The special forces soldier allegedly made more than $400,000 on Polymarket as a result of the bets, prosecutors say.

... The soldier was identified as Gannon Ken Van Dyke in a news release announcing the indictment.

... Van Dyke was charged with “unlawful use of confidential government information for personal gain, theft of nonpublic government information, commodities fraud, wire fraud, and making an unlawful monetary transaction.”

“The charges arise from an alleged scheme in which Van Dyke used sensitive classified information to make wagers on Polymarket,” the statement from the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York said.

In a statement, prediction site Polymarket said, "When we identified a user trading on classified government information, we referred the matter to the DOJ & cooperated with their investigation."

Prosecutors said they plan to retry disgraced lawyer Alex Murdaugh on murder charges in the shooting deaths of his wife and younger son after the state Supreme Court on Wednesday overturned his conviction and life sentence.

In a unanimous ruling Wednesday, the South Carolina Supreme Court said the conduct by the court clerk "egregiously attacked Murdaugh's credibility" by suggesting to jurors his testimony could not be trusted. They also said the trial judge went too far in allowing evidence of Murdaugh's financial crimes into his murder trial....

Everyone deserves a fair trial, but this soap opera rerun will be bad for the country and terrible for you and me.
