Ombudsman, God chose us, all..... long ago. We are the one's who are given the choice to choose Him. As Stinger noted, personality is a determining factor
in human behavior towards others; there are those in all walks of life who for some reason or the other feel that they are better than others, but the ground is level at the foot of the Cross.

It's part of the Christian belief system to spread the nonsensical word to others.

Just out of curiosity---what do you mean? From what I know about the Bible, I believe that means that God gave us a choice whether or not to acceptOmbudsman wrote:You just can't help yourself. Why is that? The Piper wrote:Ombudsman, God chose us, all..... long ago. We are the one's who are given the choice to choose Him. :
Him as Lord of our lives. I don't go to church for personal reasons, but I believe there is a supreme creator. There are those who do not believe in God at all, and like BB,
believe that religion is ridiculous.
Given the fact that man has a free will to choose would be my take on what The Piper means.
Of all those in this forum who deny the existence of God, or frown on Christians, I find it ironic that you were the one most insulted by Piper's remarks.

I think an "and/or" would be more appropriate there, Leo. Ones can certainly believe in God and still find religion ridiculous.Leo Lyons wrote:. There are those who do not believe in God at all, and like BB,

I could be wrong, of course, but I doubt the thread would have veered off of Oklahoma aid and into the religion tangent if Piper hadn't brought it in from the first. I don't think there are many, if any, who would argue that solely because an organization is religion-based that it's otherwise laudable charitable efforts should be derided. Problem comes in when an organization uses the "time share" model and say (in effect, not literally) "you can have this food (or whatever) but you have to listen to a hard sales spiel."
That does not seem to be the case in this organization, and I commend their efforts.

What I meant by my personal reasons.

Piper et al have been ridiculed for some remarks on religious issues. I saw where he was coming from the first time I read it; and I didn't see anything offensive. Ombudsman was the one who started slinging the shit because he got offended like a little school girl. I believe Piper was attempting to ward off any negativism and "snark" about posting a Christian organization heading up a relief effort.

I wouldn't know if they do that in that manner myself, but I have heard of attempts to hand out gospel tracts and church-related literature,
but I've not heard of forcing anyone to take anything, just as the donation pleas that started this thread isn't forcing anyone to give anything.
Ombudsman just has his ass on his shoulders and is making a mountain out of a molehill. Getting his heart in the right place seems to be a problem for him,
and he's blaming others for his shortcomings.

Maybe, but face it, some people walk around with a chip. Without question, there is discrimination, derision and ridicule directed toward fat people. But if somebody started out saying "if you're willing to accept a donation from a fat person, I'll give you $100" they might expect some offense returned at the implication that the recipient is one of those who is automatically biased against fat people. Point being, if Piper had just said "this is a good organization doing good things for Oklahoma" he might have gotten some negative comments. But he might not. He didn't bother to wait to find out, he just poked the bear in the eye in a preemptive strike.

Speaking of the Oklahoma disaster, did anybody notice that the Republicans had declined to fund the construction of safe shelter in those elementary schools when they were built? Or that both Oklahoma Republican Senators voted against the aid bill for Sandy? Hopefully the citizens will remember that at the next election, but I doubt it. A lot of Republicans tend to vote against their own interests. Might tell you something about their "thought" process.

Re: Oklahoma Disaster Relief
Let it be known, a religious charity was stickied for a day on a "Godless heathen forum". Proving yet again, most religious people just don't get it. We're not anti-religious, just pro-reason. (Not to speak for all atheists.)

Well to me being pro-reason more or less means being anti-religious to some
extent, much of religion lacking in rationality IMHO, but rationalists will have
their own individual opinion on the matter. I congratulate both the Christian
and free-thinker charities for their aid to the folks in Oklahoma.

I don't know. If Piper had just posted, "Here's a great place to donate for Oklahoma aid," I'm saying it's at least 50/50 that someone would have made a remark about the great place being a religious organization.O Really wrote: I could be wrong, of course, but I doubt the thread would have veered off of Oklahoma aid and into the religion tangent if Piper hadn't brought it in from the first.
I've known a number of people, family included, who have loaded up from little country churches nearby and headed to New Orleans, the Gulf coast of Texas, and other places, slept in third-world arrangements, and served up food and water for weeks.
The bad part for any disaster area is after the "new" wears off. Everybody goes home, and the area still needs years (and more money) to recover.

Or just a small percentage of the taxes Apple inc dodged last year.Stinger wrote:

Estimated damage = 2 Billion
Taxes Dodged by one corp? = 9 Billion?

I agree that Piper started off on the wrong foot, and I also agree that Ombuddy whined the loudest, and I also agree that Ombuddy is an asshole.
Piper must have struck one of Ombuddy's raw nerves that sent him into a tailspin.

VD, watch your back, Ombuddy is following you as well as Banni.
In another thread, he's already admitted to peeping while Banni was pleasuring himself.
