Maybe even UNC will qualify some year.
 Sure, maybe they'll be playing the Big10 Champion Terps for all the marbles. That would probably be about the same time that the Nomadic A's win the Series and Jasmine gets named WNBA commissioner. Of course, stranger things have happened - we do have Trump again as president*.

I just sense that UNC will be a soap opera with Belichick and his "brand new bag".

Wasn't UNC highly ranked a couple of years ago before flopping?

IMNVHO, "qualify" in NCAA football is a highly flexible concept. Right, Seminoles?

Not that I'll ever feel sympathy for FSU, but IMO once we've got 16 teams it's pretty hard to argue that a potential winner was excluded. Most years #16 or #17 is likely to suffer an early, painful and humiliating loss like #12 Clemson did this past season.

Jim Harbaugh, from Inglewood, California: The buck stops . . . in Ann Arbor.
:wtf:
Jim Harbaugh refuses comment after NCAA ruling on Michigan

Jim Harbaugh is refusing to comment on the NCAA's decision to fine the University of Michigan tens of millions of dollars and to suspend football coach Sherrone Moore for a third game due to the sign-stealing scandal that occurred during Harbaugh's tenure at his alma mater.

Harbaugh stayed mum on the Wolverines when he stepped to the podium at SoFi Stadium on Saturday night following his Los Angeles Chargers' 23-22 preseason loss to the Los Angeles Rams for his first interaction with the media since the NCAA's rulings were announced Friday.
If the sting of the Chargers' treason was starting to fade, America has renewed reason to hate them.
"Like I said to you last year, not engaging," Harbaugh said. "Not engaging."
Coward.
The NCAA sharply criticized Harbaugh's stewardship over the winningest program in college football when it announced the sanctions, saying it had "overwhelming" evidence of a cover-up by the Michigan staff. Harbaugh has always claimed he didn't know about the sign-stealing and scouting operation run by Connor Stalions.

Michigan only avoided a multiyear postseason ban because the NCAA decided it wasn't fair to the Wolverines' current student-athletes to penalize them for the misdeeds during Harbaugh's tenure, which culminated in a national championship in January 2024.
Needs an asterisk.
He jumped back to the NFL two weeks later with the Chargers, and the NCAA hit him in August 2024 with a four-year show-cause order for recruiting violations. Harbaugh now faces a 10-year show-cause order following the conclusion of the four-year order, which effectively serves as a 14-year ban from college football....
:happy-cheerleaderkid:

61, a flop in L.A. may mean we're rid of him for good. Fingers crossed.

So a guy legally buys a game ticket, sits in the public stands and takes vids of what he thinks may be signals, then goes back to his office and tries to figure out what the signals mean in case he sees those signals in a future game. And that's an offense worthy of "most heinous" award?

It is just the rules as established. Also, there were devious things like the assistant identifying as from another school. Keep in mind, this is from the NCAA which is quite a puzzle to begin with.

"quite a puzzle" is an understatement. If there is any organization more capable of making rules mountains out of molehills and taking nit-picking way past the limits of imagination, it's NCAA.

Edit: I probably shouldn't complain. Without all these picky rules we'd end up with a system where all the big-name schools with lots of money get most of the best players. Oh wait.

It's all more complicated than that and sometimes sidelines were used but yes, taking video "back to his office" was a clear violation of NCAA rules, whether one agrees with the rule or not.
Background on sign-stealing

Michigan hired videographers around the country, something many schools could not afford to do - competitive advantage. The penalties were not just for the sign-stealing, but also for the coverup, destruction of evidence, lies and noncooperation with the investigation. Hence, "most heinous".

Some coaches and analysts agree with you, most do not.

We've seen it before. DonOLD is learning that the coverup is worse than the crime, assuming there's no actual evidence of him raping minors or murdering Epstein.

Well, I've never liked Belichick, and didn't like his getting the UNC job. Without Brady, he's a mediocre coach and has an unnecessary air of assholiness. And the biggest age difference I've ever had in a serious-ish relationship was 11 years. There weren't any noticeable issues from that, but I really wouldn't want a 24-year old girlfriend personally. Nevertheless, I don't think he deserves a bunch of bashing over her, nor do I think he's being hornswaggled. I'm pretty sure he knows what's up. ;)
As if things weren't gimmicky enough:
Bill Belichick's UNC program to be focus of Hulu show

... In a social media video posted by the program Sunday, Belichick told the players that streaming provider Hulu will feature the Tar Heels in what he described as a seasonlong show "that will showcase our football program."
seasonlong  How are they going to "showcase" bikini shots of Jordon Hudson?
"It'll show our commitment to winning," Belichick told players. "It'll show our commitment to the team, and that's our priority."
Umm, you don't have Brady, and it's UNC. His tantrums when they lose might be entertaining.
... UNC opens the season on Labor Day against TCU in a college version of "Monday Night Football."
Normally easy for me to root for UNC vs the RW TX xtians. Now, I don't care.

TCU got 4 AP votes, UNC 0. TCU got 24 Coaches' votes, UNC 0.
https://www.espn.com/college-football/rankings
Strange choice for a Monday Night debut.

Maryland got 0 votes in both polls. :angry-banghead:
Montana is ranked #9 in FCS.
