I don't know about a 2007 dead duck story, but in 2008 it was Boise St. 37 Oregon 32Vrede too wrote:
Another myth is that, mistaking the blue field for a large body of water, birds have flown into the blue turf and to their deaths. Although Broncos coach Chris Petersen claimed to have found a dead duck on the field in 2007, the origin of the duck on the field has never been confirmed.

I considered researching to make the same joke. Great minds . . .
Any color? That seems unfair.... BSU's blue turf has become such a highly visible icon for the Broncos that BSU obtained a U.S. trademark registration for a blue athletics field in November 2009. In 2010, this trademark was extended to any non-green field...

I don't try to 2nd guess the spread - too much research to even pretend that I'm better than Vegas adjusted by thousands of bettors. So, I go with likes and dislikes or, in this case since I have no personal preference, I go with messing with Clemson's strength of schedule. If Auburn wins by 2, that's fine with me.

Maybe it really originated with a transplanted Bostonian - rammah jammah yellowhammah ...Alabama? No, that doesn't work, because the Bostonian would also add an extra "r" on the end of Alabama. Maybe just a literacy thing?Boatrocker wrote:Well, that depends on where in Alabama you come from. Allerbammer can rhyme with yellerhammer.O Really wrote: . . . Not a good week for me, was doing well but collapsed Sat. night. I can reach .500 if GA beats the spread vs. SC today.Vrede too wrote:... Go #16 Arkansas, knock #1 Alabama out of the playoffs. Nope, not even the spread.
Go #6 Houston, sink Navy. Bye-bye top 10.
Go Dook, bomb Army. Yep.
Go #9 Tennessee, knock #8 Texas A&M out of the top 10. Nope, a spread push.
Go Texas, knock #20 Oklahoma out of the top 25. Nope, but did beat the spread.
Go #10 Miami (FL), knock #23 Florida St. out of the top 25. Bye-bye top 10.
Go Arizona, knock #24 Utah out of the top 25. Nope.
Go #21 Colorado vs. USC, move on up. Nope, but did beat the spread by 1.
Go #5 (!) Huskies, eat them Ducks... Yes! National Championship? Michigan or Ohio St. will knock the other one out of the playoffs.

Heartbreaker for the U. Lost to FSU 7 times in a row, then lost again at home on a missed extra point by a guy who'd hit 72 without a miss. Arrrrrgh! Reminded me, though, of when FSU lost a couple of big ones with the infamous "wide left" collapses.

Go #7 Louisville vs. Dook. 35.5 point spread, .
Go Maryland vs. Minnesota, not that it matters now.
Go #9 Tennessee vs. #1 Alabama, 13 point spread.
Go #8 Wisconsin vs. #2 Ohio St., 10.5 point spread.
It would be sweet to see both #1 & #2 fall, thus making the playoffs wide open.

Quinton Groves - Auburn career sack leader and Mr excitable in the rammer jammer video I posted last week died today. You have to love players like him.billy.pilgrim wrote:O Really wrote:Well the start is not so great, but the ending is pretty rousing.
here/hear some rousing
we changed up the words of the bammer - we beat you song - a little

to teams other than bammer, we sing (after a win)

"Players who played with Groves at Auburn and in the NFL have written on social media this morning that Groves died suddenly. Luke Easterling of USA Today reported that Groves died of a heart attack. Medical tests at the 2008 NFL Scouting Combine revealed that Groves had Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, which causes rapid heartbeats, and he had what was described as a minor heart surgery between the Combine and the draft."

Yeah, I'm not gonna be offering side bets, no fun when it's over beating a 20 or 30 point spread.
Clemson & OSU - 2 OT wins away from completely mucking up the playoffs, drat.
One of our pool has won 4 times in 7 weeks (twice shared)! Ben is nearly a Ben (Franklin) in the black with half the season still to go.
