C'Mon Kamala!

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Swifties are on it:
The “Shake It Off” singer’s loyal fanbase has independently started an X account, “Swifties for Harris,” and it’s garnered almost 33,000 followers as of July 23. The bio describes that group as a “Coalition of Swifties ready to mobilize Taylor Swift fans to help get Democratic candidates elected up & down the ballot! (Not affiliated with Taylor Swift).” But we all know they are hoping Swift will step into the political fray and endorse Kamala Harris.

Prediction: if Harris wins the election, Republicans are going to run with the "illegitimate because she was 'anointed' and not chosen in a primary" complaint. Or some variation of that
LOL

Will that be before or after they try to get her disqualified for not being a natural born citizen?
All over Fox News it's "Harris anointed", "Harris coronation", "Biden forced out" etc. etc. At least we know what we're gonna hear parroted.
AFAIK the parties can run their nominations any way they want. It used to all be done in smoke-filled backrooms. That changed because their rules changed, not because of any law. Recently, the 2016 Dem primaries were manipulated to favor Hillary and screw Bernie! Then, TRE45QN and MAGA were messing with the GQP debates and late primaries. Now, Joe released his delegates by withdrawing. If a majority exercise their freedom and choose Kamala that's more transparent than the histories of either party.

It won't happen, but Kamala could really mess with the RepuQs by picking Liz Cheney, Jeff Flake or Adam Kinzinger as a running mate

As I said:
Trump Tries to Flip the Script on Democracy After Biden’s Withdrawal

... In a series of statements and social media posts, Republicans have argued that Democrats, by pressuring Biden to quit, have “disenfranchised” the 14 million people who voted for him in the party primaries.

The accusation isn’t based on any party rule or supposed legal violation. Instead, it is the Republicans’ latest attempt to muddy the waters on an issue that helped Democrats win key races two years ago. Since Trump’s attempt to overturn his defeat in 2020, which led to the Jan. 6 riot and criminal charges against the former president, Democrats have cast Republicans as a threat to democratic norms....

The two most senior Republican congressional leaders — House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana and Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky — echoed the claim.

“Having invalidated the votes of more than 14 million Americans who selected Joe Biden to be the Democrat nominee for president, the self-proclaimed ‘party of democracy,’ has proven exactly the opposite,” Johnson said. McConnell, the Republican minority leader in the Senate, said Democrats were “trying to upend the expressed will” of primary voters.
  Idiots and liars.
There is nothing in Biden’s withdrawal or his endorsement of Harris that appears to violate any party or election rules. Under party rules, when a candidate withdraws after the primary elections but before officially securing the nomination, delegates are free to vote for another candidate of their choosing. Republican Party rules outline a similar process.

Democrats and voting rights experts dismissed the criticism as a specious, and argued that Republicans lacked credibility on the subject.

On Monday, Alex Floyd, a spokesperson for the Democratic National Committee, said it was Trump who was trafficking in “anti-democratic rhetoric as part of his campaign,” adding that the former president “himself inspired a violent insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021.”
:---P
... A recent Washington Post poll found that voters in six battleground states were more likely to trust Trump than Biden to handle threats to democracy....
:wtf: :angry-banghead:
The Republican attempts to seize on that argument as their own, democracy activists say, is part of a broader, yearslong effort to erode trust in the electoral process.

“I see this all as just a continued effort to try to cast doubt on our elections, to try to undermine pro-democracy candidates,” said Joanna Lydgate, CEO of the States United Democracy Center.

They're so happy to try and flip the script and hope everyone forgets the violence of Jan 6, much like they're hoping everyone develops amnesia on what a trump presidency is really like.

There's a lot of MAGAt lawyers sharpening their knives getting ready to file frivolous lawsuits.

Counter argument to Johnson's "they are anti democratic/disinfranchising their voters" pearl clutching: Voters have the option to NOT vote for Harris in the presidential election.

Counter argument 2: Trump won the election due to the electoral vote win but lost the popular vote in 2016. Does this invalidate the vote of the majority of Americans who preferred Clinton?

Wait she was still born on US soil though right? That makes her a US citizen according to the law regardless of her parents citizenship/residency status. That whole argument is moot.

Good ad.

It's funny, that's something that struck me as a fundamental difference between dems and trump. She got permission. Trump would just steal it and wait for a cease and desist as he has many times.

If they actually do debates and they have entrance music, I vote Kamela chooses "Mean"
and i can see you years from now in a bar
talking over a football game
with that same big mouth opinion
but nobody is listening
washed up and ranting about
the same old bitter things
drunk and grumbling on about
how i cant sing
but all you are is mean
all you are is mean
and a liar
and pathetic
and alone in life
and mean

Polls are crude measuring tools, but better than nothing. I think it's good that Kamela's getting a bump. But here's what I think is really good: pick any poll you like and it shows the race is competitive - more so than when Joe was in it, and Kamela's got the momentum and a bunch of newly-enthusiastic voters, who only have to maintain that enthusiasm for 3 months, meanwhile the newly-energized ground game is following the Obama pattern. Glum cynical politically dour me is even enthusiastic.

FTR, it was pro-Palestinian hecklers. She has a strong point, they have no choice other than not voting and letting the rest of us decide the election. I sympathize with them, but not to the point of supporting heckling Kamala/Tim.

New York Times:
In Detroit, Harris Confronts Divisions Roiling Democrats Over Gaza War

Before Vice President Kamala Harris confronted pro-Palestinian and anti-Gaza-war protesters on Wednesday at a campaign rally in Detroit, she faced demands from the leaders of a group that has mobilized voters to protest the U.S. government’s support for Israel....

Ms. Harris has emerged as a more empathetic voice in the administration, elevating the plight of innocent Palestinians who have been killed, starved and displaced in Israel’s war against Hamas. And while she has reiterated the United States’ support for Israel’s right to defend itself, she has issued the most forceful condemnation of some of Israel’s tactics. But crucial Democratic voting blocs who oppose the war — including Arab Americans in battleground states — have demanded more action, particularly for the United States to stop supplying Israel with weapons that have been used to kill scores of civilians.

In addition to an arms embargo on Israel, the Uncommitted leaders have asked for convention speaking roles for a representative of their group and a Palestinian pediatrician....

Later, as Ms. Harris spoke in front of a raucous crowd that her campaign estimated at about 15,000 people at an airport hangar in Detroit, a small group of pro-Palestinian protesters shouted to interrupt her.

“Kamala, Kamala, you can’t hide,” they chanted. “We won’t vote for genocide.”

At first, Ms. Harris brushed them off, suggesting the hecklers were evidence of democracy in action. Her supporters tried to drown them out with chants of their own.

But the protesters were not ushered out quickly, and the chants continued. Eventually, the exasperated vice president made her feelings clear.

“If you want Donald Trump to win, then say that,” Ms. Harris said. “Otherwise, I am speaking.”

The crowded roared its approval. The sharp retort — or Ms. Harris’s staffers — clearly did the job, as the chants soon died down.

During a small news conference at a coffee shop in suburban Dearborn earlier in the afternoon, Mr. Alawieh practically begged for Ms. Harris to not put Arab American voters in the position to help Mr. Trump get elected.

“It’s as important as ever to beat back Donald Trump’s hurtful, destructive agenda and the plans that he has to accelerate the genocide against Palestinians in Gaza,” he said.
