Immigration

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Yeah, that's what I said. If you enter the country and apply for asylum, you've not committed a crime. The current administration has deported persons who have applied and are in the system. Hell, they've even gone to court hearings and seized people who appear for their immigration hearings. And that Abrego Garcia guy had a court ordered non deportation action but was deported anyway. Why do you not know all this?
The jackboots are going after citizens, too, sometimes twice in one morning - 'Driving while brown' is the racist probable cause. Then, they lie about it.

Dozens have been arrested and detained by federal agents in Charlotte, North Carolina, despite protests from the mayor and other local officials.

Good on the pols. Idk about community protest actions yet.

Have you made a call to ICE and reported all the Mexican migrants roaming Henderson County? Or have you made numerous calls and so far have seen no action?

I didn't. We don't need any more jackboots than we've got. Who do you think reported Charlotte-Mecklenburg?

We are fortunate to have a vibrant Hispanic population in Henderson County. The great majority are trying to assimilate while maintaining their heritage. I am confident if we begin having issues there will be different actions.

BTW, there were 81 detentions in Charlotte in the first five hours.

If I had to make a wild guess, I'd go with that Foxx NC Congresswoman even though I don't know if Charlotte is in her district. But if not her, I feel sure Charlotte ha its share of right wing sadists.

Better not write something like that on CPF. You'll be banned at the speed of light.

Barely more than fifteen an hour. Pitiful. Sounds like some kind of fraud, waste, and or abuse. Maybe all three.

I cannot comment on what other contributors to CPF would say. However, as a contributor there for over 10 years I can state that the majority of them support LEGAL immigration.

Sure but would they also support comprehensive immigration law reform so as to redefine what is LEGAL and make the immigration process more like it was before the 9/11 panic.

It would depend on what the law would say about the definition of legal. In reality, it is not so much about what the law, but how the law is enforced.

Laws do not exist in a vacuum. Right now, immigration laws are being "enforced" without regard to other more fundamental laws, such as requirements for probable cause, rights to representation, asylum application and appeals process, court procedures, etc.

I'm glad to see Buncombe Dems, HT-N and AC-T sharing 'know your rights' info, but the threat sounds nebulous at the moment. Asheville would be the smallest city yet invaded. I used to look forward to confrontations with LEOs, but to borrow neoplacebo's phrase the thought of it makes my ass drag and I'm sad for the terror felt in the Latino community. We'll see.

It's now up to 131 arrested in Charlotte. :(

We should not forget that there was a compromise, relatively con immigration reform bill on track for passage last year until candidate Dementia Don ordered a halt to it solely to advantage his campaign. :puke-left:

 And I'd say the majority of them do not even know what current US immigration law actually is. And from my limited exposure to them, I'd also say most CPFers don't know much about anything. Especially what's true and what isn't.

When I worked for Asheville Industries (Subsidiary of Newport News Shipbuilding) there was a young female electrical engineer who was married to an apple farmer in Hendersonville. I figure they hired undocumented immigrants every year at harvest time. No idea if they had trouble this year or even is they're still in the apple business.

I remember one year one of the bigger farmers decided that he would try to hire only non-immigrants for apple picking. His experiment failed miserably. At first there were applicants, but few followed through to show up and the ones that did performed poorly, many walking off the job the first day. And others just pulled the apples off, damaging the tree, instead of the correct gentle twist. Sure, one guy in one area, but that experience would be typical most anywhere. Farming isn't easy, and working on a farm requires skills.
