I could care less if some ILLEGALS are picked up and possibly deported. They are, in fact, here illegally. Until we get past the "illegal" part finding a way for them to stay should be on hold.

It's something you bigots want but aren't willing to pay for, and locales are exercising their freedom to not volunteer. What if it was federal environmental law? Just grow a pair and admit that you are necessarily endorsing Dems being similar bullies when they are in power and red locales don't volunteer to do blue stuff. We can all see it.
Btw, local PDs that think preventing and solving murder, rape, child abuse, etc is important have very good reason to not have a whole community afraid of immigration enforcement when they cooperate. It's sad that DonOLD and your bigotry is so pathological that you don't care about these far more serious crimes than crossing the border for work.

What is "legal" and "illegal" changes frequently and could be changed with a vote and a stroke of a pen - and sometimes just the pen stroke, as Trump is wont to do. Actual crime, however, stays pretty stable. Actually, if they just went back to the immigration law prior to 9/11, it would all work out.

Judge blocks Trump's bid to restrict birthright citizenship
... "Today, virtually every baby born on US soil is a US citizen upon birth," Maryland district Judge Deborah Boardman ruled. "That is the law and tradition of our country."
The ruling extends the existing pause on Trump's 20 January executive order until the legal process plays out, which could take months or even years.
It comes two weeks after a federal judge in Seattle called Trump's order "blatantly unconstitutional" and issued a 14-day restraining order. The judge will hold another hearing when that ruling expires on Thursday....
On Wednesday, Judge Boardman ruled that Trump's order "runs counter to our nation's 250-year history of citizenship by birth".
"The United States Supreme Court has resoundingly rejected the president's interpretation of the Citizenship Clause of the 14th Amendment," she said. "In fact, no court in the country has ever endorsed the president's interpretation. This court will not be the first."
... An additional hearing - for a case that involves more than a dozen states challenging Trump's order - is scheduled for Friday in Massachusetts.

Suburban Maryland rocks! Also:Deborah Lynn Boardman (born 1974) is an American lawyer and jurist serving since 2021 as a United States district judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland....
Early life and education
Boardman was born in 1974 in Silver Spring, Maryland, and grew up in Frederick, Maryland.
Slightly ironic timing.Boardman has been described as being of Palestinian descent on her mother's side....

Re: Immigration

That's just stupid, and fascist.Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (potentially) Under Investigation Over Illegal Migrant Video
Border czar Tom Homan suggested Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is being investigated by the Department of Justice (DOJ) for potentially impeding immigration enforcement law.
Ocasio-Cortez hosted a live webinar on Wednesday advising migrants in her congressional district about their rights if they come into contact with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents looking to deport them.
"Impediment is impediment in my opinion," Homan told Fox News, as he questioned whether her behavior was "crossing the line."
What to Know
... "Believe it or not, in America EVERYONE has rights," Ocasio-Cortez wrote on X on Thursday, sharing a guide on the legal rights that undocumented immigrants have.
Homan criticized the event and questioned whether it constituted obstruction of immigration enforcement. He claimed to have contacted the DOJ for clarification on whether Ocasio-Cortez's actions could be considered unlawful interference.
"I sent an email to the Deputy AG today...at what level is that impediment," Homan said.

"Is that impeding our law enforcement efforts. If so, what are we going to do about it? Is she crossing the line, I'm working with the DOJ to find out. Maybe AOC is going to be in trouble now," he added.
AOC fired back and told the nation's top immigration official to read the U.S. Constitution.
"MaYbe shE's goiNg to be in TroUble nOw" Maybe he can learn to read. The Constitution would be a good place to start," she wrote on X.

Was the Webinar for Migrants Illegal?
Hosting Know Your Rights seminars for migrants to deal with ICE is not illegal in the United States. In fact, providing legal education, including informing individuals of their constitutional rights, is protected under the First Amendment, which is freedom of speech....
What Happens Next
The DOJ has not yet commented on whether it will investigate Ocasio-Cortez's webinar, but legal experts widely agree that Know Your Rights sessions are not illegal. Given the constitutional protections for free speech and legal education, any potential case against Ocasio-Cortez would likely face significant legal hurdles.
If the DOJ does proceed with an investigation, it would need to establish that her webinar actively obstructed ICE operations rather than merely provided information. This would be a difficult threshold to meet, given longstanding legal precedents protecting the right to share legal knowledge.

Greg Abbott Responds After Dallas Police Refuse to Join ICE Raids
... City officials in Dallas referred Newsweek Thursday evening to a statement made in January, again saying that the police department would not engage in immigration enforcement....

Tough.What To Know
... At one particular service at a church, interim Chief Michael Igo told those in attendance that his officers would not aid U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in its ramped-up operations. That included officers not detaining or reporting anyone who was undocumented who called 911 or was pulled over in traffic violations.
"I need you guys to continue to call the police, to not be afraid to come out of your homes to go to work, to send our kids to school," he told the audience, while also saying that those with criminal warrants against them would likely be arrested....
What People Are Saying
Andrew Mahaleris, Abbott's press secretary, told Newsweek : "Governor Abbott fully supports using every tool and strategy to aid in the Trump Administration's deportation of illegal immigrants, and city and county officials across the state should fully cooperate in those efforts....
Igo, in a post to X on Wednesday: "There's no room for fear in our community. I am meeting with stakeholders across Dallas to reassure them we're here to serve and protect all Dallas residents, and are committed to enforcing city ordinances and state laws."...

Re: Immigration
The Bigot in Chief has not been faring very well in the courts:

Damn, couldn't even win over the DonOLD judge.Appeals court leaves block on Trump’s birthright citizenship order in place, setting up Supreme Court showdown
... The 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday declined an emergency Justice Department request that it lift the hold a Seattle judge had placed blocking implementation of President Donald Trump’s executive order, after concluding the order ran afoul of the Constitution.
The 9th Circuit panel – made up of a Trump appointee, a Jimmy Carter appointee and a George W. Bush appointee – said that a closer review of the case will move forward in its court, with arguments slated for June....
The 9th Circuit case arose from a lawsuit filed by the Democratic attorneys general of four states led by Washington. Their filings pushed back on the DOJ’s efforts to frame the dispute around a president’s powers in the immigration sphere.
“This is not a case about ‘immigration,” they wrote. “It is about citizenship rights that the Fourteenth Amendment and federal statute intentionally and explicitly place beyond the President’s authority to condition or deny.”
The majority of the 9th Circuit panel indicated that the Trump administration had failed at this emergency phase because it had not shown it that it was likely to succeed on the merits of the dispute.
Judge Danielle Forrest, a Trump appointee, wrote a concurrence stating that she was not expressing any views on the underlying legal arguments, and that instead she had voted against the Trump administration because it had not shown that there was an “emergency” requiring an immediate intervention of the court.
“Deciding important substantive issues on one week’s notice turns our usual decision-making process on its head,” she wrote. “We should not undertake this task unless the circumstances dictate that we must. They do not here.”

SoupySales is just being accurate. Fta:
https://www.yahoo.com/news/judge-blocks ... 06207.html
... But groups of the Religious Society of Friends better known as Quakers, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship representing 750,000 people and the Sikh Temple Sacramento representing 30,000 people fought the memo for allegedly discouraging attendance at religious events.
“For decades, the government has recognized that everyone – no matter their immigration status –should be able to attend houses of worship without fear of a warrantless government raid,” Skye Perryman, president of Democracy Forward, an advocacy group that represented the religious groups, said in a statement. “Our plaintiffs represent a unique and diverse coalition of religious groups that have been at the forefront in protecting values of religious liberty for centuries. We are grateful to the court for acting to limit this unlawful and harmful policy.”
... The lawsuit argued that any government policy based solely on common sense was an unconstitutional violation of freedom of association under the First Amendment. The lawsuit also said the policy violated the Religious Freedom and Restoration Act and the Administrative Procedure Act.
The Quakers said it violated their exercise of religion because having ICE agents park outside services and interrupting to “drag a congregant out during the middle of worship” would discourage attendance.
“For over 30 years, it has been the government’s official policy to not enforce immigration laws in ‘protected areas,’ which include houses of worship (and other religious ceremonies like weddings and funerals), absent certain extraordinary circumstances. Rightly so,” the lawsuit said. “Enforcement in protected areas like houses of worship would, in the government’s own words, ‘restrain people’s access to essential services or engagement in essential activities.’”

Opps.Republicans on the House Oversight Committee hauled a quartet of mayors to Capitol Hill Wednesday with the intent of vilifying them for not forcing local police officers to do the jobs of federal immigration officials.
But as they attempted to slander so-called “sanctuary cities” for refusing to surrender to President Donald Trump’s deportation threats in advance, the representatives were clearly unprepared to have their own failures laid bare....
In 2024, Trump forced Republicans to kill a bipartisan border deal negotiated by President Joe Biden. Not because it was a bad deal, but because Trump cared more about denying Biden a political win than actually fixing the broken immigration process.
Instead he’s gone on to lie about immigrants and threaten them with mass deportation.
Mayors Brandon Johnson of Chicago, Mike Johnston of Denver and Eric Adams of New York, all Democrats, also testified Wednesday.
Republicans have threatened to withhold federal funding from the cities, and in January, acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove also threatened to prosecute state and local officials who don’t cooperate with ICE.
