In Memoriam

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

:wtf: It takes a special kind of asshole to be an asshole a year after his death when he would have been 101.

I was surprised to not see you in Baseball. I should have known that you beat me to it by 24 minutes in this thread.

 I didn't mean to imply that. In Memoriam is just as valid, and is viewed by more of us.

It's not always good to be getting old.
For example:

Perry the donkey, known as model for Donkey character in 'Shrek,' dies at 30 in California

:crybaby:

No word from Eddie Murphy yet.

Creative guy!
David Lynch, who directed off-kilter classics, dies at 78

Director David Lynch has died. His sinister, surreal vision of America made him a leading counterculture auteur in the 1980s and 1990s, with movies such as Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart and Mulholland Drive, as well as the groundbreaking television series he co-created with Mark Frost, Twin Peaks....

Born in Missoula, Mont. ...
... His first feature, from 1977, was a black-and-white surreal horror movie. Eraserhead centers on a stressed-out man who finds himself thrust into fatherhood, with a sickly newborn who barely resembles a human child.

Lynch started making it while in his mid-20s, as a student at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. The film initially got mixed reviews but became a stealth hit in late-night movie houses....

Lynch's mainstream breakthrough was another black-and-white film, The Elephant Man, starring Anthony Hopkins and John Hurt. Based on the real life experiences of a British man with severe deformities, the 1980 movie was nominated for eight Academy Awards.

But even with those accolades, Lynch did not get final cut for his film version of Dune, based on Frank Herbert's science fiction novel. He hated the end result that was released in 1984 and told NPR he learned the hard way to always have creative control....
I hated it, too.

RIP :(

Garth Hudson, keyboardist and last member of The Band died yesterday. Probably dig out The Last Waltz later on and sit at the good right arm of Mr. Natural.

:( One of the all time great groups with The Last Waltz being one of the all time great albums and concert movies. RIP

1960s pop icon Marianne Faithfull has died at her home in London

:( She had a long and successful career. I remember her best for the soundtrack to the haunting Trouble in Mind (film), 1985, and the award-winning Broken English (album). RIP

Michelle Trachtenberg ‘knew death was a high possibility,’ says friend, who talked to ‘Buffy’ star in hospital

Just 39. She was a 'Dirty Old Man' crush of mine. Sad that she endured a liver transplant and then died alone. RIP

Rough couple of days:
Actor Gene Hackman and wife found dead

Hollywood star Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa have been found dead in their Santa Fe home, along with their dog.

New Mexico police said their causes of death are under investigation but they do not believe foul play is a factor at this time.

The two-time Oscar-winning actor, 95, and his retired pianist wife, 63, were found on Wednesday afternoon at their residence in Sunset Trail....
Suicides? Carbon monoxide? My favorite was probably Sheriff "Little" Bill Daggett in Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven (1992), which gave him a Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Captain Franklin "Frank" Ramsey, Commanding Officer (CO) in Crimson Tide (1995) was a great role, too. RIPs

Many great roles.....I really liked him in the BAT 21 movie. Don't remember what year it was; probably about twenty years ago or more.

I don't think they've figured out what happened yet.

Carl Dean, Dolly Parton's husband of nearly 60 years who inspired 'Jolene,' dies at 82

... Dean is survived by Parton and his two siblings, Sandra and Donnie.

He inspired Parton’s classic, “Jolene.” Parton told NPR in 2008 that she wrote the song about a flirty bank teller who seemed to take an interest in Dean....

In 2023, Parton told AP Dean helped inspired her 2023 “Rockstar” album.

“He’s a big rock and roller,” she said. The song “My Blue Tears,” which was written when Parton was with “The Porter Wagoner Show” in the late 1960s and early ’70s, is “one of my husband’s favorite songs that I ever wrote,” she said. “I thought, ’Well, I better put one of Carl’s favorites of mine in here.”

She also covered a few of his favorites on the temporary detour from country music: Lynyrd Skynyrd ’s “Free Bird” and Led Zeppelin ’s “Stairway to Heaven.”
Awww. RIP. Dolly is 79.

I remember when Porter Waggoner "discovered" Dolly and gave her a start. He was a big deal in Nashville back in the '60's.
