2024 Elections

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Biden's team originally wanted those rules for a reason.....he's going to spew more lies that can be intelligently debunked regardless.
Biden needed them. He got befuddled enough without interruptions and cheering. Kamala not so much, I guess.

Why Harris wants to unmute Trump

As you say  However:
... Trump’s camp pushed back, although the ex-president on Monday suggested he’d be quite happy to lose the mute button. And on Tuesday afternoon, Trump said on social media that he’d reached an agreement with the Democrats to implement the original rules of the debate agreed upon with Biden before he pulled out of the race. That means silenced mics and no studio audience, according to a personal familiar with the matter. CNN has contacted the Harris campaign for comment....
If DonOLD is telling the truth - which is always iffy - good. Leaving aside who is advantaged, I prefer no interrupting and no risk of a biased audience.
Good thing I hedged my bets.

Trump Suggests Debate Rules Are Set. Harris’ Team Says Otherwise.

Hey everybody, con fight:
Top Donor Slams Trump for Embracing ‘Anti-Vax Kook’ RFK Jr.

At least one deep-pocketed Republican donor is angry Donald Trump has welcomed Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard aboard the MAGA train.

Eric Levine, a former backer of Nikki Haley who said this spring he’d “reluctantly” vote for Trump, assailed the former president for embracing the pair of “fringe” politicians in an email made public Wednesday.

In a subhead of his written rant, Levine questioned if Trump is “trying to lose.”

“It is hard to imagine a more self-destructive announcement,” Levine wrote of the embracing of Kennedy’s endorsement, reported Jewish Insider.

Levine didn’t stop there. He went on to describe the Kennedy scion as an “anti-vax kook” who goes searching for “conspiracies behind every tree and under every bed.”

On Gabbard, Levine indicated he was in the shock that the “former vice-chair of the DNC and co-chair of the 2016 Bernie Sanders for President campaign” now had a spot on Trump’s tentative transition team.

“There is something terribly wrong with this picture,” he said....

Yeah, ridiculing a 17-year old from 10 years ago will really ingratiate him to women voters as well as men voters who aren't Neanderthals.
Actually, in retrospect, she did pretty well with a stupid question based on a false premise. Not that she actually said anything, but it reminds me of way back when I was in Toastmaster's club. There was a segment where one member would start a topic and call on somebody at random to continue the speech. Much of the time the original was something most people wouldn't know anything about. So if the original speaker said, "I read a report that fleas on large dogs are bigger than fleas on small dogs - do you agree", I would say "I don't know anything about the size of fleas related to the size of dogs, but I do know something about flea prevention in dogs of all sizes..."

Opinion - If Trump loses, expect a Republican civil war

... But Trump can never lose! So, if he does, expect a 2020 post-election replay with much ranting, raving and contrived evidence. Team Trump will launch accusations of a corrupt, stolen election, cheating, judicial weaponization, illegal voters, foreign interference and rigged voting machines, resulting in legal challenges perhaps all the way to the Supreme Court. Our enemies will be watching for signs of electoral instability, democratic unrest and perhaps even a national security crisis.

That aside, a Trump loss inevitably means an internal civil war within the Republican Party. I believe a “war” is inevitable between the all-powerful Trump forces and those who want to move on from the Trump era and win the White House in 2028 without any Trump family members on the ticket.

Like all civil wars, this one could be brutal, because the GOP opposition forces see in Trumpism a political dead-end with a shrinking voter base. I publicly left the Republican Party Jan. 2021 thanks to Trump’s toxic brand. Today, identifying as a Republican is not about conservative governing principles but automatic loyalty to Trump, with his MAGA troops in control of the party machinery from top to bottom....

To offer an optimistically alternate possibility, it may be that when Trump loses this time MAGAT land will disintegrate like the Wicked Witch. Sure, Trump has his true believers, but I think a lot of his "supporters" are there only because of the out-sized power he has in the party. He's been able to maintain that for the past 4 years at least in part because he had 2024. There will be no more tomorrows, and he'll be totally without real power other than to rabble the rousers. Can't help thinking there are a lot of people who may be "for" him today, but would be really happy if he'd just go away. Even toadies like Lightloafer Lindsay would be better off.

Trump Blows Up J.D. Vance’s Pathetic Arlington Cemetery Defense
 Nothing is honest:
Fact check: New Trump ad uses edited quote to attack nonexistent Harris immigration proposal

A new television ad from former President Donald Trump’s campaign piles deception upon deception to attack Vice President Kamala Harris on immigration. The ad uses an edited quote to attack Harris over a supposed proposal that she hasn’t actually made....

Facts First: The ad’s claims are false. Harris has not made any promise to grant legal status to all of the migrants who have crossed the border during her vice presidency. Though she has expressed support for a pathway to citizenship for some unspecified group of undocumented people, she has never said that recent migrants should be included. And Harris’ name does not appear in the actual Center for Immigration Studies quote about the likely cost of “amnesty” to Social Security; the center says it hasn’t analyzed a specific 2024 amnesty proposal from Harris because it hasn’t seen her make a specific proposal.

There are other problems with the ad, too.

Harris was never “border czar.” Rather, she was given a diplomatic role focused on addressing the “root causes” of migration from three Central American countries, not put in charge of border security. You can read a longer fact-check of that claim here.

And the ad’s claim that 10 million migrants have been “allowed in” during Harris’ vice presidency is an exaggeration. Though there have been roughly 10 million official border “encounters” with migrants nationwide during the Biden-Harris administration, that “encounters” figure includes people who were rapidly kicked out of the country. It also counts each attempt at entry by an individual who tried more than once....

John Bolton airing TV ad attacking Angela Alsobrooks

Image

The ad looks like any political TV attack ad: Gray, grainy images. Big, bold words that convey negative information. Pictures of scary, rogue international leaders.

The ad, which began airing this week, targets Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate. But it doesn’t come from Alsobrooks’ Republican opponent, former Gov. Larry Hogan.

Instead, it’s paid for by the John Bolton PAC, the political action committee of John Bolton, former President Donald Trump’s one-time national security adviser, and the U.S. ambassador to the U.N. under former President George W. Bush....

GOP network props up liberal third-party candidates in key states, hoping to siphon off Harris votes

... Trump has called (Cornel) West “one of my favorite candidates.” Another is Green Party candidate Jill Stein. He favors both for the same reason. “I like her very much. You know why? She takes 100% from them. He takes 100%.”

Democrats are exploring ways to lift Randall Terry, an anti-abortion presidential candidate for the Constitution Party, believing he could draw voters from Trump.

But the GOP effort appears to be more far-reaching. And after years of Trump accusing Democrats of “rigging” elections, it is his allies who are now mounting a sprawling and at times deceptive campaign to tilt the vote in his favor....
:puke-left: :obscene-birdiered:

I'm not too worried here. West and Stein were each polling at less than 1% before Kennedy dropped out, while the Libertarian was getting 1%.
