Let's start with ME deliberately mischaracterizing the race of Zimmerman.

You are a coy one, are you not? Why did you not equally object to me referring to Trayvon in turns as, "small child," "toddler," fetus," and "zygote?"

We both know why. It gave you no opportunity to point the bony and fraudulent finger of racism at me. But it had THIS in common with my false references to Zimmerman's race: both were parodies of the lies that the press created for their false narrative of racism against a little boy.

Your strained effort to make me out a racist is quite in keeping with the entire meme that this case represents. It is a FOREGONE CONCLUSION that to defend Zimmerman is to court - nay, BE THE TARGET OF - accusations of racism. I have seen hundreds of pages on this topic, and never have I NOT seen the race card played by the Trayvon cheerleaders. If you had an honest bone in your body, you would readily acknowledge that the press played up a black/white narrative which simply did not meet the facts on the ground. I have one more point to make on the race issue - or rather, make again, that it not be lost. So far, you have failed to answer it, other than to complain that I made it.

You equated pissing off a black teen with smart mouthing a group of bikers. That is telling. You appear to consider black teens to be dangerous thugs - as dangerous as an entire gang of bikers.

I was a teenager, sir. And I was often the target of adult suspicions - sometimes rightly so, sometimes wrongly so. I was questioned more than once by older adult males whose only authority to question me was my respect for their social status. They were adults. I was a kid, and kids - especially young males - are, more often than any other demographic, mischief makers. It never once occurred to me to pound on any of these adults - even though it would have been as easy as cutting butter in many cases. I was young an strong; they were older and no match for me physically.

The society that your permissive attitude would give us, I reject. The very idea that some punk kid has the right to jump and pummel an adult for having the audacity to have his suspicions piqued by that kids behavior - the very notion is atrocious. So is the idea that it's only okay if the kid is not black. It's just awful.

My God, man. You are an ADULT. You should be GLAD that there are people who are public spirited enough to care about some kid scoping your home, in an area rife with burglaries. And let us not step over the fact that it later came out that Trayvon was in possession of burgled items, sir. Thank you. I think that the issue needs to be re-thought by all concerned. It is currently discussed exclusively in cartoons, with each side picturing the civil war.

The civil war, while ABOUT secession, began with the rebels firing on fort sumter. It is NOT a foregone conclusion that all future attempts at secession will be initiated outside the court room. Nor is it out of the realm of possibility that the THREAT of secession might become a political tool at some point in the near future.

I truly believe that the issue will eventually see the front burner of American history. I am willing to go into why I believe that, but for now, I will just say that I see it on the horizon. So the issue is, IMHO, timely.

There is something important that happened between Sherman's March to the Sea and yesterday's coffee - something that you and I lived through and were rapt witnesses to. And that was the peaceful dissolution of the Soviet union. There are many other salient historical happenings which will likewise comment on the issue, not least of which is the formation of the U.N. and the World Court and the WTO. Then there is the fact that "war" as we know it is no longer war as we knew it (in the 1860s). I believe that a "war between the states" is utterly unthinkable at this point in the world's history. It simply WILL NOT HAPPEN, for a multitude of reasons (some listed in this paragraph).

So we have this enormous issue which is only being discussed in cartoon terms, and I find that very unappealing - very unworthy of a rather juicy topic.

That said, I am interested to know what you think small government conservatives SHOULD do to regain a voice in their party? Or should they abandon it?

This is not to suggest that the teabaggers uniformly fit the description of small government conservatives. I think a great many who answer to the teabagger label want a government big enough to run torture chambers. But they ARE what exists of an insurgency in a party that is sitting pretty for an insurgency.
