The Religion Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

New bible just dropped

https://godblesstheusabible.com/

Also comes with the lyrics to Lee Greenwalds god bless the USA, the declaration of Independence, and the Constitution.

The next, improved, edition will have Jesus's sermon on the mount replaced with the pledge of allegiance and quotes from the art of the deal since maga is all about winning and not backing down.
I wonder how sales are going. Maybe a boxed set with the golden sneakers?

Pastor Accused Of Paying $40,000 In Attempt To Kill Daughter's Boyfriend
Samuel Pasillas allegedly enlisted multiple men as part of a "murder-for-hire" plot in California.

... Samuel Pasillas, a 47-year-old from Victorville, was booked on charges of solicitation for murder, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, the city said Tuesday.

Authorities first began investigating in October after the boyfriend arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds. The man said that he had been driving when a vehicle pulled up alongside him and began shooting....

In a statement, Riverside police told HuffPost that the “victim has since been released from the hospital” and that he is “recovering from his injuries.”

“As for motive, there was nothing the victim had done to provoke his girlfriend’s father to arrange something like this,” the statement said. “He is an all-around good guy. One possibility is the father’s religious ideology could have led him to solicit for the victim to be harmed.”

Juan Manuel Cebreros, a 55-year-old from Long Beach, was also arrested over the incident on charges of conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon....
"religious ideology", of course

Dear Governor Cooper,

Re: How a benches-clearing brawl spelled the end for a private Christian school in Charlotte
https://www.yahoo.com/news/benches-clea ... 00627.html

I am dismayed to learn from this article that a Christian madrassa can get nearly $1M in taxpayer dollars with no assessment of parents' financial need and zero accountability for how the money is spent, all while treating the students and staff very poorly. This is rotten fiscal management and an insult to those of us who don't think the state should be subsidizing a particular religion. Please fix this.

Sincerely,
(Vrede too)

I tried, but the event is too sad to make fun of.

"A stampede at a religious event in India has killed at least 60 people"

But you've got 15,000 religious people trampling on each other at a place called "Lucknow". Maybe not so lucky for those trampled.

Trump Tapped Mike Huckabee To Be U.S. Ambassador To Israel. Christian Nationalists Are Thrilled.
Huckabee's anti-Palestinian rhetoric has made him a leading figure among Christian Zionists in America.

After President-elect Donald Trump announced his nomination of Mike Huckabee for U.S. Ambassador to Israel on Tuesday, prominent Christian nationalists — who see unwavering support for Israel as key to hastening Armageddon and the Second Coming of Christ — were thrilled....

Pastor John Hagee, the group’s founder and Parker’s father, believes the return of Jews to Israel and the expulsion of Palestinians from their lands are necessary steps in bringing forth the end of the world, Jesus’ return to Earth, and the eventual rapture of Christians to Heaven. (There are different formulations about what happens to the Jews in Israel during this end-times scenario, but the prevailing theory is that they would have to mass-convert to Christianity to get to Heaven, or otherwise be doomed to Hell.)

This arguably antisemitic interpretation of scripture is widespread among American Christian evangelicals in America, including Huckabee. Now, as Israel’s assault on Gaza, made possible by U.S. money and weapons, continues at a frightening pace — killing over 41,000 Palestinians, according to the most conservative estimates — the country will soon enjoy the unwavering support of an evangelical Christian ambassador who has said that “there’s really no such thing as a Palestinian.”

Huckabee, a Southern Baptist minister and former governor of Arkansas who ran twice for president, has more recently worked as the host of a talk show on the Trinity Broadcasting Network. He’s also known for leading Christian tours of Israel, and for his staunch support of illegal settlements in occupied Palestinian territories.

“There are certain words I refuse to use,” he said during a 2017 trip to Ma’ale Adumim, an Israeli settlement in the West Bank considered illegal under international law. “There is no such thing as a West Bank — it’s Judea and Samaria. There’s no such thing as a settlement. They’re communities. They’re neighborhoods. They’re cities. There’s no such thing as an occupation.”

... Extreme right-wing figures in Israel also hailed Huckabee’s nomination, with National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir posting the words “Mike Huckabee” next to a heart emoji in between the Israeli and American flags.

Huckabee’s staunch support for Israel, and his denial of Palestinians’ existence, has gone hand-in-hand with an abiding Islamophobia. In 2011, arguing that Christians should not rent spaces in their churches to Muslims, Huckabee said “Muslim groups” believe “that Jesus Christ and all the people that follow him are a bunch of infidels who should be essentially obliterated.”...

Just Deranged Vance is just deranged, again:

JD Vance backs Trump's decision to halt foreign aid to 'prevent spread of atheism'
JD Vance, Trump's vice president, has suggested that US foreign aid has been misused by the previous administration as it 'has been used to spread atheism all over the globe'

:bs: Of course, Just Deranged didn't offer any specifics or evidence and never will. That's how it goes with MAGA xtians - hopelessly dishonest and immoral.
... Though Vance didn't delve into specifics, Forbes reported that the top recipient of USAID funding between 2013 and 2022 was Catholic Relief Services, having received a substantial $4.6 billion.

This nonprofit organization, acting as the international humanitarian arm of the .us. Catholic Church, focuses on aiding the impoverished and vulnerable abroad. It tackles the root causes of migration, guided by the principles of Catholic teaching.
Opps. Lyin' Just Deranged is even Catholic. Is dishonestly exploiting religion for POTUS Musk's ends a special class of sin? We already know that "false witness" alone is Commandment level sinful. Go to Hell, Just Deranged, literally.

The Pope is in the hospital with respiratory problems; been there a few days. He's pretty old, too. There was an Irish saint, Malachy, who predicted that there would only be 112 popes to reign from the point of his prediction and that that 112th Pope would be the one to reign when the Catholic Church falls and Judgement Day arrives. The current Pope is #112

In other news, god is going to smite SCOTUS:
Supreme Court declines to hear appeal from Christian fire chief who wanted to make it easier to sue for discrimination

The Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear the appeal of a California fire chief who claimed he lost his job because of his Christian faith, a case that could have made it easier for Americans to win discrimination lawsuits against employers.

Ronald Hittle, a 24-year veteran of the fire department in Stockton, California, said he was fired after attending a two-day Christian conference on city time. The city countered that Hittle had been instructed to attend a “leadership” conference and told the high court in a brief that the chief had a long history of disobeying direction from superiors.

Two conservative justices – Clarence Thomas and Neil Gorsuch – dissented from the decision to deny the case.

Represented in part by the First Liberty Institute, which has filed several successful religious claims at the Supreme Court in recent years, Hittle asked the Supreme Court to toss out a 1973 precedent, McDonnell Douglas Corp. v. Green, that has for decades dictated how discrimination claims are reviewed in federal courts....

It's no secret that god wants you to die; that's what the whole thing is all about. Just today I read about some Christian asshole preacher who founded the "biggest church in Texas" had been indicted for sexually fiddling around with a 12 year old girl and did it for four years. Praise the lord.
These motherfuckers make me sick. The asshole is not in custody. Mabye because he's rich, religious, and white. I bet he kills himself; after all, isn't that also a sin? Hell, what isn't?

Some good news for a change:

Christianity declines in the U.S. while 'religiously unaffiliated' grows, study finds

https://www.npr.org/2025/02/27/nx-s1-53 ... tudy-finds
The share of Americans who identify as Christian is dropping, and those who say they're religiously unaffiliated now make up a major portion of the U.S. population. NPR religion correspondent Jason DeRose has more from a new Pew Research study.

JASON DEROSE, BYLINE: Sixty-two percent of U.S. adults now say they're Christian. That's down from the 78% Pew found in a similar survey back in 2007. However, that number has stabilized more recently. Greg Smith with Pew Research says the change is related to what he calls generational shifts.
