Speaking of stats, here’s a question for you:

Let’s say you already have a home run, triple and double in the game. It’s your last at-bat, and you hit a clean shot into the outfield.

You can most likely get a double out of it. But do you try? Or do you settle for the single you can get get the “cycle”?

Wouldn't that depend somewhat on the score, whether we're behind or ahead?

Let’s say your team is 1 run ahead and it’s the eighth inning.

Then nope, take two.

The cycle is cute, but it's not better than HR, 3B and 2 x 2B. Plus, people would notice your lack of effort in that final AB.

It's more than cute, it's the batter's equivalent of a no hitter and about as rare.

There have been pitchers who've lost no hitters and they'd prefer the win.

How rare is HR, 3B and 2 x 2B? Possibly rarer since doubles are more difficult than singles? No one knows because you can't put a cute name to it like the "cycle". You are right to choose the team over the cycle.
