Bannon's full of it, as usual. That's not the way H1B works. Pay has to be the higher of either an externally measured "prevailing wage" or the average amount paid to other employees preforming similar work. If the employer terminates them, it has to pay their way back home if the employee doesn't find another sponsor. There's a lot of expense and hoop-jumping involved with H1B people. If an employer could easily hire somebody from a competitor down the street, they'd do it.
That's very true. But it still stands that they're still much more heavily tied to the employer sponsoring them and can't as easily cut ties and move to along to better opportunities. I think this benefits employers in that they weild more control over these employees than non-H1Bs

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's how I understand it anyway. At least in relation to that shit bag Musk and his likely motives.

Sure, but that's a feature, not a bug. The H1B is not and is not intended to be a permanent work permit. It is a temporary permit for a specific employment engagement. Compare more to a student visa than to a green card.

"Divorce is coming soon": MAGA civil war erupts after Trump allies accuse Elon Musk of "censorship"
Trump ally Laura Loomer accused Musk of throttling accounts that criticized his call for immigrant worker visas

... “[Elon Musk], who is not MAGA and never has been, is a total f****g drag on the Trump transition,” (Laura) Loomer tweeted. “He’s a stage 5 clinger who over stayed his welcome at Mar a Lago in an effort to become Trump’s side piece and be the point man for all of his accomplices in big Tech to slither in to Mar a Lago.”...

:violin:

:---P Who had 'Still 2024' in the pool?

Missing the point, as usual:
... The showdown comes just days after the president-elect had to reassure supporters that he, not Musk, was running the show.

“He’s not gonna be president,” Trump said on Sunday, referring to the ‘President Musk’ monicker that some gave to the billionaire after he successfully tanked two federal budget bills. “I’m safe. You know why? He can’t be. He wasn’t born in this country.”

You're in good company:

Bernie Sanders Slams Elon Musk Over H-1B Visas
The Vermont senator had some thoughts on the visa brawl engulfing Republicans, saying Musk simply wants "cheaper labor."

... “Take a big step back and FUCK YOURSELF in the face. I will go to war on this issue the likes of which you cannot possibly comprehend,” he (Musk) added.
 Mature.
Progressives like Sanders have criticized the H-1B program for years, saying it offers tech companies a way to undercut U.S.-born workers by paying below-market rates.

In a 2020 paper on the system, the left-leaning Economic Policy Institute described it as an important but “deeply flawed” program for attracting skilled workers, saying it enables U.S. companies to “legally underpay” foreign workers relative to their U.S. counterparts.

Although the program is meant to help employers find workers with specialized skills, the authors of that report found the largest employers used it “to fill a very large number of routine positions that require relatively little experience and ordinary skills.”

Sanders criticized Tesla’s reliance on the program, pointing out that the car manufacturer slashed some of its U.S. workforce last year.

“If there really is a shortage of skilled tech workers in America, then why did Tesla lay-off over 7,500 American workers … while being approved to employ thousands of H-1B guest workers?” he said in a statement.
:---P

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/don-lemo ... 284c2127fb
Former CNN host Don Lemon mocked Donald Trump supporters over what he called a “MAGA civil war” that’s now erupting over immigration.

While many Trump voters were drawn to his hardline approach to immigration, the president-elect this weekend came out in favor of the H-1B visas for skilled foreign workers that are especially common in the tech industry.

Meanwhile, other migrant workers could face deportation ― hurting the agricultural industry in particular.

“Some farmers say without these workers they have about two days that they can run their farms,” Lemon said on his YouTube channel. “And then after that, it’s over.”

But he didn’t have much sympathy for the Trump fans angry over the bait-and-switch on immigration.

“Now you’re finding out, you dumb fucking idiots,” Lemon said. “Now you’re just figuring this shit out. You’re so fucking stupid, and you deserve it, and you fucking deserve it because you’re so dumb.”
:laughing-rolling:
Lemon admitted he was gloating.

“You were taken,” he said. “You have been co-opted because you’re in a fucking cult and you don’t even realize it because you have stupid MAGA brain and you don’t get it.”
:---P
Trump had in the past called H-1B visas “very bad” and “unfair” for U.S. workers.

But after billionaire allies Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy spoke out in favor of the visas, Trump over the weekend called himself “a believer in H-1B” and praised it as a “great program.”
President Musk wins again. :puke-left:
Dolt .45 is such an easily manipulated wimp!

"...legally underpay foreign workers" is not what the law says. If true, on a broad scale, maybe the issue is enforcement and not the law itself.

I have zero knowledge of the topic, and I'm not sure if Whack9, Bernie!, Don Lemon and the Economic Policy Institute think it's the law or the implementation. History tells me that it's likely both.

OReally is correct. H1B employees aren't paid less than domestic workers. I think they may even be paid better, which I agree should be the case.

I have no qualms with H1B visas when used as intended. It massively benefits the US to attract talent. However, I don't think it's a stretch to say that the stakes for "behaving" and putting up with more abuse are much higher for H1B workers than for domestic workers. They can't up and leave as easily as a domestic worker. They're tethered rather tightly to their employer. It seems like this alone makes them more valuable than a domestic employee. From first hand experience, I don't think it's always the case that a position couldn't have been filled with an equally, if not more competent, domestic employee.

I'm obviously biased though since it benefits me to have a tighter labor market 😀

You, Matt Gaetz, Bernie Sanders and Laura Loomer - peas in a pod. :P

Ethics office suggests full-scale House Ethics investigation into Rep. Andy Ogles

An independent federal agency recommends the House Ethics Committee open a full-scale investigation into U.S. Rep. Andy Ogles (wealthy southern and eastern Nashville, TN suburbs) over discrepancies on his campaign finance disclosures.

Ogles refused to cooperate with the federal review of his finances, according to a new report.

Why it matters: Ogles, a pro-Trump Republican and member of the House Freedom Caucus, won reelection in November.

However, his last year has been dogged by scrutiny over a $320,000 personal loan he reported on disclosures to the Federal Election Commission.

Catch up quick: Ogles later amended disclosures to reduce the reported personal loan amount to $20,000.

He disclosed last year that the FBI seized his cell phone and personal email as part of an apparent federal investigation into his finances.

Ogles said last year he is "confident that any reporting problem was at worst an honest mistake."
 Yeah, right.
The latest: The Office of Congressional Ethics released its report this week, recommending a full Ethics Committee investigation.

The OCE report concluded there is "substantial reason to believe that Rep. Ogles omitted or misrepresented required information" on his financial disclosures.

The report also found there is "substantial reason to believe that Rep. Ogles's campaign committee may have accepted excessive contributions that were reported as personal loans and contributions from the candidate."...

What's next: The OCE report recommends a full House Ethics investigation, including issuing subpoenas to Ogles, his wife Monica Ogles and others.
Will the House RepuQs do that? Dubious. Anyhow, the House is limited in the punishments it can impose. Where are the FEC and DoJ criminal investigations?

The over under is inauguration day.
Steve Bannon condemns Elon Musk as ‘racist’ and ‘truly evil’

Mirror, as always with MAGAts.
“He is a truly evil guy, a very bad guy. I made it my personal thing to take this guy down,” Bannon said. “Before, because he put money in, I was prepared to tolerate it – I’m not prepared to tolerate it any more.”

He added: “I will have Elon Musk run out of here by inauguration day”, which falls on 20 January. “He will not have full access to the White House. He will be like any other person.”
 Great minds . . . Did you take the over or the under? I kind of had the under. Did anyone have H-1B visas on their flashpoint bingo card?
“This thing of the H-1B visas, it’s about the entire immigration system is gamed by the tech overlords. They use it to their advantage. The people are furious,” said Bannon, whom Trump fired from his White House position during his first administration but who later reinvented himself through his War Room podcast as one of the chief evangelists of the Maga movement.

Bannon further widened his aim to attack Musk’s fellow tech giants Peter Thiel and David Sacks for having South African heritage.

“He [Musk] should go back to South Africa,” Bannon said. “Why do we have South Africans, the most racist people on earth, white South Africans, we have them making any comments at all on what goes on in the United States?”
Whether accurate or not that's also pretty racist of Bannon. Mirror, as I said.
Arguing that Musk’s “sole objective is to become a trillionaire” and calling him a proponent of “techno-feudalism on a global scale”, Bannon said, “I don’t support that and we’ll fight it,” adding: “He won’t fight. He’s got the maturity of a little boy.

“He will do anything to make sure that any one of his companies is protected or has a better deal or he makes more money.

“His aggregation of wealth, and then – through wealth – power: that’s what he’s focused on.”
Can't argue with that. GoUncivil WarGo
