2024 Elections

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Interesting:

New Yahoo News/YouGov poll: 8% of Americans say Taylor Swift’s endorsement makes them more likely to vote for Kamala Harris

Maybe minimal impact on the election, but good on her for countering the misinfo TRE45QN was spreading about her support. She'll still sell out arenas, but the kids of Dem parents might have an easier time getting tix if MAGAt dads are boycotting. Win-win.

I think endorsements are more to build support, enthusiasm and voting likelihood. I woudn't think there are many Trumpers who would now say, "Oh (superstar) is voting for Harris, so I'll flip." She, and others, are good for those who might not have voted out of lack of enthusiasm, and probably some of the double-haters.

The article says something similar.

Colbert gave AOC a shirt like this:

 Made me curious about the original phrase:
balls to the wall / balls out

The phrase balls to the wall refers to an all-out, maximum effort. The metaphor underlying this meaning isn’t clear until you understand that it got its start in the U.S. Air Force. The balls in question are the round caps on the throttle of many aircraft, and when they are pushed all the way forward, close to the front wall of the cockpit, the aircraft is generating maximum thrust....
Cool 8-)

A plan McConnell called "beyond stupid." You know things are bad when Mitch McConnell, ol' "my job is to make Obama a one-term President", is the voice of reason.

How many 22-year-old new grads can say they played an important role in the election of a Gov and POTUS?

House votes down Speaker Johnson's funding plan as shutdown deadline approaches

The House on Wednesday voted down Speaker Mike Johnson's government funding plan with 14 Republicans voting against it and two others voting present.

The measure failed by a 202-222-2 margin. Three Democrats voted for the bill....

Johnson's measure would have funded the government for six months but also included the SAVE Act, a bill backed by GOP leadership and former President Donald Trump that would require individuals to provide proof of U.S. citizenship to vote. Democrats said the legislation is a non-starter, noting it is already illegal for non-citizens to cast a ballot in federal elections....

So here's some questions for you. Which party has a long and continuing union-busting history and wants to kick the teeth out of the NLRB?

Which party has generally supported unions and has at least one president who joined union members in the line?

Which presidential candidate does the majority of teamsters support?

Idiots.

"Data scientist who correctly predicted 2020 election now betting on 'landslide' Harris win"
The most hotly contested battleground states — which include Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — will ultimately decide which candidate crosses the 270-vote threshold. Miller is predicting a clean sweep for Harris in all of them.

“We’re talking about a blowout where Harris gets over 400 electoral votes and wins Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and every other swing state," he said

I don't know what those who know what they're talking about think, but I'm pretty sure it will make the margin a lot lower. Look at Iowa, and they don't even have cat stew.
