This just pushes Mr. B's argument about evolution and god one step further back; you know, god set the values of the electrons and all that, and I totally realize this, but it's science that will make him reevaluate what he accepts in the future, and not his beliefs."
OK....let's see....10,000 years subtract 6,000 years=a value of 4,000 years...multiplied by an electron value of 25,000 basic atoms multiplied by a statistical value of 0.....considering a formula of x/y minus 10 comes to....aww, fuhgetaboutit....I'm getting a headache.

This may or may not be the common though among the majority if Christians, it just was around the ones I grew up with. Again though, I wasn't arguing for or against that train of thought.
If life was abundant elsewhere that would be presented as evidence of the glory of God. Throughout the millennia religion has been tailored to physical reality but I'm unaware of any times it's gone the other way around.
In my particular group of peoples it had to do with the fact that god only created Adam and Eve. They could use this to be smarter than those stupid scientists that were searching for more life for no reason. Another weird one was the thought that all the water on earth was once in our atmosphere as a protective bubble, and that's why people lived longer. "The flood" was the destruction of that protective bubble, and all that water falling to earth.
I'm not saying that's a common Christian thought, that was just my own experiences.

:-0?> What?!? That IS a weird one... ..never heard that one before! :-0?>

Uhhh....maybe because you live in your own widdle bubble?

Nah, wasn't really a bubble, just things I'd heard from different people throughout the years. I think that's one of the problems believing in something with no evidence. There's really no telling the limits of what you'll accept.
I read on Yahoo news today that on October 19, the self professed Biblical scholar Joseph Atwill will announce that he has evidence that the Roman aristocracy manufactured Jesus Christ. He says the "faith system" was merely a political tool invented to control the masses, and also as a tempering or counter influence to first century Jewish insurrection and missionary work in the Empire. His theory is based on the writings of Josephus in the first century tract "War of the Jews." I find it curious that his date for the announcement is right about the time the US runs out of money should the wingnuts persist in their crrusade. I suppose Atwill's theory is logical.....the Romans invented him and they then got rid of him.
Religion has always been a good means of control by leadership. Do this, or you'll burn in hell is amazing motivation if you can get a populace to believe it.
No doubt about it. Our currency now is "faith based" and that's why it's really unnerving to me that the wingnuts apparently don't realize it, much less the consequences of causing that "faith" to be broken. The only good side of it to me is that it's probably making Bank of America nervous, too.

Yep, they're still trying....the gummit says we can't pray to Jesus because we'll offend the Jews and Muslims.....
No, it doesn't. It says if you are part of the gummint you can't make anybody else pray with you. You personally may pray whenever, whereever, and to whomever you like and that right is protected by the Constitution and defended by the ACLU. You're welcome.

Probably true ... dying at 82 ... it was way after Methuselah after all...
(Oh, heck, I'm probably going to hell for this comment)

B is right, to an extent. You can still pray to Jesus, you just can't say his name out loud in a public place. That's what offends the Obama-ites, the ACLU, the liberals, Muslims, Jews, queers, and any other far out collection of idiots that the ACLU can dig out of some shit hole. Religion, ha!
You're welcome too.

Don't you have some chores to do before your mother returns?
Of course you can say Jesus' name in public. I call my landscape guy all the time.
But past that, if you want to mention the other Jesus in public, of course any private citizen not at work on his government job can do that too.
