Donny, are you ok?

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), illegal drug use is linked to over half a million deaths globally each year. Total population of US about 350million. So is Trump exaggerating intentionally, exaggerating out of ignorance, or just making up shit as he usually does?

Jon Stewart is hosting the Daily Show tonight in response to Kimmel.

Hope it's not his last show.

It was "petty" to take it down in the first place.

Wait - pettiness aside, am I to understand that you really think it's appropriate to have a painting honoring the leader of (an armed insurrection/rebellion) (country separated from the US), pick one, hanging in the US Military Academy? Taking the rhetoric out, a group of states declared themselves seceded from the United States. They picked "national" leaders; they issued Confederate money; they raised their own army; and they went to war against the United States, with a resultant loss of more than 600k lives, huge amount of resources, and social turmoil. Now you can believe they were in the right or in the wrong, but in what alternate universe does it make sense to honor the leaders of such a movement in the military academy?

😆

It's part of our history!

Yeah, hang a portrait of a traitor in a place of honor instead of a history museum.

Yeah, it's funny how some people can twist logic into more kinks than a pile of Christmas lights. They're perfectly content to keep some of the best ball players ever out of the honor of the Hall of Fame because of behaviour not related to their playing record, but have no problem with honoring those who took up arms against the US - even if it is part of "history." I believe it's hard to argue Pete Rose isn't a "part of history" too. Where is his painting/statue?

Just wait until they hang the portraits of Benedict Arnold and Julius Rosenberg next to Lee. History, right?

It was fine for decades and part of our history. History has treated General Lee well. Disagree if you choose.

History has treated George Washington well, too, but you don't find a big portrait of him hanging in Parliament

Did he really go with the history argument? :laughing-rolling:

I said awhile ago he's lost a step.

I may have understated.

Funny, eh? Actually even the history itself is pretty short. Statues, etc. only started popping up around the first of the 1900's, originally recognizing fallen soldiers, then moved on to honoring the traitor leaders, adding more in the 50's and then after the Civil Rights Act. Does he really want to go with the history argument? Maybe it would be good to think that through a little longer.

Lee did not want honors.

Is there a Harriet Tubman portrait at the USMA? She was a heroic scout, spy and nurse for the military.
History :-||

Lee was a Colonel when he resigned to become a traitor. Tubman outranks him. :---P
