Not to mention the literature that needs changing... "O of the Flies," "O Jim," "O of the Rings"...

Doesn't sound so snooty to be in the House of O's, though, does it?
And there's Jack O, who once starred in Hawaii Five O. Didn't know they used to call the Hawaii police "Five Lord"

Your English is almost as poor as Roland's. But sorry dumb ass, it's clear you were implying that they changed one word because Jews, Muslims and Atheists would be offended when in fact it was you and a few other whiny Christian tweeters (or is it twits?) who were offended. Why work so hard at being offended over this when the War on Xmas is underway?Mr.B wrote:I didn't "make out like" no such a dunnit....you "made it like" you wanted it to appear "like". Go back and look at my post....Ombudsman wrote: "And somehow you make it out like it was Jews, Muslims and atheists who were offended."
"Mustn't offend the Muslims, Jews, & atheists.....??" Notice the strategically placed question (??) marks?
I was asking a question.....as in why would they leave "Lord" out of the song, unless maybe their intent was not to offend someone,
such as maybe Muslims, Jews, & atheists.
Y'all done went and got your silky step-ins all in a wad over nothing.Lighten up.

Re: The Religion Thread
Look.....let me straighten this out....I didn't get offended by the changing of the words in the song. Somehow, it failed to sink in to all y'all that I was making light of the fact that the words were changed....I threw in the "ethnic" angle as a pun because of the current wailings that America is coddling religious groups, denominations, etc. that do not recognize Jesus or even the Christian religion. That's all. It's over.Vrede wrote: "I get how thin-skinned you are about anything related to Christianity....."
Now..... I don't consider myself thin-skinned over my Christianity; I'm very well used to snide-ness and hatefulness directed towards the notion of God, Satan, or religion in general. It's nothing new, and I'm satisfied with my decision to embrace Christianity and to trust Christ.
What's really rankles me is one calling themselves a Christian while living a life of pure hellishness (Westboro B.C., TV preachers who preach to "send money", claim to heal the sick and crippled, yet live a life of opulent luxury, yaday, yaday, yaday.)
Secondly, it rankles me that non-Christians group all who profess Christ in the same group of those aforementioned just because they are Christians.
That's what thins my skin......

Re: The Religion Thread
The way things are going......they're going to crucify me.
O of this World,
He's your confessor now.
Most people think,
Great O will come from the skies,
Take away everything
And make everybody feel high.
But if you know what life is worth,
You will look for yours on earth:
And now you see the light,
You stand up for your rights. O!
Here's an intersting little tidbit. The original hymn Will the Circle
Be Unbroken? from 1907 doesn't have the word Lord in the chorus.
A.P. Carter of the Carter family added the words for a reworked version
of the song later on. So take your pick.

I've met maybe five people more thin skinned than you. You cry when an adult uses adult language. You cry over the use of the word "holiday". You cry because someone calls you a dumb ass for acting like a dumb ass. Now you're crying because one word in a song was changed. Who you kidding son? Besides yourself?Mr.B wrote: Now..... Re: The Religion Thread
Oh, the ignorance. From Wikipedia:
Had they altered the "Sweet Jesus" from the chorus, I guess it wouldn't have been a spiritual."One Toke Over The Line" was performed on The Lawrence Welk Show, a television program known for its conservative, family-oriented format, by a duo known as "Gail and Dale." At the conclusion of the performance of the song, Welk remarked, without any hint of irony, "There you've heard a modern spiritual by Gail and Dale." This caused Michael Brewer to comment:
"The Vice President of the United States, Spiro Agnew, named us personally as a subversive to American youth, but at exactly the same time Lawrence Welk performed the crazy thing and introduced it as a gospel song. That shows how absurd it really is. Of course, we got more publicity than we could have paid for."
People are crazy and times are strange. I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range.
I used to care, but, things have changed.

"It's a girl my O in a flatbed Ford" just doesn't quite have it.
The guy in Mr.B's vid is right - it is a desecration.

Re: The Religion Thread
But all the people getting pissed about Lord not being in the song
likely don't realize that it doesn't appear in the original hymn, so
their complaints are somewhat uninformed.
I remember reading about Screaming Lord Sutch, but I have never
heard any of his music.

Re: The Religion Thread
Yah, the original didn't have anything about hauling Mama away, either. Reminds me of the musical history of "Wild Side of Life" and "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels." Original song was "The Great Speckled Bird," which was a hymn. I guess Hank Thompson and Kitty Wells didn't want to insult any (insert here) either.Bungalow Bill wrote:But all the people getting pissed about Lord not being in the song
