I don't get it.
Other than a potential temporary ratings bump what's a possible scenario where this ends well?

Me either. I consider that there's only one correct "approach" when dealing with lies, whining, and bullshit......I see only two options here: accept the lies, whineing, and bullshit as truth, or vigorously stomp and fish slap the lies, whining, and bullshit every time they're trotted out.GoCubsGo wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2024 10:46 pmI don't get it.

I don't know about them, but I saw an article that said the media (and the people) are going to have to stop max level publicity and outrage over every little rude crude cruel and stupid thing Trump says and focus on events of significance. In essence, Trump is who he is, voters knew it, voted him in anyway so outrage needs to be harnessed and focused or it will keep on being like Portlanders panicking over a rainy day.

Well yeah, trump fatigue is very real.
I'm still on cable news blackout and I assume you are too.
There's going to plenty of real shit to be alarmed and outraged about starting on January 20 at 12:00 est.
Until then it's mostly a spectator sport for me. But why make an extra effort to normalize the crazy?

Re: Media Thread (non Faux)
Yeah, I don't watch/listen to political news. I do read some, because with that I can control more what I see and how much I read. But going back to Trump's first term, I think he gets waaaay more coverage than he should. Anything that starts with "I plan to...." or "Trump announced plans..." can be ignored because you know damn well it's not likely to happen, at least not in the way originally presented. They should treat him like an opponent in a wrestling match - watch the stomach. The guy can head fake, wave arms, shuffle feet, yada, but where the stomach goes is where the rest of him will go.GoCubsGo wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 11:24 amWell yeah, trump fatigue is very real.

And they've long ago normalized the crazy. Even otherwise reputable people like Margaret Brennan will invite some flunky on to the show and let them spout nutty talking points as if they were rational. "President Trump has carefully read (whatever) and will decide..." Seriously?

I still have an icky feeling in my stomach that it's more about keeping Joe and Mika relevant and in front of the cameras for the next four years.

CNN has also very recently adopted a subscription only model on their website. I think you get a couple of free articles before being locked out.GoCubsGo wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2024 10:03 pmGuess O Really and I aren't the only ones tuning out.

Re: Media Thread (non Faux)
So has anyone hit a paywall on some random site and said, "oh, cool - I think I'll give them some money"?
Or I suppose the idea is that somebody will hit it several times and decide they'll use it enough to be worth the subscription. Or more likely pissed off enough just to never click on it.

I haven't yet. If clearing the cookies doesn't work the same info. is usually easy to find elsewhere - either the exact same article or close enough.O Really wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 1:54 pmSo has anyone hit a paywall on some random site and said, "oh, cool - I think I'll give them some money"?

Yeah I think they have every right to charge for use of their site, but I don't think they should be allowed to pit click- bait headlines on a free site and then say no-no.

Traditional news media seems to be on the way out. Probably not a good thing. A lot of people get "news" from podcasts, TikTok, Facebook, and so forth these days. Revenue is probably drying up.

Re: Media Thread (non Faux)
Perhaps the worst example, Joe Rogan has 14.5 million followers.
Ukrainian boxing champ blasts Joe Rogan for spreading 'Russian Propaganda'
TRE45QN, yet another Russian asset.... Klitschko held belts from the International Boxing Federation, the World Boxing Organization and the International Boxing Organization from 2008 until 2015. The former boxer did not lose a single fight from 2004 to 2015, and later retired in 2017. Klitschko’s brother, Vitali Klitschko, is currently the mayor of Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, and was also a former heavyweight champion.
Ukraine’s former Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba also addressed Rogan’s comments, writing in an X post ...
... Rogan endorsed Trump the day before the election, having previously had him as a guest on his podcast....

Surprising no one:
Majority of social media influencers don’t verify information before sharing it, study finds
Even worse:

'This town is not for them.' Residents react to white Christian nationalists moving to Tennessee

Good on NewsChannel 5 for exposing the threat to the community

Star Washington Post Columnist (a conservative) Torches Bezos on Her Way Out the Door
The star Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin resigned from the paper Monday and took a parting shot at Jeff Bezos, its billionaire owner.
... “We’ve watched as corporate and billionaire owners of media outlets abused their audiences’ loyalty and undercut journalism’s vital role in a free democracy. Instead of safeguarding democratic values, they have enabled the gravest threats to democracy—Donald Trump and his allies—at the very time when a robust and independent press is most essential. We need an alternative, truly independent outlet that is unafraid of the administration and unwilling to equivocate or bend the knee.”...
