World Series
I only follow baseball starting in the playoffs, but for anyone who's interested, the Giants are leading 6-zip in the 6th.

I seem to be talking to myself on this thread. But has anyone noticed the obesity trend to be encroaching on pro baseball? As in Detroit pitcher Valverde and first baseman Prince Fielder? Not to mention Giants Sandoval. Roly poly dudes.

Re: World Series
I at one time many many years ago used to do about 35-40 games per year including a few W-S games. I was at the last game in Philly before the last strike in Aug. of 94 I think it was. I sat in a season ticket box in right field and for the first and only time felt is was OK to throw all we had at Dykstra in ctr. field, he was an outspoken rep. for the Phills at the time. These guy make millions and usually end up in jail and broke and they wanted more. I have never been to a game since and rarely watch anymore. Only went to a hand full of football games since then also. Went to a football game every week for about 5 or 6 years. Sometime went on Sunday Thursday and Monday all in the same week. Real jobs would kill many of the guys.
I had a cousin who played for the WhiteSox and one playing in the Giants farm system, Top Prospect and one who has a full ride to play Baseball and Football at Ga. Tech. He gave up football and now only plays baseball. Had a rough spring last year but has bounced back well this fall.

Roly poly is in O'Really. The Giants roly poly third basemen hit three homers two of which came off the Tiger's ace Verlander.
I guess you and Michelle Obama are the only two that are watching the world series to make weight checks.

Re: World Series
None of those guys was even close to Sandoval in girth. I'm not saying he's not good, and sure, he hit three home runs in one game after hitting only 12 in the entire rest of the season. But if you're an owner, paying the guy millions, don't you think you'd make him show up in the best shape he can get? Is he really better because he's fat, like some viking opera singer, or is he still really really good in spite of being fat?Vrede wrote:Babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson, Albert Pujols and now Kung Fu Panda, plus a single. OMG, there's a guy batting for SF who is named "Angel Pagan." I wonder if he's on Billy's cult list? I'd say his future political career is pretty low unless he stays in San Francisco.

Slugger leads South Carolina as blowouts rule early days of LLW
South Carolina snuck into the Little League World Series with a five-run rally over the defending 2024 champs Florida. But the club from Irmo, representing the Southeast region, is showing it belongs at the tournament, thanks in part to slugger-pitcher Joe Guiletti.
In the sixth inning of the regional final, the 2024 champions from Lake Mary, Florida, opted to walk Joe rather than face him with the game on the line. The decision came back to bite Lake Mary as Brady Westbrooks hit a walkoff three-run double to win that game 5-4.
When South Carolina made its LLWS debut on Thursday against Braintree, Massachusetts, Joe got his chance to hit and made the most of it. He doubled in his first at-bat and, with the bases loaded in the second inning, Joe smoked a line drive to left-center field that cleared the fence for a grand slam that gave his team an 8-0 lead.
"I'm just trying to hit it hard somewhere," he said postgame. "In my mind I was like, 'Please get over the wall.'"
Initially, he wasn't sure if the ball had the distance, but it cleared. The entire dugout emptied, swarming him as he crossed home plate. Joe is the first player from South Carolina, and only the sixth from the Southeast region, to hit a grand slam.
"I wish I (walked him)," Massachusetts manager Frank Fasoli said. His assistants suggested the move, but Fasoli ultimately decided to let Joe see a pitch. "That's on me, though."
Joe was a dual threat — he also pitched.
Going back to the mound after the grand slam, Joe flexed his bicep and pointed to the crowd, which brought the Irmo fans to their feet. He proceeded to strike out the side.
South Carolina ultimately won 13-0 in three and a half innings — the game was stopped under Little League scoring rules. Joe, who at 5-foot-10 is the tallest player on South Carolina by about three inches, pitched 3 ⅓ innings, striking out eight and didn't allow a hit. After he was off the mound, Massachusetts scrounged one, but the game was well out of reach.
It was the largest opening game shutout by an American team since 2015, when the Mid-Atlantic region defeated the Midwest, 18-0.

I enjoy the LLWS. I am impressed with how fundamentally sound the teams are. Obviously that is good coaching and one reason the teams have advanced this far.

LLWS: South Carolina rallies for stunning walk-off win after trailing 6-1 in final inning, stays alive for U.S. championship
South Carolina had to mount multiple rallies to advance. South Dakota held a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, the final half-inning of regulation.
South Carolina was down to its final out with runners on first and second. A Ryder Tillitz line-drive single loaded the bases, but didn't score a run. But Jacob Gibson worked a full-count walk to secure the game-tying run, ultimately sending the game to extras tied at 1-1.
There, chaos ensued. South Dakota scored a one-out run to take a 2-1 advantage before a Connor Felderman line drive for the second out. From there, South Dakota scored four two-out runs to seemingly take control of the game.
But South Carolina scored three runs before recording its first out of the bottom of the seventh, cutting South Dakota's lead to 6-4 on a bases-loaded walk. Then, with one out, Brady Westbrooks secured another bases-loaded walk on five pitches to cut the deficit to 6-5, setting Andrew Bogan for his walk-off heroics.
Bogan sent a 2-2 pitch down the right-field line that snuck just under the glove of diving right fielder Grayson Rehfeldt. Two runs scored, and the South Carolina benches cleared as players rushed to the field to celebrate the walk-off win.

Re: World Series
Ouch, good thing you skipped the trash talk. Jasmine wins 9-1, as did Bonney Lake Washington, Vancouver Canada and Chihuahua Mexico. ALL would get defeated on Tuesday, with only Vancouver scoring a run

Semis today:
Santa Cruz Aruba vs Barquisimeto Venezuela
Las Vegas Nevada vs Irmo South Carolina
Go Las Vegas for this game, then Go either Santa Cruz or Barquisimeto for the Championship!
