Ex President* Trump

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Distributor boycott broken!!!
Trump film 'The Apprentice' finds distributor and will open before the election
After struggling to drum up interest following its Cannes Film Festival premiere, “The Apprentice,” starring Sebastian Stan as a young Donald Trump, has found a distributor that plans to release the film shortly before the election in November

... Briarcliff Entertainment will release “The Apprentice” on Oct. 11 in U.S. and Canadian theaters, just weeks before Americans cast their ballots on Nov. 5.

Director Ali Abbasi, the Danish Iranian filmmaker, had prioritized getting “The Apprentice” into theaters before voters head to the polls. After larger studios and film distributors opted not to bid on the film, Abbasi complained in early June on X that “for some reason certain power people in your country don’t want you to see it!!!”

Steven Cheung, communications director for the Trump campaign, in a statement Friday called the film's release “election interference by Hollywood elites right before November.”...

Part of what dampened interest in “The Apprentice” was the potential threat of legal action. After its Cannes premiere in May, Cheung called the movie “pure fiction” and said the Trump team would file a lawsuit “to address the blatantly false assertions from these pretend filmmakers.”
:crybaby: Fascist TRE45QN detests free speech.
... Briarcliff Entertainment has released films including the 2022 documentary “Gabby Giffords Won't Back Down” and the Liam Neeson thriller “Memory.” The indie distributor is run by Tom Ortenberg, who at Lionsgate helped released Michael Moore's “Fahrenheit 9/11” and as chief executive of Open Road backed the best picture Oscar winner “Spotlight.”

The First Clip Of The Controversial Movie "The Apprentice" Is Now Out, And Sebastian Stan's Trump Wig Is A Sight To Behold

... The official description for the movie reads, "A young Donald Trump (Sebastian Stan), eager to make his name as a hungry scion of a wealthy family in 1970s New York, comes under the spell of Roy Cohn (Jeremy Strong), the cutthroat attorney who would help create the Donald Trump we know today. Cohn sees in Trump the perfect protégé — someone with raw ambition, a hunger for success, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to win."

If you don't know who Roy Cohn is, you can read more about him here. As the BBC put it, "Cohn is best known now for the lessons he taught Trump, but even before that he was an outsized figure running through US politics and culture. To note his most flagrant hypocrisy, Cohn was a gay man who persecuted other gay people out of their government jobs during what became known as the Lavender Scare of the 1950s. Throughout his life, he bullied people and tried to bully facts." He is also depicted in the play and movie Angels in America and served as the inspiration for Mr. Burns in The Simpsons.
 I never knew that.
Already you might think that this sounds a little bit too laden with praise for a biopic about a rapist, but I digress. The first clip from the movie has now been released, showing Jeremy's Roy attempting to coach Sebastian's Trump through a phone call with a journalist.

The Apprentice | Clip | Exclusively in Theaters October 11

... The Apprentice has generally received positive reviews, and stands at 73% on Rotten Tomatoes. One reviewer for TheWrap called it a "Frankenstein tale in which the mad doctor creates a monster and then loses control of it."

... Trump's campaign has threatened legal action over the movie, which features a scene in which he rapes his then-wife Ivana, played by Maria Bakalova (Ivana accused Trump of rape in her divorce deposition). Indeed, the film struggled to find a buyer and is currently holding a Kickstarter for an expanded theatrical run....
Maria Valcheva Bakalova (/bəˈkɑːlɒvə/ bə-KAH-lo-və; born 4 June 1996) is a Bulgarian actress. Bakalova rose to prominence after starring in the 2020 mockumentary film Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. Her performance in the film earned her various accolades, including a Critics' Choice Award, in addition to nominations for an Academy Award and a BAFTA Award.

... The film was lauded as "the most impactful piece of political entertainment" in the weeks leading up to the 2020 United States presidential election as a scene in which Rudy Giuliani appears to put his hands down his trousers while reclining on a bed in the presence of Bakalova's character garnered significant media attention....
 That was brilliant.

Ditto. I'd like to buy a ticket since they tried to blackball it, but I'm not so interested in a documentary about Dolt .45 and Mr Burns unless it's really well made.

I think I'd prefer a mockumentary, I've had enough of real life DonOld to last three lifetimes.

You have a point.

This summary of one caught my eye:
The Apprentice fails to justify following Donald Trump around for two hours.
Maybe I'll buy a ticket online and not go.

I'm so sick of seeing Trump everywhere, even including places he gets trashed or ridiculed. The only thing I want to see about Trump is people pissing on his grave.

Well, walking away is a little different from "walking out" but what's with all the jackets and hats? Are we sure this is current and real?
