(Unranked) LSU does it again, storms back to top Kentucky in 1-point win

... Wednesday's victory came one game after the Tigers overcame a 16-point second-half deficit in a 64-63 victory at then-No. 11 South Carolina on Saturday.

According to ESPN Stats & Information research, LSU is the first team in SEC history to win consecutive games by exactly one point and against AP-ranked teams.
That's an incredible stat. How many tens of thousands of games have been played?

I'm not a huge LSU fan, but I was rooting for it in both of these games. Will it leap from zero votes to ranked? Idk, it still is only 14-12, 8th in SEC. Maybe a few votes after these 2 games, though. MM? -0-?
LSU fined for court storming vs. Kentucky, per SEC policy

The Southeastern Conference has fined LSU $100,000 in connection to fans running onto the court after the Tigers' victory over No. 17 Kentucky, the league announced Thursday.
I wonder how much security would cost to provide court storming prevention for every game?
Tyrell Ward's basket as time expired gave LSU a 75-74 win Wednesday night and prompted the court storming.

Safety risks associated with court storming have received more attention this season after Iowa superstar Caitlin Clark collided with a fan while exiting the court at Ohio State after the Buckeyes beat the Hawkeyes.
I love Caitlin, but search for my earlier post on this incident. The collision was 75% her fault.

I understand the NCAA's concern and fan exuberance. I'm glad I'm not deciding.

Top-10 prospect Derik Queen commits to home state Maryland

Top-10 prospect Derik Queen, the highest-ranked uncommitted senior, has committed to Maryland, giving the Terrapins their first five-star and top-10 pledge since 2018.

Queen chose the Terrapins over a final list that also included Indiana, Kansas and Houston.

"It's home," the Baltimore native told ESPN. "The fans have always been great to me. Everywhere I went they were on me. Being from the area, I also know a lot of students. There is playing time open in the frontcourt. I am friends with many of the other players on the roster and am very comfortable with them."

A 6-foot-10 center who plays at Montverde Academy (Florida), Queen is ranked No. 10 in the ESPN 100 for the 2024 class. He's the No. 2 player at his position, behind only Kansas-bound Flory Bidunga....

Queen is the second commitment for Kevin Willard in Maryland's 2024 class, joining four-star guard Malachi Palmer, who committed to the Terrapins last month. He could combine with former St. Frances Academy (Maryland) product Julian Reese, who is averaging 13.8 points and 10.0 rebounds this season in College Park and has one year of eligibility left.

With star guard Jahmir Young out of eligibility, Willard will need to hit the portal for a backcourt player -- and the Terps have been linked to former ESPN 100 prospect and Virginia Tech transfer Rodney Rice.
The Terps are back, baby! Also back:

How (#10) North Carolina and RJ Davis have found redemption this season

... THE STORY OF 2022-23 North Carolina, the first preseason No. 1 team to miss the NCAA tournament, is well-known at this point. The Tar Heels had made a surprising run as an 8-seed to the national championship game in 2022, and the expectations were raised entering last season. But they lost four games in a row in the opening month, then dropped five of six midway through conference play and never even made it to the NCAA tournament. At the end of the campaign, seven Tar Heels went into the transfer portal and starters Leaky Black and Pete Nance were out of eligibility....

The Tar Heels ran off a 10-game winning streak, not allowing a single opponent to score more than 70 points, beginning with that 81-69 victory over Oklahoma. Their defense has had some hiccups in the three weeks since the winning streak ended with a one-point loss at Georgia Tech, allowing each of their past six opponents to pass the 70-point mark -- resulting in a 3-3 record.
Ut-oh.
... As RJ Davis said, this is a team driven by victories, not stats.

"They came here to Carolina because they were chasing something. What that was, was winning."

Video at link - typical officiating when Alabama gets behind.

“emblematic of the angst with the refs was a play that could warrant a suspension for Alabama, yet it was Florida called for the foul.”

“Was a flagrant foul called on Wague? Of course not.
Did they even call a common foul on Wague? No, not at all.
There was a foul called,”
but it was against the Florida player/head shot victim who was lying on the floor.

I don't see Florida's Condon committing any foul.
... The Gators would go on to lose the game in overtime.
Did Bama get and make FTs on the play? Maybe it never should have gone to OT if the call was reversed and the flagrant foul called -0-?

I don't doubt that in any sport at any level there are referees that tend to favor certain teams. I don't doubt that Bammer has gotten some breaks. But it seems for Bammer to always get the favor in all sports takes a bit more conspiracy than I'm ready to go for.

It was a great day for the state of Alabama

Stop court storming.

Immediately deduct 10 points from offending team.

Or arrest the offenders for trespassing.

Something needs to be done

1. That's a crazy solution.
2. It would be an invitation for visiting team provocateurs.
Or arrest the offenders for trespassing.
Maybe by video ID. Grabbing people in real time when there are 1000 folks that disagree is an Rx for a melee and injuries.
Something needs to be done
They fine schools:
100K
250K
500K
Beyond that -0-? As I posted:
I understand the NCAA's concern and fan exuberance. I'm glad I'm not deciding.
One idea might be too go with the flow - allow it but encourage and manage for it to happen more calmly

“What to do about court stormings in college basketball”
Thanks.

Ah, the fines I listed are just SEC. My bad, I thought they were NCAA.
Better escorting of teams from the arena is a minimum. That would take fewer security than trying to defend the entire floor. Great minds . . .

Any football players and wrestlers looking for part time work?
Banning court stormers from future games sounds viable. Alternatively:
... Storm the court and you lose student ticket privileges, period. There could be no worse punishment than to having to sit with the grown-ups.
Hah!
It's hard to restrict joy.
Did you ever storm a court? I didn't, but I almost exclusively attended smaller crowd Lady Griz games (they were better than the men, even ranked a couple of years). I think I could have walked out and fist bumped players, I think. I don't remember any cautions against storming and security/cops were minimal.
