Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

If these assholes want a strongman daddy figure to order them around and tell them what to do, there are communities and bars where they can find one instead of subjecting the whole country to their fantasy.

Oklahoma now requires all public schools to teach from the Bible as a 'historical' document

... "Adherence to this mandate is compulsory. Further instructions for monitoring and reporting on this implementation for the 2024/25 school year will be forthcoming," he added. "Immediate and strict compliance is expected."

This is merely the latest ideological move by Walters in his efforts to infuse extremist politics with public education in the Sooner State. Earlier this year, he appointed far-right social media influencer Chaya Raichik — who runs the LibsofTikTok family of social media accounts — to the Department of Education Library Media Advisory Committee. This gave Raichik an availability to influence what educational materials will be available to Oklahoma's public school students.

Raichik's appointment came despite her siccing a mob of her supporters on a Tulsa-area elementary school librarian, which resulted in six consecutive days of bomb threats being called into the school. After a critic called her a "stochastic terrorist" — which is defined by someone whose words or actions inspires acts of terrorism — Raichik boasted about it in an interview, saying it made her "feel really important."...

Opinion
The MAGA principle tested: Trump grows "more and more radical with each passing day"

Image

The American people and the world know a great deal about Donald Trump. Even though he is an expert and compulsive liar, he is candid and transparent in his behavior and thinking in many ways. If he takes over in 2025 and becomes the country’s first dictator, the American people and their elites cannot say that they were surprised. When the authoritarian speaks always be sure to believe him or her. It is essential for your survival.

(too frightening and powerful throughout to excerpt further)

... Donald Trump’s dictator’s playbook is public and available for all to see. History is warning us. An American Reich will not be glorious. It will be destruction, not just for those who are targeted as the enemy Other but for its own MAGA and other supporters as well. History does not repeat itself, but it sure does rhyme — and its rhymes in America in this moment of great uncertainty and worsening democracy crisis are sickening, disorienting, and almost debilitating. The American people only have about three months left to reorient themselves and to rise to the demands of history on Election Day by defeating Donald Trump and the MAGAfied Republican Party.
It would be good to be older :problem: :(

Gratified to see it.

Bring it on!

Educators in Oklahoma are refusing a state order to incorporate the Bible into their lesson plans, setting up an inevitable showdown with the start of the school year just weeks away.

State Superintendent Ryan Walters last week released guidelines to schools for how they should be integrating the Bible into classrooms, saying educators who are against the initiative “will comply, and I will use every means to make sure of it.”

The message from some schools in the state: Bring it on.

“I suspect that the first thing that will happen is he will target a specific school district or multiple school districts who he believes are not complying with his directive, those school districts will then have to make a choice as to whether to bend his whim or to sue,” said Rob Miller, superintendent of Bixby Public Schools.

“And I can tell you that if Bixby was one of those schools that he selected to come after, we would file a lawsuit,” Miller told The Hill.

Walters’s guidance, which follows a June announcement of the mandatory biblical curricula for grades 5 through 12, says that lessons on the Christian text should emphasize its historical context, literary significance and artistic and musical influence. The guidance also says a physical copy of the book should be in every classroom, along with copies of the Ten Commandments, the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.

“To date, schools have been advised by legal counsel (School Board Association and State Attorney General) to not follow the guidance because it goes against current Oklahoma State Law,” said Lee Northcutt, superintendent of Caddo Public Schools, in an email.

Ohio Sheriff Defends Wanting Kamala Harris Supporter Addresses
In a Facebook post, Bruce Zuchowski said his comments were "misinterpreted," but added, chillingly, "With elections, there are consequences."

An Ohio sheriff whose request on social media for the addresses of Kamala Harris supporters is defending his post after it received nationwide attention and provoked accusations of voter intimidation.

Portage County Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski responded Wednesday to the outcry over his Facebook post last Friday in which he referred to the Democratic presidential nominee as a “Laughing Hyena” and suggested that people “write down all the addresses of the people who had her signs in their yards!”

Zuchowski, who is running for reelection, also referred to immigrants as “Illegal human ‘Locust’ [sic]” and said that when they “need places to live...We’ll already have the addresses of the their New families...who supported their arrival!”

... One GOP county commissioner even resigned from the county’s Republican Central Committee, saying in a Facebook video that “this is not the leadership I want to be part of.”

In interviews, local residents said they felt targeted by their sheriff and felt they wouldn’t be able to rely on him to protect them if they needed help....

Image

While Zuchowski defended his initial Facebook post by citing his First Amendment right to free speech, the ACLU of Ohio characterized his remarks as “an impermissible, unconstitutional threat against Portage County residents who wish to engage in protected First Amendment activity.”

The organization said it has received calls from citizens, many of whom “have reasonably understood his posts to be a threat of governmental action to punish them for their expressed political beliefs and have been coerced to take down or refrain from putting up a yard sign.”

The ACLU called on Zuchowski to “follow the law – as is his duty as an elected official and his role as sheriff.”...

Department won't provide election security after sheriff's posts about Harris yard signs

... In a statement on the Portage County Democrats' Facebook page, county board of elections chair Randi Clites said members voted 3-1 Friday to remove the sheriff's department from providing security during in-person absentee voting.

Clites cited public comments indicating “perceived intimidation by our sheriff against certain voters” and the need to “make sure every voter in Portage County feels safe casting their ballot for any candidate they choose.”...

Yes on 4 Florida

The only way to stop Florida's extreme abortion ban is to vote YES ON 4. The ban puts politicians in charge of our healthcare and puts women’s lives at risk. Voting YES gives women and doctors the freedom to make the healthcare decisions that are right for them and gets government out of the way.

A YES vote ends the ban and gets the government out of our healthcare decisions. A NO vote keeps the government ban and puts women’s lives at risk.
Fascist DerSantis and the worst Health Department Director in the nation, Joseph Ladapo, strike again:
Ron DeSantis Sends Ominous Threat To TV Station That Aired Pro-Choice Ad
The DeSantis administration continued its full-court press against Florida's ballot measure on abortion rights, just weeks away from the election.

... DeSantis’ administration is threatening to bring criminal charges against a local news channel that aired an advertisement in support of the abortion rights measure, Amendment 4, which would overturn DeSantis’ six-week abortion ban and restore access to the procedure until fetal viability.

The Florida governor has spent substantial amounts of taxpayer money to fight Amendment 4, including by weaponizing a nonpartisan government agency to spread misinformation and launching an unprecedented investigation into petition signatures already verified by the state, alleging a need to combat voter fraud.

Last week, Florida’s Department of Health sent a letter to a local NBC affiliate suggesting that an ad in support of Amendment 4 violates the state’s so-called “sanitary nuisance” law. The letter, first reported by journalist Jason Garcia, claims that the news channel may be committing a second-degree misdemeanor, and that its employees could be penalized with a 60-day jail sentence....

Thousands rally at Christian nationalist event in DC to ‘turn hearts back to God’
Jenny Donnelly, leader of anti-trans Don’t Mess With Our Kids, bills first pre-election event as rallying call for mothers

Tens of thousands of Christians poured onto the National Mall on Saturday to atone, pray and take a stand for America – which, in their view, has been poisoned by secularism and must be ruled instead by a Christian god.

Summoned to Washington DC by the multilevel marketing professional-turned-Christian “apostle” Jenny Donnelly and the anti-LGBTQ+ celebrity pastor Lou Engle, they streamed onto the lawn holding blue and pink banners emblazoned with the hashtag #DontMessWithOurKids – a nod to the myth that children are being indoctrinated into adopting gay and transgender identities.

... The rally is a collaboration organized by multiple far-right Christian leaders affiliated with the New Apostolic Reformation, a movement on the political far right that seeks to establish long-term Christian dominion over government and society as well as get Trump a second presidency in November.

Matthew Taylor, a senior scholar at the Institute for Islamic, Christian and Jewish Studies, said the effort was aimed at “creating a network – a mass of people – who see it as their spiritual mission to take over Washington DC”.
:puke-left: :obscene-birdiered:
... The decentralized organizing model carries echoes of Donnelly’s previous life: before reinventing herself as a leader in the New Apostolic Reformation, Donnelly earned millions through the multilevel marketing company AdvoCare, which collapsed after settling with the Federal Trade Commission for $150m in a lawsuit alleging the company was an illegal pyramid scheme....
Great role model for "Our Kids"

A lot of them do more talking about flaunting than actual flaunting, and the flaunting they do often isn't all that consequential. When the flaunting gets serious we still need an aggressive DoJ or state AG willing to take on what can be murky law. However, it sometimes happens. Obama's DoJ fish-slapped and stomped AZ racist Joe Arpaio, who then lost his next election.

Opinion: Trump concocts a racist, dystopian version of America only he can save us from
Trump's sorry he's going have to round up legal migrants and destroy their lives in order to fix the fake problem he opportunistically dredged out of his spider-filled brain.

... But there is another path.

If Trump loses, he and his racist imaginings are sent packing. The false, fear-filled version of America he spun out of whole cloth goes poof. And then, maybe, reality can make a comeback. Maybe the fever dreams can break.

Maybe, at last, we can Make Stupidity Embarrassing Again.

I don't want to be an ostrich or Pollyanna, but it is entirely possible that MAGA will wither after a resounding defeat. In 2020, the "stollen" story was new and Trump was so infallible he couldn't have been beaten fairly. And he's still beating that drum, but since that time a lot of what he's touched has turned to shit. And a lot of his acolytes are losing - in court and in elections. And he's four years older and noticeably weaker. So they'll try to tamper with the election, but the idea of overturning it once done has already been tried with abysmal failure. 2028 is not feasible for them. After a lot of blather, swagger, and bloviating, they could just sorta die away.

I meant to change the subject, fixed now.

Donald Trump’s ‘Opposite Of A Nazi’ Claim Triggers Scathingly Awkward Flashback

If you're telling people, "I’m not a Nazi. I’m the opposite of a Nazi,” it's a pretty safe bet that you're a Nazi.
... Critics, however, pointed out how now-GOP vice presidential candidate Vance warned in 2016 that Trump, whose authoritarian rhetoric has escalated in recent weeks, could one day become “America’s Hitler.”

“I go back and forth between thinking Trump is a cynical asshole like Nixon who wouldn’t be that bad (and might even prove useful) or that he’s America’s Hitler,” Vance wrote at the time in a private message to a former Yale Law School roommate, the now-Democratic Georgia state Sen. Josh McLaurin.
:---P

Great minds . . .
If your closing argument is “I’m the opposite of a Nazi” … you have some serious issues.
