Two drivers fatally shoot each other after road rage incident in Highland

Two drivers are dead after an apparent case of road rage in Highland which led to a gunfight - even as one had two young children in his car....

It started Saturday just before 8 p.m. on the 210 Freeway in Highland. A motorcyclist, 38-year-old Jonathan McConnell of Corona, was lane splitting, and clipped a sedan driven by 37-year-old Aaron Harris of Highland, officials say.

Instead of pulling to the side of the freeway, deputies say the motorcyclist left the scene, and drove to the parking lot of Joy's Lounge on Baseline Avenue in Highland.

The sedan driver, Harris, pursued the motorcyclist to the parking lot. He had his two children in the car with him ages 2 and 5.

"When they arrived in that parking lot, the man in the sedan began yelling at the motorcyclist," said Rodriguez. "They became confrontational. They were both armed, and a shooting occurred, and the two of them both ended up deceased at the end of the night."

Deputies said another man in front of the restaurant was wounded on his hand. The two small children in the backseat of the sedan were unharmed....

A recent data analysis found that California is the worst state for road rage and confrontational drivers.

US judge tosses machine gun possession case, calls ban unconstitutional

A federal judge has dismissed charges against a Kansas man for possessing a machine gun, saying prosecutors failed to establish that a federal ban on owning such weapons is constitutional.

The decision by U.S. District Judge John Broomes in Wichita on Wednesday appeared to mark the first time a court has held that banning machine guns is unconstitutional after the conservative-majority U.S. Supreme Court in 2022 issued a landmark ruling that expanded gun rights....

Colorado teen shot in the face by town councilman after going to home to ask permission to take homecoming photos
A woman who lives at the home thought trespassers were on her property, authorities said. Her boyfriend was arrested in connection with the shooting.

... "They returned to their car and began writing a note to the homeowner, asking permission to use their property to take pictures," authorities said. "While they were doing this, a man they had never seen before pulled up next to them, exited the truck he was driving, and fired a round through the windshield, striking the 17-year-old driver in the face."

A sheriff's office spokesperson told KUSA that the teen's intention did not seem "malicious or criminal."

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by the station, one of the teens reported hearing Metz say "Oh s---, my gun just went off" after the shooting. Metz tried to help the 17-year-old, but his friend pushed him away, the affidavit says

Accident or not the asshole wrecked his own life and that of an innocent teen all because he approached an unclear and in reality harmless situation with a gun drawn.

Ralph Paul Yarl, the Black teenager who was shot by a homeowner after having rung the wrong doorbell, was motionless and covered in blood when James Lynch found him unconscious.....

Andrew Lester dies while awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty in shooting of teen Ralph Yarl

Andrew Lester, the Kansas City man who pleaded guilty to felony assault in the second degree for the shooting of Ralph Yarl, has died while awaiting sentencing, Clay County Prosecuting Attorney Zachary Thompson announced on Wednesday....

Lester, 86, was set to go on trial this week for shooting Yarl, a Black teenager who mistakenly knocked on his door, but ahead of the trial, Lester entered a guilty plea on Friday for felony assault in the second degree.

He was expected to be sentenced in this case during a hearing on March 7.... Lester was initially charged with one count of felony assault in the first-degree and one count of armed criminal action, also a felony, in the shooting of Yarl, who mistakenly went to Lester's Kansas City home after arriving at the wrong address to pick up his twin brothers from a play date on April 13, 2023.

Lester, who is white, shot Yarl in the head and right arm, saying he believed someone was trying to break into his house, according to a probable cause statement obtained by ABC News....

Yarl was 16 at the time of the shooting and suffered a traumatic brain injury, according to his family....

"About two years ago, we knew Mr. Lester was guilty," Yarl's mother Cleo Nagbe told Davis on Friday. "We let him do what he wanted to do and waited two years after for him to show up and say, 'I'm going to plead guilty to the lesser of the charges.' So we're sick of this. So let's just move on and give this kid a chance to move on with his life and live on as a regular kid."

... "He points [the gun] at me … so I kinda, like, brace and I turn my head," Yarl told Roberts. "Then it happened. And then I'm on the ground ... and then I fall on the glass. The shattered glass. And then before I know it I'm running away shouting, 'Help me, help me.'"
