I don't think there's anything left that can't be offensive to somebody anymore.
This Vermont ski resort is changing its name in the interest of mental health

A small ski area in Vermont has announced that it's retiring its name, Suicide Six, this summer amid growing concerns about the insensitive nature of the historical name.

The resort said on its website on Tuesday that it shares those concerns and “embraces the increasing awareness surrounding mental health.”

“The feelings that the word ‘suicide’ evokes can have a significant impact on many in our community,” the resort statement said.

The resort's website said the name originally came after the man who built one of the runs on Hill No. 6 joked that skiing the steep trail would be suicide....
Idk about affecting potential suicides, but I can see that it was upsetting to the friends and family of those that suicided.

Sic 'em, O Really. ;)

The Oakland Athletics proposed new stadium has a rather blah name: Howard Terminal. I *think* it is soon to get the thumbs up or down from the influential BCDC entity (Bay Conservation and Development Commission).

Stay tuned.

Turns out the BCDC is currently meeting.

So far it looks like a go for the Howard Terminal ballpark.

Just hope they change the name, although that's not a deal-killer.

Update: final vote is 23 yes, 2 no.

So it looks like the Athletics will be getting their new ballpark.

Yeah, I know it's arcane that this has all hinged on the BCDC, but then this is California, after all.

dig the name, but yes maybe a different logo!
4 posts and gone, what's up with that?

How butthurt do you have to be to get in a fight after the mascot has been changed?

Sheesh, it's just high school sports teams. Oh well, if there was any doubt it's now certain that the non-Native American name will be retained. Smart parent.

Update

This doesn't appear to be anything more than someone in favor of changing the logo being blocked from exiting the stage by a racist Connecticut asshole and getting punched by the racist Connecticut asshole

Not much of an altercation. Might have been easier just to lay their dicks out on the table.

Maybe they could change their logo to this - at least as long as "tomahawk steak" is allowed and doesn't turn into "steak with bone that is similar to primitive axe."

Your 2nd link:
... Board of Education member Jenn Jennings spoke during Finocchiaro’s hearing but used her remarks as much to criticize (Board of Education member) McFall as to defend Finocchiaro. She criticized what she called McFall’s “reckless decision” to come off the auditorium stage during the break in the hearing....
Shove = punch. They're all lucky that the Tomahawks had already been removed.

I was reading about minor league baseball teams and their nicknames. Believe it or not, these are actual team names:

Amarillo Sod Poodles
Rocket City Trash Pandas
Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp
Akron Rubber Ducks
Lehigh Valley IronPigs
Carolina Disco Turkeys
Lansing Lugnuts
Hartford Yard Goats
Sugar Land Space Cowboys

Also, did you know that UC Santa Cruz teams are nicknamed “Banana Slugs”?

Rhode Island School of Design—Co-ed hockey team is called the Nads, the fencing team is the Pricks and the sailing club is the Seamen.

Yes.

The Savannah Bananas are an exhibition barnstorming team similar to the Harlem Globetrotters. They are famous for their on-field humor and unique Banana Ball rules. Funny YT vids. More on team names.

Before the Bananas, Savannah had the Sand Gnats.

Evergreen State College (WA) has the Geoducks (pronounced "gooey duck")

Geoduck fight song:

Go, Geoducks go, Through the mud and the sand, let’s go. Siphon high, squirt it out, swivel all about, let it all hang out.

Go, Geoducks go, Stretch your necks when the tide is low Siphon high, squirt it out, swivel all about, let it all hang out.

Bet you thought it was over:
Washington’s Football Team Ditched Its Offensive Name, But A Senator Wants To Save The Logo
A senator is pushing the NFL team to “restore” the former logo, which is widely seen by Native American groups as insulting.

Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) has been pushing the Washington Commanders NFL team to “restore” its former logo, which depicted a Native American, as it looks to find a new stadium....
Montana - sorry

Naa, it will never be over until everyone who was ever a 'Skins fan is dead and their children only follow DC United. But here's my real beef about that name change as well as other team/organization changes.

If you Google "Washington Redskins football" here's what you get:
https://www.google.com/search?q=washing ... e&ie=UTF-8

I think the solution mentioned in the article is good: let history be history, warts and all, and go forward from there. Pretending the team wasn't "Redskins" or calling them "R-word" (which I suppose could be taken for "retard") is ridiculous.

The past is there:
Team history

Boston Braves (1932)
Boston Redskins (1933–1936)
Washington Redskins (1937–2019) :puke-left:
Washington Football Team (2020–2021)
Washington Commanders (2022–present)
"DC" works for me, including now, but you're free to use any racial slur you wish. ;)

FYI:
... Washington was among the first NFL franchises with a fight song, "Hail to the Commanders", which is played by their marching band after every home game touchdown....
 :P

Anyhow, the logo and helmets ain't coming back, ever. Y'all and MAGAt Daines, who never lived east of ND until getting elected to Congress in 2013 at 50 years old, need to get over it. Right or wrong, you lost. Daines just ain't no messiah of DC-area tradition, he's pandering.
