise is that Colorado lost a game.

I enjoyed going to games when I was a kid, but I've always found it difficult to spot the puck on TV. I want it to be neon green or perhaps lit by an internal strobe. Inferring where it is from the action just doesn't do it for me.

Go Avalanche.

Wasn't there an experiment with "lighted" pucks some years ago? The puck wasn't really lighted, of course, but the effect was like when they show the golf ball track or the first down line in NFL.

Ah yes. The FoxTrax.
https://thehockeywriters.com/nhl-foxtra ... niversary/
Thanks. That looks a little cartoonish to me, but maybe I would have gotten used to it. I do appreciate the effort.
... The glowing puck lasted until the end of the 1997-98 Stanley Cup Final. ABC obtained the NHL’s broadcasting rights for the United States in the summer of 1998, and the FoxTrax puck era had come to an end.
24 years, should be light years better if they tried it now.
Fox kept the FoxTrax branding alive and transitioned it to other sports. They have used it NASCAR broadcasts, and also for the electronic strike zone display for baseball games.
I like those, and GoCubsGo wants to do away with umpires entirely, at least for calling pitches.
... The only thing colder than we were that weekend was the reception that hockey purists gave the FoxTrax puck.

But looking back, the FoxTrax puck was probably an idea that the broadcasting technology of the time was not ready for. And as much as it made the serious hockey fans cringe, it introduced a lot of American viewers to hockey for the first time.
Someone will try something again sometime. If not an improved FoxTrax, maybe just the more visible puck that I suggest.

The "glow" was a bit funky. But I'd agree the technology has progressed a lot and they should be able to make it just look like a bright little light.

HDTV has made following the puck a whole lot easier than the analog days, but it's still tough at times (or I'm getting older... -0-? ).

With good reason!

I'm not really sure what's going on here, but it's cute as hell.

There is something obscene about Vegas playing Dallas for the right to oppose winner-over-Carolina Florida in a June HOCKEY final.
