Your Cubbies are just rude. First they refuse to beat the Dodgers and then come here and embarrass the Padres at home!
May Billy re-descend upon your house.

Lee didn't make it through August.

But it did lead into the 1984 season.
Damn you Padres, Gatorade glove and mlb for taking away our home field advantage!

A theory is that the Cubs were deprived of home-field advantage for the 1984 National League Championship Series (NLCS) because they could not host night games. There are accounts of MLB executives becoming frustrated throughout the 1984 MLB season and when it started to become clear in mid-August that the Cubs were very likely going to win the division, TV money was at stake. The networks then covering postseason games — NBC and ABC — could have lost millions if they had to cover those games at the then-lightless Wrigley Field on weekday afternoons. This was considered by MLB moguls to be important for the World Series and ultimately leads some to believe there may have been collusion leading to the Cubs losing three straight games to the San Diego Padres.

Also:

Before the season began, Grammy Award winning artist Steve Goodman recorded the tune "Go Cubs Go" which was played as the lead-in music for the radio broadcast on WGN radio. Goodman, who died just days before the Cubs clinched the division, also recorded "A Dying Cubs Fan's Last Request". Since the 2007 season, the song has been played at Wrigley Field after victories; the practice continues to this day.[16

The Wiki article doesn't mention "Gatorade glove". :headscratch:

The rest of the story:
However, from 1969 to 1984, the LCS were five-game series played in a 2-3 format. The NL West and AL East champs hosted the first two games in odd years and the NL East and the AL West hosted the first two games in even years. Thus, no changes were made to the NLCS schedule due to Wrigley Field's lack of lights.

It is true that Major League Baseball announced in August 1984 that if the Cubs were to make the World Series, the first game would be moved to the American League park, to maximize the television revenues from night games. In 1984, the series was to be a seven-game series in a 2-3-2 format with the NL hosting the first two and last two games.
Opps.
San Diego won the series, 3–2.
Ouch, after the Cubs won the first 2. Epic choke.

Death

On September 20, 1984, Goodman died of leukemia at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. He was 36 years old.

On October 2, after clinching the National League East division title, the Cubs played their first postseason game since the 1945 World Series. Filling in for Goodman, who had been scheduled to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" before the game, Jimmy Buffett dedicated the song to him.

In April 1988, some of Goodman's ashes were scattered at Wrigley Field, the home of the Cubs, paralleling lyrics from "A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request".

Goodman was survived by his wife and three daughters.

If you know, you know.

Leon Durham is widely remembered for an error that he made at first base during the 1984 National League Championship Series. In the bottom of the seventh inning in the decisive fifth game[2] between Durham's Chicago Cubs and the San Diego Padres, the Padres sent pinch-hitter Tim Flannery to face the Cubs' ace pitcher Rick Sutcliffe.

Through the top of the sixth inning, the Cubs had a 3–0 lead, aided by Durham's home run off Eric Show in the first inning.[3] In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Padres cut the Cubs' lead to 3–2 with a pair of singles by Alan Wiggins and Tony Gwynn, a walk to Steve Garvey, and sacrifice flies by Graig Nettles and Terry Kennedy. The bottom of the seventh inning kicked off with Carmelo Martínez walking on four pitches from Sutcliffe. Garry Templeton then sacrificed Martínez to second, setting things up for Tim Flannery. Martinez would then score when Flannery hit a sharp grounder that trickled through Leon Durham's legs for an error.

Groundball hit to Durham...RIGHT THROUGH HIS LEGS!!! Here comes Martínez, we're tied at three!

— ABC's Don Drysdale calling Cubs first basemen Leon Durham's crucial error in the bottom of the seventh inning in Game 5 of the 1984 NLCS.
The error became known as the "Gatorade Glove Play" because before taking his position in the field that inning, Gatorade was spilled on Durham's glove. Some Cub fans believe the Gatorade spilled on Durham's glove amounted to a curse, similar to the goat and, later, Bartman curses of Cub lore.

Instead of the Cubs maintaining a 3–2 lead with two outs and a runner at third, the game was now tied 3–3 with a runner at first and just one out. An Alan Wiggins single followed, and Tony Gwynn's hard hit ball skipped over second baseman Ryne Sandberg for a two-RBI double. The Padres scored another run in the inning, and went on to win 6–3 to reach the World Series for the first time ever. The Cubs had won the first 2 games of the series (1984 marked the last time that the League Championship Series was a best-of-five series) over the Padres. Incidentally, Durham went 3-for-20 in the NLCS, garnering two of his three hits in the final two games on home runs (his shot in Game 4 had given the Cubs a 3–2 lead).[4]

The play would also turn out to be very similar, in style and effect, to Bill Buckner's much-discussed error in the 1986 World Series. The coincidental connection between these two events is that Durham had been moved from the outfield to first base during the 1984 season, replacing Buckner after the Cubs traded him to the Boston Red Sox for pitcher Dennis Eckersley. Buckner's error, like Durham's, would be seen as turning a post-season series around. The same joke even circulated for both incidents: That they had been despondent, jumped in front of a moving truck, and "the truck went between their legs".

I know it's only the first week of May, but so far the Cubs have been incredibly fun to watch.

Three straight walk offs, hasn't been done since 1932.

"hasn't been done" by anyone or just the Cubs?

#3: :headscratch: The bases weren't loaded. Are walks in extra innings now automatic runs?

Pooor Reds. At least it didn't happen to them at home.

Swept the Reds today, four straight! Reds went from second place to last place!

Nine game win streak and fifteen straight home wins!
