Judge allows Pac-12 lawsuit against Mountain West to proceed

I don't care much about the lawsuit over "poaching fees". It will get settled or a jury will sort things out years from now. However, the conference realignment news is interesting:
... Colorado State, Utah State, San Diego State, Fresno State and Boise State are set to leave the Mountain West and join the Pac-12 starting in 2026. The conference added Texas State in June to reach the eight-team minimum to be eligible for an automatic bid for its champion in the College Football Playoff.
OR St and WSU rescued the Pac-12 after so many betrayed it.
:happy-cheerleaderkid:

Of interest to Jasmine:
... The Mountain West has added UTEP, Hawaii and Northern Illinois for football starting in 2026....
 Northern Illinois is in a conference called "Mountain".

Well, they're in an area called "West", too.

They really ought to change the conference names when they're jumbled beyond any recognition.
Two of the worst are "Big Ten", that has 18 members and "Atlantic Coast" that includes Cal, Stanford, and SMU

Not quite as bad but the SEC, which is really only 2 words, includes schools in KY, MO, OK and 2 schools in TX.

I don't think this season is going to help recruiting, either out of high schools or through the portal. Could be a bit of a while before the ummm, "rebuilding" gets done. Of course, there have been instances where a new "change agent" coach has a disastrous first year and wins a championship the next or so. There have also been teams that had almost instant buyer's regret, too.

Many will blame BB, but I also blame the AD and school admin. We predicted this mess before BB even arrived.

No. 7 Penn State searching for answers after loss to UCLA

:violin:
... A week after going toe-to-toe with No. 2 Oregon at home and dropping its first game of the season, No. 7 Penn State compounded its error in shocking fashion. Led by interim coach Tim Skipper, interim defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle and interim offensive coordinator Jerry Neuheisel, UCLA won 42-37, handing the preseason No. 2 team the biggest upset of this college football season and one of the worst losses of the Franklin era.

... Since 1936, only four teams ranked in the AP top 10 have lost to a team with a record of 0-4 or worse. The last time it happened was in 1985, when UTEP beat No. 7 BYU....
:---P
... Despite being favored by more than 20 points, the Nittany Lions came out flat and allowed UCLA's offense to dictate the tempo; the Bruins held possession of the ball for nearly 40 of the game's 60 minutes. They also successfully executed an onside kick in the first quarter and forced a fumble to start the second half.

"Nobody in the world expected us to win," UCLA cornerback Key Lawrence said. "Let's be honest here, like, everybody doubted us."

Coming into the game, UCLA ranked as the 134th offense in scoring; in its previous four games, it had scored a total of 57 points. Saturday's sudden offensive explosion was powered by a whopping 280 rushing yards, 128 of them by quarterback Nico Iamaleava, who gave Penn State's defense fits all game and scored five touchdowns -- three on the ground and two in the air.

AP Top 25

2 Miami (21) 5-0 up1 after winning @18 Florida State 28-22
3 Oregon (5) 5-0 down1. Fair enough, bye week. Next - 7 Indiana in Eugene.

Then, a bunch of teams advance 2-5 slots bc 20 Vanderbilt, 22 Iowa State, 25 Florida State all dropped after losses AND 7 PSU and 9 TX were "Dropped from rankings" entirely.

Washington got 10 votes (for beating MD?) and Auburn got 1 vote :D . MD lost its 7 votes. :(

Recruiting violations may be one of the "outs" for UNC and the buyout provisions of the contract. Having never coached in college before it is not inconceivable to have made some recruiting miscues.

Given the ridiculous rules of the NCAA on recruiting, it's not surprising that likely every team could be tagged, and that most of them probably try to push the line. But you don't pay a guy that much to get caught.
