I suspect that the teaparty was not originally astroturf, but was quickly overtaken - just like Occupy. The Occupy movement here in Vegas was entirely co-opted by the democrats faster than you could shake a stick.Vrede wrote:My shorter answer, one indicated by others already, is that the only reasonable Republican revolution is one that represents what America is and is becoming. The astroturf TP has chosen the opposite direction and is thus doomed to failure and impotent frustration.

Fox news is the radical rightwing progressive heart of today's republican party. Frankenstein's monster, in the en, destroys his master.rstrong wrote:And find a way to reign in Fox News. Even if the kochs were out front on the TP, they were merely heading off the mavericks. It should be rather obvious to all and sundry that when radical progressives occupy and overtake a conservative party, there will ultimately be a counter-movement.
FWIW, you can find the confluence of today's republican party and hitler's national socialist movement in the University of Chicago's economics department. Leo Strauss was hitler's chief academic apologist and economic booster, until his Jewishness could no longer be brooked. He then moved to Chicago to preach the same exceptionalism to his disciple Irvin Kristol, who passed it on to his son William. American exceptionalism is no different than Nazi exceptionalism, and our culturally demanded "support the troops" meme is right out of hitler's playbook.
Lyndon Larouche made these distinctions and landed in prison.

That's my point. Reagan threw ideology out the window. Doing what Big Business / Banks / Media wants will get you the campaign money NOW, regardless of how it harms the country later.Cannonpointer wrote:Reagan....

According to the donation page: "Federal Election Law requires political committees to report the name, mailing address, occupation and name of employer for each individual whose contributions aggregate in excess of $200 in a calendar year."neoplacebo wrote:Go for it....I suggest five dollars Canadian and an appropriate note.rstrong wrote:I followed the link at the bottom, leading to the Tea Party Leadership Fund. I'm tempted to give them a donation. (Especially with their notice that "Contributions from foreign nationals or entities are prohibited.")
Gad. They're sure tempting me to donate over $200.

Re: Wingnutties out of control!
I noticed a story about former Democratic US House of Representatives Speaker Jim Wright was denied a "voter id" card in Texas recently. Turns out his credentials, along with his recently expired Texas drivers license and his TCU faculty ID were not sufficient. Jim is 90 years old. A couple of weeks ago I saw a story on ABC about a female judge in Texas who was refused the right to vote because the identification she'd used for the past 53 years to vote is no longer valid. And the wingnuts swear the voter id laws they gleefully passed do nothing but "fix" the voter fraud "problem." Dumbasses.

Wright may have been denied a "voter ID" card, but my prediction

The story indicated he was eventually able to obtain the "proper" identification. A lot of others may not, though. "So be it" as the former local GOP chieftain would say.

Re: Wingnutties out of control!
TCU isn't a state university, thus that ID would not be "state issued." His DL expired three years or so ago. But the point is well made. The plan to exclude large numbers of non-Republican voters appears to be working.neoplacebo wrote:The story indicated he was eventually able to obtain the "proper" identification. Damn...what happened ya'll? One would think that McAuliffe should have won in a Christie like landslide. Instead he barely pulled out a squeaker. Gee I wonder what it was that changed so many folk's minds in those last couple of weeks. You idiots keep thinking you are on the winning side in this....even the dim senators up in November know better now and are BEGGING for help from the administration.Vrede wrote:
Q: (Among LIKELY voters) If the election were being held today and the candidates were (Terry McAuliffe, the Democrat), (Ken Cuccinelli, the Republican), and (Robert Sarvis running as a Libertarian), for whom would you vote?
McAuliffe (D) 51%
Cuccinelli (R) 39%
Sarvis (L) 8%
Q: (Among likely voters) On another topic, as you may know, the candidates in November's election for Lieutenant Governor include (Ralph Northam, the Democrat) and (E.W. Jackson, the Republican). If that election were being held today would you vote for
McAuliffe (D) 53%
Cuccinelli (R) 42%
The GOP is even losing among Libertarians and McAuliffe's margin would be even wider without one in the race.

Re: Wingnutties out of control!
I'm wondering why the wingnuts, and Sarah Palin in particular, haven't come out with some sort of "nanny state" bullshit over the impending banning of trans fats by the FDA (a big government agency) like they did when the NYC mayor pushed to ban the big big soda drinks. It's been several days since the announcement and I've not heard a peep from the wingunt gallery so far.

It's probably the 'trans' prefix that's doing it. They think it's some sort of deviant cooking oil, so a ban won't wad too many RWNJ panties.neoplacebo wrote:I'm wondering why the wingnuts, and Sarah Palin in particular, haven't come out with some sort of "nanny state" bullshit over the impending banning of trans fats by the FDA (a big government agency) like they did when the NYC mayor pushed to ban the big big soda drinks. People are crazy and times are strange. I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range.

This would be perfect for the remake of "Blazing (GOP) Saddles." I can hardly wait. I do request a scene of Ted Cruz being kicked in the head by a horse, preferably while he's wearing one of those really tall Texas type hats...like Hoss Cartwright used to wear, except about a foot taller.rstrong wrote:"Vote to destroy the economy, and no one gets hurt."
