White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller says President Donald Trump is looking for ways to expand its legal power to deport migrants who are in the United States illegally. To achieve that, he says the administration is “actively looking at” suspending habeas corpus, the constitutional right for people to legally challenge their detention by the government.

Such a move would be aimed at migrants as part of the Republican president’s broader crackdown at the U.S.-Mexico border.

“The Constitution is clear, and that of course is the supreme law of the land, that the privilege of the writ of habeas corpus can be suspended in a time of invasion,” Miller told reporters outside the White House on Friday.

If suspended only for a specific group, can't they just claim anyone as an illegal immigrant and ship them off? If you don't have your day in court, you have no chance to prove otherwise.

This is reminiscent of past instances of countries claiming someone to be a kulak, a covert CIA agent, a counter revolutionary and the government doing as they please. This is just the the modern day American twist.

Federal judge won’t block Trump’s plan to use IRS data to track down undocumented migrants

A federal judge won’t block a controversial Trump administration initiative to share highly sensitive taxpayer information with federal immigration authorities in hopes of tracking down undocumented immigrants and quickly deporting them out of the country.

District Judge Dabney Friedrich on Monday rejected arguments from several immigrant-rights groups, that claimed the data-sharing agreement between the Internal Revenue Service and Immigration and Customs Enforcement violated taxpayer confidentiality laws.

Dabney was appointed by DonOLD, of course Hateful xenophobia is the excuse for sacrificing the privacy of all of us.

... The data-sharing deal allows DHS, which oversees ICE, to ask the IRS to confirm home addresses of suspected undocumented immigrants who are suspected of defying deportation orders. The deal was pushed through in early April over the objections of several top career IRS officials, who refused to sign it because of legal concerns.

Those concerns stemmed from the fact that federal laws strictly limit when the IRS can share taxpayer information with other agencies. The IRS can share data to aid criminal investigations, but the tax agency can’t share data solely to facilitate deportations, which are a civil matter.
