In Memoriam

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

People will come.......

It's true. I visited the Field of Dreams in the early 90's.

Afaik, there's no Cubs. There is a Cincinnati Reds player and a Cleveland Indians player.

Ah, must be a Reds logo. It's partially hidden behind another player. Thanks.

That is one of the most beautiful “speeches” in the history of movies. And I’m not even a big baseball fan.

Mercury Morris, 2-time Super Bowl champ with Dolphins, dies at 77

Image

... Morris made no secret of the fact that he was filled with pride about the 1972 Dolphins being the first -- and still only -- undefeated and untied team in NFL history, pulling off a truly perfect season....

I'm sure many, likely including him, are surprised he made it this long. He had some great songs, like "Sunday Morning Coming Down"
Well, I woke up Sunday morning
With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad
So I had one more for dessert
Then I fumbled through my closet for my clothes
And found my cleanest dirty shirt
And I shaved my face and combed my hair
And stumbled down the stairs to meet the day
and of course, written by Kristofferson but owned by Janis, "Bobby McGee"
"...Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose"

Flawed human being, but who isn't?

Great, great ballplayer. Maybe he'll get in the Hall now.

I was playing several Kristofferson vids with my favourites of some of his many songs. It's interesting how many different people sang with him in so many performances. Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash (of course) many of the big time country women. But I was surprised to see who I think is Glen Frey playing guitar for him on "Loving her was easier" See it below, about .40, 1.25 and other spots.

Here's Sheryl Crow with him, doing "Bobby McGee"
Compare the difference in how Kris originally sang it, sorta draggy, and how they do it after Janis did her version. This one is much closer to Janis' version, and is very good.

I never got to be a huge fan of his music, but appreciated some of his movie roles:

Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore 1974

Trouble in Mind (film) 1985. The music performed by Marianne Faithfull is killer.
