Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

He tricked us by starting off good, then pivoting to making up stuff about Kamala to whine about. Sleazy.

I've been following the latest desperate and largely manufactured MAGAt freakout over Biden's intemperate language. Of course, Joe isn't running for anything and has never been considered the most articulate of leaders, not that reality ever matters to the whiny and gullible MAGAts. Did Joe intend an apostrophe in 'supporters'? I'm inclined to think so in the expectation that he would not be so reckless as to call all DonOLD voters 'garbage', whatever his private thoughts are. Not that nuance ever matters to the whiny and gullible MAGAts, either.

The irony here is that I do think that all MAGAts are garbage for the political choice they're making, more so than the collective immigrants who TRE45QN disparages who merely work for a better life for their families, and whatever other positive contributions MAGAts make. Does that make me a bad person in the way that Joe and by extension Kamala are being portrayed?

Yeah, and they're all a basket of deplorables, too, but for some reason Dems are held to a higher standard of decorum than repugs. At least in part the media's fault.

... TV host Tucker Carlson has helped fuel it, and members of Congress like Representatives Elise Stefanik and Matt Gaetz, as well as Senator J.D. Vance, have all repeated it. Recently, Elon Musk has amplified the theory to his millions of followers on X (formerly Twitter)....

Back to The Hill article about TRE45QN's plans:
... The choice of Stefanik could have repercussions for Trump’s efforts to get his agenda through the House. Republicans are expected to have an extremely narrow majority, and that margin will temporarily become slimmer if Stefanik vacates her seat to join the administration....
Maybe not "temporarily". Idk how the NY replacement process works, but the Gov is Dem and Stefanik represents a historically purple District. The NY21 voters might send a Dem in a special election.

Here's a good one.....Missouri state House member introduces the "Donald J. Trump Election Qualification Act" that will allow convicted felons to run for public office in MO. It is currently illegal for a convicted felon to run for state or local office in the state. His "reasoning" is that if a convicted felon can run for president, a convicted felon should be able to also run for lesser state office. Now that's some real MAGA logic there. Sick

The next pandemic? Bird Flu:

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/health/how ... to%20COVID
Nearly a year into the first outbreak of the bird flu among cattle, the virus shows no sign of slowing. The U.S. government failed to eliminate the virus on dairy farms when it was confined to a handful of states, by quickly identifying infected cows and taking measures to keep their infections from spreading. Now at least 875 herds across 16 states have tested positive.

...

a pandemic, but if it does, we are screwed.”

To understand how the bird flu got out of hand, KFF Health News interviewed nearly 70 government officials, farmers and farmworkers, and researchers with expertise in virology, pandemics, veterinary medicine, and more.

Together with emails obtained from local health departments through public records requests, this investigation revealed key problems, including deference to the farm industry, eroded public health budgets, neglect for the safety of agriculture workers, and the sluggish pace of federal interventions.

Zuck’s Own Board Co-Chair Knifes Him Over MAGA Makeover
COMPANY POLITICS
Michael McConnell appeared less than convinced by Meta’s new fact-checking strategy.

Mark Zuckerberg’s shock choice to scrap fact-checking on Facebook and Instagram has sparked concern and outrage—including from inside the top ranks of the company.

Michael McConnell, co-chair of Meta’s Oversight Board, said in an interview Friday that the move looks like “buckling to political pressure.”

“I would have liked to have seen these reforms laid out in less contentious and partisan times, so that they would be considered on the merits rather than…Donald Trump is president and now they’re caving in,” McConnell told NPR.

According to him, neither he nor the board, an international group of experts in law, human rights and journalism, were told about the new policy ahead of time.

Meta executives, however, allegedly informed Trump officials about the change in policy prior to the announcement, a source with knowledge of the conversations told the New York Times....

Since Donald Trump’s election victory, the Meta chief has joined a growing number of tycoons cozying up to the MAGA candidate. Zuckerberg dined with Trump at Mar-a-Lago in November and later donated $1 million to the president-elect’s inauguration. And, on Monday, he announced Dana White, a close ally of Trump’s, would join the Meta’s board.

Meta’s pivot to the right sparks boycotts and a user exodus

After Meta and its CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a series of changes that shifted the company and its policies to the right ahead of President-elect Donald Trump’s second term, some users are fleeing the company’s platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.

In the barrage of changes made in recent weeks, the company ended its third-party fact-checking program in the United States and said it would pull back on content moderation around political discourse. Instead, Meta will use a community notes system similar to Elon Musk’s X. Updates to Meta’s policy on hateful conduct include that LGBTQ people can now be called mentally ill because of their identities. Meta also disbanded its diversity, equity and inclusion team.

Zuckerberg isn’t the only Big Tech billionaire currying favor with the incoming president. Musk and Jeff Bezos will both be seated in prominent spots at Trump’s inauguration Monday.
Oligarch row, including Elon.
But Meta’s changes, along with Zuckerberg’s personal appeals to Trump, have caused a cascade of reactions among its users.

NBC News reviewed hundreds of posts and comments across various social media platforms that said users would delete their Meta accounts, stop posting or boycott the company in response to the changes. The exodus is reminiscent of when X (formerly Twitter) users left the platform in large numbers after the 2024 election.
Good, I'll boycott them, too. Oh wait, I already do.
“I no longer feel safe to post on either platform as a queer Chicana woman,” said Marie Valencia, a full-time artist who had more than 20,000 followers on Facebook and Instagram before she stopped posting. The term Chicana refers to American women of Mexican descent. “I have seen a steady stream of folks abandoning their profiles as well, especially in the last couple weeks as Meta has dismantled DEI and speech protections for those most vulnerable online.”

Valencia has moved to posting on Bluesky, an alternative to X, as well as a platform for Latina women called Amigahood. “Meta will become another X,” Valencia said.
Nice, I hope people react as strongly.
Cord Jefferson, director of Academy Award best picture nominee “American Fiction,” announced Sunday that he was leaving Instagram, but would remain active on Tumblr.

“So many things are getting bleaker and grosser by the day. And while we can’t place the blame for all of it at the feet of tech oligarchs, we can place the blame for a lot of it at the feet of tech oligarchs,” Jefferson wrote on Instagram. “I’m doing what little I can to shut the increasingly stupid ideas that shape online spaces like this out of my life.”
Smash the oligarchy!
Some people have abandoned some of Meta’s platforms while continuing to use others. Stanford University law professor Mark Lemley, who represents Meta in a copyright dispute involving artificial intelligence, announced Monday that he would be dropping the company as a client and reconsidering his use of Meta’s platforms.

“I have struggled with how to respond to Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook’s descent into toxic masculinity and Neo-Nazi madness,” Lemley wrote. “While I have thought about quitting Facebook, I find great value in the connections and friends I have here, and it doesn’t seem fair that I should lose that because Zuckerberg is having a mid-life crisis.”

Lemley said he deactivated his account on Threads, Meta’s X alternative, and that he will no longer buy products from ads he sees on Facebook or Instagram. Instead, he wrote that he will “go separately to the website to make sure Facebook doesn’t get any credit for the purchase.”...

Critics Rip Trump Crony Stephen Miller Over Incredibly Hypocritical Claim About 'The Law'
Trump's own actions stand in direct contradiction to Miller's claim
