"Only 40% approve of Trump right now"
"Only"?? "Only"??? That anywhere near 40% of whoever they polled approve of Trump after all he's done - just in the first year - is a bonafide catastrophe and a sign the US we thought we had for 250 years isn't ever coming back.

-0-? Could be. Is it largely a 'cult of personality', a sign of how lame the current Dems are, or a true and long-lasting partisan shift?

Taylor wins to secure 5-2 liberal majority on Wisconsin Supreme Court

Chris Taylor, an appeals court judge and former Democratic lawmaker, was elected to an open seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court Tuesday, securing a 5-2 majority for the Court’s liberal wing and ensuring that control remains intact until at least 2030.

With nearly 80% of the vote counted shortly before 10 p.m., Taylor had a massive 20 point lead over Appeals Court Judge Maria Lazar, marking a four-election winning streak for the liberal candidates running for Wisconsin’s highest court. It also gives an early signal on the mood of the state’s voters ahead of this year’s midterm elections, when the governor’s office, majority control of the Legislature and a few competitive congressional seats will be up for grabs.

With ideological control of the body not at stake, the 2026 Supreme Court race was markedly lower energy this year. After the more than $100 million spent on last year’s race set national fundraising records for a judicial campaign, Taylor was able to win the race with $8 million in spending from her campaign and outside advocacy groups.

Turnout on Tuesday fell far short of the mark set last year, when the election’s stakes, its spot on the calendar shortly after President Donald Trump’s inauguration and Elon Musk’s effort to sway the race with millions of dollars of spending supercharged turnout among the state’s liberals.

Throughout the race, Crawford polled several points ahead of Lazar, however a large portion of the electorate, about 50%, continued to tell pollsters they remained undecided.

At an election night watch party at Madison’s Concourse Hotel, Taylor was surrounded by her family and introduced by Chief Justice Jill Karofsky.

... Throughout the campaign, Taylor sought to define herself as a careful judge who despite her history as policy director of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin and a Democratic state lawmaker would act as an independent voice on the bench. She often sought to position herself as a potential bulwark on the Court against efforts from Republicans and President Donald Trump to interfere with Wisconsin’s election system during the 2028 presidential race.

Taylor will now join Justices Jill Karofsky and Susan Crawford to be the third former Dane County Circuit Court judge to sit on the state Supreme Court. Under its current liberal majority, the Court overturned Wisconsin’s 1849 criminal abortion ban and declared the state’s gerrymandered legislative maps unconstitutional.

... “The victory Wisconsinites delivered tonight is an indictment of Trump and Tom Tiffany, who are using the federal government to bully and intimidate people into submission,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Devin Remiker said in a statement. “Our state Supreme Court has repeatedly shown it is the last line of defense against the federal government’s unconstitutional overreach, and with tonight’s election, we have secured a pro-freedom, pro-democracy majority on the Court through 2030. This victory is only the beginning of the fight ahead to win a Democratic trifecta in November and deliver real, lasting change for the working people of Wisconsin.”
:happy-cheerleaderkid:

Tom Tiffany is a GQP US Rep, member of the "Freedom" Caucus and candidate for governor in 2026. I wouldn't bet on him. Wisconsin is looking solidly blue for the foreseeable future.

CNN is in WNC, reporting on how high gas prices are going to hurt the tourist economy and what effect that might have on red rural districts across the country.

Gas is averaging $4.60 near me. I've taken to filling up with a quarter tank left to fool myself and avoid sticker shock. :o

Bought it yesterday at my "cheap" spot for %5.49. Had about a half a tank, but thought I'd get some before it goes up again. Six weeks ago it was $3.89.

Yeah it's Canadian dollars, but litres converted to gallon. USD conversion doesn't help much if you actually live there.

NEW: Trump-Backed Challenger Gains Momentum Against Graham In SC Primary
March 22, 2026

A recent Pulse Opinion Research poll reveals a dramatic shift in the dynamics of the South Carolina Republican primary for the Senate seat currently occupied by incumbent Lindsey Graham. The poll, commissioned by his challenger Mark Lynch, indicates that Graham’s hold on the electorate may be slipping....
What's better - Graham’s sporadic sanity or the weakness of a rookie MAGAt?

Erika Kirk flops:
Turning Point sees massive failure in Arizona utilities race
Amid rising energy costs, the conservative group went all in on trying to win control of an influential utilities board in Arizona. And it came up short.

Conservative activist group Turning Point USA suffered an embarrassing defeat this week in a slate of elections involving a relatively obscure utilities board in Arizona.

Turning Point’s involvement in the elections for board members to oversee metropolitan Phoenix’s Salt River Project — the state’s largest public utility company and one of the largest in the nation — added an extra layer of controversy and brought national attention to local elections that, otherwise, may have centered solely on residents’ concerns about rising energy costs.

TPUSA and its sister organization, Turning Point Action, expended significant resources to try to help their preferred candidates win a majority of the board’s seats — and they failed mightily.

While Turning Point-backed candidates won the presidential and vice presidential seats, a group of candidates that campaigned as the “Clean Energy Team” emerged with an 8-6 majority on the board, which has the power to regulate energy costs. As The New York Times explained, the result means “proponents of renewable power will control the utility’s policymaking for the first time.”

It’s not an encouraging result for Republicans as they head into the November midterm elections. President Donald Trump and his allies have struggled to quell growing backlash over energy costs and some of their root causes — such as the rapid development of new data centers. In this case, one of the most well-known conservative groups in America weighed in on the debate, only to see its chosen candidates take a drubbing. And the election results came on the same day voters in Wisconsin effectively rebuked Trump’s data center ambitions.

It certainly looks like the GOP is staring down a wave of energy-related backlash heading into this fall’s elections.

Turning Point leadership absurdly tried to frame the results as a smashing success, but it’s notable that even some conservatives seem skeptical of the spin. This post on X from Maricopa County Supervisor Thomas Galvin — in which the Republican called Turning Point Action’s performance a complete “botch job” — is a prime example.

Graham has been unbelievably fortunate not to have a viable candidate challenge him in primaries. I suspect South Carolina GOP voters are searching for someone other than Graham.

Eric Swalwell will soon drop out of the June 2, 2026 California gubernatorial election primary, one which could put two RepuQs on your Nov ballot :problem: . There are only a few names I recognize:
Xavier Becerra

Katie Porter, I like her
Tom Steyer
Eric Swalwell
Antonio Villaraigosa
all Dems
Republicans lead California governor poll; endorsement may jolt primary

... The EVITARUS poll released Tuesday, April 7, shows conservative commentator Steve Hilton and Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco tied with 14% of likely voters, a slight shift from a poll released two weeks earlier that showed Hilton leading with 16% and Bianco just behind with 14%.

However, the poll was completed just before President Donald Trump endorsed Hilton in the California governor’s race, a move that some political experts believe may shakeup the primary election.

The Democratic candidates have also slightly shifted, with Congressman Eric Swalwell capturing 12% of likely voters, climate advocate Tom Steyer 11%, and former Congresswoman Katie Porter with 7%. Candidates Xavier Becerra, Matt Mahan, and Antonio Villaraigosa each hold 4% of likely voters, while Betty Yee and Tony Thurmond follow, each capturing 1%.

Twenty-four percent of likely voters remain undecided, which is unchanged from two weeks ago....
Ut-oh.
