What amazes me most is that instead of taking the opportunity to learn or at least broaden their horizons, the wingnutters dismiss this opportunity in favor of sticking together in some kind of altered state.....not that I have anything against altered states, but theirs is not the sort of altered state I prefer.O Really wrote:Except that real lemmings are smarter.bannination wrote:

That idiotic gasbag thinks anyone to the left of McCain is a Marxist, hell
he probably thinks McCain himself is a Marxist. Just like the old time nut-
jobs on BRN, these folks have no clue what a socialist or Marxist is.
Now here's something hilarious. They have started a history thread over at
Nutjob Central. Can you imagine these dopes starting a history thread, when
they know nothing about history? One of the nutters knows that the U.S. was
the first country on the planet to abolish slavery. Um....wrong, dumbass. So
much for history.

Yep, wiki has a good timeline of the abolition of slavery. After Napoleon
came to power, he made slavery in Haiti legal again. What a guy.

As I understand it, slaves outnumbered free people in Europe all through the Greek and Roman eras and into the Medieval era. What ended slavery was the invention of the rigid horse collar.Bungalow Bill wrote:One of the nutters knows that the U.S. was the first country on the planet to abolish slavery. Um....wrong, dumbass.
Before the rigid horse collar, a horse could do four times the work of a man. But it also ate four time as much food, so the more flexible slaves were a better deal.
After the rigid horse collar, a horse could do TEN times the work of a man. But it still only ate four time as much food. It was now the better deal.
And so European slavery ended until 500 years later until a market developed (America, where aboriginals had slavery and traded to settlers) a source developed (newly explored Africa, where slavery was common), and a need developed (cotton).

I guess I should have said he tried to impose slavery again and was defeated
in that attempt. Premature Waterloo.

And this song came out of all that.
